Rated 4 out of 5 by jebo Great for intermediate use Purchased this combo for my wife, she's very happy with the feel and weight. Much stiffer action than her pervious pole. Great intermediate pole. July 8, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by cmar rust Good sensitive on rod, smooth reel but don't think it will hold up. Screws are already rusty and then line they put on it was terrible. Wind knots ate most of it up and there was.mono his under it. Mogan got over on me with this one May 25, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by FSUNOLE DO NOT BUY, ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE!!! First of all I would like to say that I am on the water probably 4 days out of the week, and fish most of the time poling the flats on a kayak, although I fish out of boats as well. I take great care of my equipment and always rinse down with freshwater after each use, and oil when needed. So I really only bought this because it was on sale for 20$ off reg. price and I already owned the gen II standard flats blue rods in the casting model as well as spinning, which I love. Keep in mind this is the combo and not the same quality as the regular flats blue rods, but as it was still made by Eagle Claw, I didn't think it could be too bad. I probably used this rod for a month and caught maybe 100 fish on it, although I intended to use this as a backup which I kept inside the kayak in case of a failure on another setup. After about two weeks of fishing, the reel locked up. I opened and serviced the reel with reel lube, and noticed that nothing was sealed at all including the bearings which were already rusting. Used the reel for another two weeks, and once again the reel locked up. I ended up taking it back and just buying another gen II flats blue rod, and threw on a quantum pts smoke which is awesome. The rod itself is fairly good for the money, with decent action, but for the same price you might as well not waste your time with this combo and just buy the standard gen. II rod and add a better reel. The finns wind tamer which came on the reel is really only about 50 yds, with mono backing, which is false advertisement, and it doesn't live up to its name because it collects wind knots constantly. If you intend to fish only a couple of days out of the year this would be fine, as I managed to bring in multiple 30+ in. redfish, but if you use it any more than that, it will not last long. Rated 3 out of 5 by Bassfishing24/7 Great but misleading! I baught the combo along with other braided string just in case the line on there was bad, so I threw my first cast and I got a wind knot, second third and fourth cast, a wind knot. So I go home to take off the string and I get to about 50 yards of taking off the orange threaded and what do I find underneath? MONO!!! I was furious.. They don't say anywhere in the description that there is mono in te rod... But whatever, I put on the new line and it's awesome! I got spider wire. The rod is so light that you feel the little bites and set the hook with ease, but is so strong it can hold up to pretty powerful fish! February 12, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Palatka69 Great Rod I really like this rod because of the sensitivity. I first used it with a guide who had one down in Port Charlotte. I've got 4 or 5 Ugly Sticks which are pretty versatile but I could actually feel the bait (minhaden) pulling against the tip when fishing mangroves with a cork. I have the 6' 9" spinning rod and would recommend it to anyone who does a lot of flats fishing. I also like mono on it better than braid. It seems to spool a lot smoother. Good rod for the price. Rated 4 out of 5 by PARTYBRETT Great Combo This combo is great, not excellent, but because of the value factor for what you get it is great. Pros Reasonable price great rod, descent reel. Cons The reel is not top quality, drag is so so, also the prestrung reel with braid is way short of how much braid most will want, it is more mono with already with built in memory loops. after the first cast I noticed the mono backing was already more than half the line and the cast had reached the backing. Rated 4 out of 5 by SeaFox Fix it This is a great little rod. The function and look are outstanding, except for one thing, the hook keeper is garbage. The keeper sticks out like a sore thumb and because it is rubber, it will eventually break down. After it is gone, you are forced to use either the cork or the eyelet to store your hook (neither is a good choice). January 14, 2013
