Rated 4 out of 5 by Awesome purchase..... This was an awesome purchase. The tent was not hard to put up and the directions were easy to follow. It was my first camping trip and I assembled the tent with my 6 year old in about 20 min. I only had one problem......the pole holding the rain flap kept falling down. The rain came the first night we were in camp and every time we unzipped the tent to go use the rest room or cook something to eat, all of the water fell into the tent when the pole fell down. :( October 22, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by So Far So Good I just picked up my quest 8x14 dome tent last night, and set it up today in the yard, so this is a first impressions review, which I will either add onto later, or simply follow up with a second review after using it in the field. Set-up- The initial setup is a breeze, until I got to the rainfly. I could get the basic tent up in 5 minutes. But working alone on a breezy day, I was very challenged getting the rainfly over the tent. However, this is not a fault of the tent, I'm sure it will be the same with most 6' tall large dome style tents. I think if there were a really strong wind, it might be near impossible to get the fly up by oneself. However, I just came up with an idea. Perhaps if I were to attach two of the snap straps at the windward end of the tent first, and then work downwind, it might be easier to get the fly in position. I do know that I would attempt to fasten the 4 snap straps first, after getting the fly over the tent, next time I put it up, then the attach the velcro pole straps, then the plastic hooks. So far I'm pleased with the tent, and since several reviewers said the floor to wall seams leaked, I decided to be pro-active and seal all the seams with some Coleman seam sealer. The wall to floor seam I triple sealed, so if we get a flood, I will pull up stakes and convert to a tent-boat, and float away. lol The Bad: As so many others have already pointed out, the door zipper is a terrible design, and even with 2 hands, it's quite easy to catch the flap in the zipper. Also, the lack of ground level windows for ventilation and the weird window shutters that require one to go outside to close them if it starts raining, and the fact that there is no way to tie them open in the first place, represent a serious design flaw. I deduct 1 star for that. I would deduct 2 stars for the windows and door zipper, but considering the overall low price of this tent, I'll only deduct one star. The footprint of this tent is not a true 14x8 either. It's a 6x8 square in the center, where you enter, then the two ends of the tent taper down to 6' at either end. However, it appears to be plenty large enough for me and my date to put in a queen size air bed, 2 chairs and our luggage, so that's not a major deal breaker for me. All in all, I'm very satisfied so far. More will be revealed after my first trip to the Keys. October 13, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great! We purchased this tent for a 2 night camping trip. It was our first time camping so we didn't want to spend a lot of $ on a tent. It was very easy to set up, especially since we didn't have any experience. The tent was great for the money but it would definitely be too tight for 8 people. I think 4 people max! August 28, 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by not good this product was ship to us and used for a camping trip, which I just returned from. The tent is not easy to set up, it does take two people set up and will not stand on its own while placing other poles. after set up the tent had a hole in it and leeks, were is the quality control for this product, the value is not there, it clams to be better then other tent's it's not, do not buy this product you will be sorry you did. Rated 4 out of 5 by good product This is a very nice and large tent for the price. I would recommend this product to other people looking for a tent August 15, 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by Tent This was the worst tent ever it leaked water at the seams and ruined our whole camping trip. Everything inside our tent was soaked it leaked at the seams. August 7, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Good tent, great price This tent was for sale for 1/2 off at our local store. My family of 4 easily fits into the tent with room to spare. We took it out back to test it out - easy set up, good materials. Would highly recommend picking one of these up for warm to cool weather camping with the family. Not too heavy, either! Rated 1 out of 5 by Worst Tent Ever! Worst tent ever in so many ways... First, the height: I am 5'5" and my head was touching the roof. The fly may stand over 6 feet tall, but the mesh roof of the tent sags badly no matter how well you stake the tent down, causing me to have to duck even at the highest point in the tent. The front door is poorly designed and requires two hands to zip and unzip; there are spots where the zipper is pulled too tightly (again, this happens no matter how well you stake the tent), and other points where there is no pulling at all, causing the nearby fabric to get pulled into the zipper. The window design is ridiculous. In order to open the side windows to get cross ventilation, you have to go outside to unzip the fly - there are no internal zippers to open windows (other than the one on the door). Ridiculous. You cannot use this tent unless you stake it down, as it will collapse. We occasionally camp in a mountainous campground where tents are placed on a wooden platform -- how do you stake a tent to a wooden platform? You can't, which means we cannot use this tent to go there unless we rig up some straps of some kind. Lastly, this tent is not at all waterproof. It may survive a light drizzle, but any decent rain will find it's way into the tent, particularly near the door. And this may seem silly, but the red color, although lovely, is highly annoying at 5 am when the sun starts shining brightly. The color seems to amplify the sun. Go for a beige, bland color if you like to sleep til 7 as my kids do. Some good points: easy to set up, roomy, nice pockets to hold important items off the floor. But none of these make it worth the money. August 5, 2013
