Eagle Claw Addictive Fishing Mogan Spinning Combo 3.5 5 17 17
Change Line at Purchase Got this on Holliday special so can't complain to much. Great rod, cast pretty far and quite sensitive. The real however comes spooled with cheap braid with mono backing that's not even tied on. You will spend more time dealing with wind knots and after you cut a few yards you are left with nothing more than a cheap braid leader. Do yourself a Huge favor and change the line before you use this combo. January 19, 2015
w&m combo. I own several flats blue rods and decided to try the mogan combo. Everything is holding up great. Meets my expectations for the price. Down fall is the FINS braid that comes spooled on the reel. Never had so many wind knots in my life. I fish with power pro so im not new to braid. Another problem is the braid is not connected to the monofilament underneath. Its separated by plastic. I found this out when i hooked a descent striper that took all the FINS off the reel and never stopped. Other then the Trash FINS braid, i recommend this Combo. January 14, 2015
NEVER CEASES TO AMAZE ME THE THINGS PEOPLE COMPLAIN ABOUT. THIS IS A GREAT ROD PERIOD...YEA THE REEL IS A LITTLE CHEAP BUT SO WHAT...FOR THE PRICE WHAT DO YOU WANT...THE REEL WILL WORK FINE IF YOU KEEP IT CLEAN AND SALT FREE...I HAVE CHARTER FISHED AND COMMERCIAL FISHED FOR THE MAJORITY OF MY LIFE, AND AM AN AVID BAY FISHERMAN HERE IN THE PANHANDLE SO I FEEL I KNOW WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT. AS FOR THE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE MONO....FIRST OF ALL YOU NEVER EVER SPOOL YOUR SPINNER WITH ONLY BRAIDED LINE. YOU NEED MONO BACKING....YOUR NOT GONNA CAST 300 YARDS . I DONT CARE HOW GOOD YOU THINK YOU ARE. THIS IS A GREAT DEAL SO DONT LISTEN TO THE BAD REVIEWS, IF YOUR FISHING SALT WATER YOUR GONNA GO THROUGH REELS ANYWAY. BUT THE ROD IS WHAT GONNA LAST AND THIS ONE IS LITE AND STONG...ENJOY December 24, 2014
Super Nice Rod!!! I can't give an honest review on the reel, because I saw it in the store and read several reviews that brought me to the conclusion that the reel was cheep and no good for someone who fishes almost every day. However, the rod, on the other hand, seemed really good and received good reviews. Therefore, when I saw it on sale for $50, I had to grab it!!! I have already caught several fish on this rod and it is NICE!!! Great sensitivity, light weight, smooth guides and it looks better than the higher end rods by Wright and McGill, in my opinion. The best thing for me is that it's a two piece, therefore easier to deal with in my car. I don't use a boat, so I only fish from the shore. I love this rod!!! I've put the reel on an ice rod for sheepshead fishing, but have not had a chance to test it. December 20, 2014
Awesome rod, terrible reel, worse reel warranty I got this combo as a present and immediately loved it, as I found the cost cutting mono hidden under the main line I was a little disappointed, when the reel broke after only 9 months casual use I was really disappointed, and now after reading the warranty from Wright and McGill I am so disappointed I took time to write this and promise never to trust Dicks again. The rod is awesome, to bad they so cheaped out on the reel. December 1, 2014
great rod...reel is soso The rod is amazing. Super light and great response... definitely recommend changing out the reel September 23, 2014
Eagle Claw combo The rod is very responsive and makes those LONG casts needed on very shallow flats. However the reel's drag freezes up at times and stutters all the time. Have lost a big redfish already because of this. I thought the combo was reasonably priced but since the reel is worthless, the rod of of this quality becomes way over priced. It is interesting to note that your blurb describing this combo on this page touts the virtues of the rod but is totally silent regarding the reel! July 29, 2014
Great for intermediate use Purchased this combo for my wife, she's very happy with the feel and weight. Much stiffer action than her pervious pole. Great intermediate pole. July 8, 2014
rust Good sensitive on rod, smooth reel but don't think it will hold up. Screws are already rusty and then line they put on it was terrible. Wind knots ate most of it up and there was.mono his under it. Mogan got over on me with this one May 25, 2014
DO NOT BUY, ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE!!! First of all I would like to say that I am on the water probably 4 days out of the week, and fish most of the time poling the flats on a kayak, although I fish out of boats as well. I take great care of my equipment and always rinse down with freshwater after each use, and oil when needed. So I really only bought this because it was on sale for 20$ off reg. price and I already owned the gen II standard flats blue rods in the casting model as well as spinning, which I love. Keep in mind this is the combo and not the same quality as the regular flats blue rods, but as it was still made by Eagle Claw, I didn't think it could be too bad. I probably used this rod for a month and caught maybe 100 fish on it, although I intended to use this as a backup which I kept inside the kayak in case of a failure on another setup. After about two weeks of fishing, the reel locked up. I opened and serviced the reel with reel lube, and noticed that nothing was sealed at all including the bearings which were already rusting. Used the reel for another two weeks, and once again the reel locked up. I ended up taking it back and just buying another gen II flats blue rod, and threw on a quantum pts smoke which is awesome. The rod itself is fairly good for the money, with decent action, but for the same price you might as well not waste your time with this combo and just buy the standard gen. II rod and add a better reel. The finns wind tamer which came on the reel is really only about 50 yds, with mono backing, which is false advertisement, and it doesn't live up to its name because it collects wind knots constantly. If you intend to fish only a couple of days out of the year this would be fine, as I managed to bring in multiple 30+ in. redfish, but if you use it any more than that, it will not last long.
