Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 28 reviewers.
Rated 4 out of 5 by Not bad for a first backpacking tent Purchased for our daughter for her 13th birthday. We have backpacked all of her life and she was looking for some independence from her 3 younger siblings (with whom she has been sharing a tent) Most of our gear is upper-range and we began by looking at the usual suspects but ultimately could not justify the $300+ expense for a first tent. Pro: Lightweight and small. She can fit this tent inside her pack and it does not tax her much. Sets up easily (as long as you can stake) Seems dry at night (though yet to test a storm). Mesh is tight and effective against bugs. Neg: No vestibule makes pack storage difficult if actually camping alone. NO ROOM FOR DOG! Though it claims to be 8' long and I have not measured, my nearly 6 ft husband felt it would be too cramped for him. It does not seem to be this long. It is essentially a step above a bivy sack. Good for what it is, but not really worth trying to push for more. It is a good deal if this is really what you are looking for. March 10, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good Tent for the Price. This is a good tent for the price. 2 of my friends have it as well and its worked out great for all of us. The seams are taped on the inside of the rain fly and I've had it in rain and it performed quite well. There is condensation, but all bivy tents this style will have some condensation one way or another....just not much space to provide optimal airflow. In my opinion, it's pretty roomy for a bivy tent, I can fit my pack in it with me, but I'm short: 5'7" it might be tough for normal sized/taller folks to fit their pack in as well. I've also tucked my pack under the rainfly on the outside (side where your feet are) and that worked out well during rain...pack was dry. Susan62 below is correct about the stated weights. Mine weighs 3lbs, 7oz with the bag and all stakes on my postal scale. You can get it down to 3lbs, 5 oz with some lighter titanium stakes. Leave the stuff sacks for the tent, poles and stakes at home and replace with rubber bands and you can subtract another 3.5 ounces. If you were going somewhere where you didnt expect alot of wind, you could remove the guylines and shave another 0.5 ounce or so. So with those mods, you could get it down to 3lbs. 1oz...which puts it on the border of being a lightweight tent. I'm not sure exactly what the 2lbs, 12oz. carry weight refers to, but I'm pretty sure that's similar to most manufactures "trail weight" and trial weight is usually the tent, fly and poles (no stakes, no stuff sack). My tent's trail weight came out to 2lbs, 12.3 overall my tent is pretty accurate with the listed weights. I think they should just change carry weight to say trail weight in the description so its perfectly clear to everyone and to be consistent with other manufactures, but maybe carry weight is a term I'm just not familiar with? Overall, I think this is a great tent and has excellent value for the price. If you're looking for a sub 3 lbs tent, you'll have to pay alot more as the materials are simply more expensive. I have a few other lightweight tents (sub 3lbs-2.5lbs) but those cost me $150-$200+, so for the price this is a great deal. February 27, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great tent great price Excellent product for the price. Purchased this tent based on price and I am completely satisfied. It's lightweight and very easy to set up! February 10, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by Misrepresented weight! Bought this tent for backpacking based on Dick's advertised carry weight of 2 lbs., 12 oz. NOT SO! Actual weight according to digital scale is 3 lbs. 8 oz! Way over misrepresented! This tent weighs nearly the same as my Kelty 2-man tent. December 3, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Love this tent. It assembles quickly and easily, is incredibly small packed up - not to mention light, provides plenty of room for 1 person (and probably 2 if you're fine snuggling all night), and looks to be well made with high quality components. It also looks super slick. November 19, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great for camping I bought this tent for my son who is in Boy Scouts. Other scouts have similar tents with the opening at the top. They keep trying to trade him tents. He has used it on 8-10 camp outs now, temp down to 30's, heavy rain storms, heavy winds (normal Oklahoma weather for us), sunny etc... He has never had any issues staying warm or dry. He loves it and it fits perfect on his backpack. It is very light weight. He is 5'5' and has plenty of growing room. Currently he can keep his backpack inside with him, but if he grows anymore, it will have to stay outside. That is the only negative I can find with it. Would recommend getting better steaks, but that's common with most tents. It goes up easy and packs out fast. November 5, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by Condensation ruined it I was really excited about this tent after doing a lot of review reading and researching other tents. I usually buy from REI with a membership but decided to risk it and was sorely disappointed. I woke up in the morning with so much condensation that I was actually damp. This won't work for cold temperature camping! November 4, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Value I bought this for my teenage son to use for Boy Scouts and hiking the AT. Caught it on sale and could not be more pleased. I am 6'2 and it is a tad short for me but it is perfect for anyone shorter. The side entry is a plus and it is really light weight. I will let you know if it doesn't stand up to the abuse from the teenager but from the looks of it I am not expecting any problems. If you prefer a vestibule - this tent does not have one. The Boys always hang their bags on a tree to keep them off the ground and prevent rips to the tent so that was not an issue for him. This is my first KOPPEN Purchase and I am extremely pleased with what I have seen so far. I personally use the Marmot Aspen 2P that is carried by Dick's for my tent and appreciate the extra space and vestibule. October 30, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by glightweight a plus very nice 3 season backpacking tent, do not recommend it for winter. lightweight, waterproof and easy to set up. I'm 6'1" and plenty long, but as most bivey tents your gear stays outside. October 26, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by light pack tent very light weight and pretty compact. Had a slight issue with condensation due to a rapid temperature drop overnight but still stayed dry. Better than a Bivy. REQUIRES STAKES- the ones that came were sturdy aluminum but if you plan on being in rocky terrain or hiking up a mountain think again because the stakes are required to hold the tent up not just hold the fly out.
