Rated 5 out of 5 by Bren Can't wait Haven't taken it on the water yet but am sure I'll be happy. Perhaps my only gripe was that with tax it came to $530 something. At cabelas, they have the old town angler 10 venom on sale and shipped to my house it would have been $10-20 cheaper. Oh well, I could have found a 10% off coupon somewhere but I was too impatient. Still can't wait to get this in the water and have some fun. Bought a paddle that was 230 centimetres long due to me being 6'1" and the trip 10 being slightly wider than average. I plan to mainly use on Lakes. Stoked about the kayak! September 19, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by DanP Great value as a starter Rec Kayak My wife and I were new to kayaking and we have done 16 trips on flat water lakes and slow moving rivers. For the money these are great casual kayaks. Pluses huge cockpit, with two cupholders. We put a soft cooler behind the the seat. The dry hatch has kept everything dry so far but is a little fussy, not a great as I would have like to see. Our longest trip was 8 hrs on the water 6.5 moving time and 14.88 miles my behind was killing me. The seat is not great for long trips. Overall for a big box store sit in kayak for the money I can not say enough nice things about it and do not regret our purchase as our first kayak. We will be selling it soon to replace them with 14 ft Wilderness system kayak Pungo 140. If your casual kayak and want a solid rec kayak this is for you, you will not regret it. If you getting more serious then I recommend spend about twice the price and going with a wilderness systems Pungo 100, 120 or 140. August 29, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by JustEmily Excellent Sit in Kayak If you enjoy a sit in kayak, you will love the quality, strength and room inside this kayak. It's super light, easy to handle and just well made. Great price at $499. My son who is 16 bought this to add modifications such as a trolling motor , battery & depth finder. I even added led lights! This was a super fun project and this boat made it very easy. This is a trusted name, we have taken here out in lake and even the Brandwine River. You can't go wrong with this boat! August 22, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by bdo23 great kayak...couple minor flaws great kayak! I'm glad I got it! it's stable, has 2 rod holders, has a cup holder, comfortable seating, plenty of leg room to store a tackle box, has a spot that holds your paddle with a bungie to prevent from losing it, happy to have this to go out fishing in! The only problems I had were minor but easy to fix. 1. a metal piece that holds the lines separate on the anchor system scratches your arm when rowing. I simply filed it down. 2. the anchor that came with it was poorly assembled. I lost it when it was deployed. the pin had fallen out and all I had left was the ring. I had to buy a new anchor because I couldn't find the other one. I suggest tightening the pin or replace it with a screw and a lock nut. August 11, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by fishon Perfect! This is my first kayak purchase and bought two of these. I have been out twice so far and am thrilled how easy they are to load/unload in the back of my truck without having to buy an expensive carrier(s). The seats are comfortable and even though the kayaks are only 10 feet long they are very stable. I also bought them because they are made in the USA!!! August 10, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Buckibbq Great Kayak for Big Guys I wasn't looking to spend as much on a Kayak, but after having looked over the various brands I knew that this model was the right choice. I'm a big guy at about 6', 290 and 51. I had never been in a kayak before. I launched this one last week and it performed very well. I paddled a little over two miles and it seems to track pretty well. There is plenty of room for fishing tackle and rods. The hatch was perfectly watertight for me on the first outing. I see no reason why it would leak if you have it sealed properly. The only trouble I had with the first experience was getting out of the sitting position once landed. I'm going to add a couple of roped handles toward the front of the kayak to grab onto to pull myself upright. I would highly recommend this kayak! July 22, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by GrumpyOldePhartte Look out bass! I've just spent my first three hours in this yak and am directing my comments to folks like myself. I am 67, 5'9" tall and I weigh 195. I purchased this yak after going through every review I could find online, comparing it with others in the same price range, and making a pain in the butt of myself at DSG in Pittsfield, MA. BRAVO ZULU to Joe and Carl who suffered my incessant questions with patience and solid advice!! So - why do I love the Trip 10? First, at my age,I was concerned about loading a kayak onto the top of my SUV. I loaded the Trip 10, drove to a local lake, offloaded it, carried it 50 yards to the lake's edge, paddled for three hours, and repeated the process in reverse with no ill effects - other than sore shoulder muscles from my flailing about as I became familiar with using a paddle. Second, although I originally wanted an SOT for ease of entry, I found I could get in and out of the Trip 10 because of the large cockpit and stability of the craft. I managed to get in and out without going for a swim. Finally although there was some wind-induced chop and a few rowdy power boat wakes, I felt safe and comfortable whether heading into or taking the waves on my beam. I admit I was a little nervous but that feeling quickly dissipated as the Trip 10 handled it all with great aplomb. In summary, if you are concerned with kayak weight, stability, and quality then give the Trip 10 serious consideration. As a newbie to kayaking, I highly recommend both the Trip 10 and the staff at DSG! One note: I will not speak to the tracking and speed since I have no reference for comparison, I will just say it got me where I wanted to go with no surprises. Will get me to my fishing spots and be a lot of fun to boot! July 21, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Dmac111 Great Kayak I spent a little more than I wanted, but it's been well worth it. Easy to load and unload off my Grand Cherokee. Rod holders are deep (I wish the cup holder up front was a little deeper) and I have plenty of leg room for my 6'3" frame. I love the look of this kayak and chose the red/black model. Plenty of compliments!!! July 18, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Newbie1269 Customer Service We purchased this kayak on line for in-store pick-up. It is delivered wrapped in shipping plastic. So after we transported it home and even after the first time in the water we noticed the wear plate was bent and missing a screw. I called Dicks and was advised to take a photo and talk to management since we are a good distance away. Management was quick to offer a discount for the trouble and suggested I contact the manufacturer. Old Town was quick to respond and mail out the wear plate and new screws. Great customer service from both. The kayak is roomy inside, sleek and awesome looking outside. Very steady in the water. July 14, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Stcroixfallsladybassfisher Awesome!!!!! As a newly single lady who loves to bass fish I wanted something light and stable. This is both. I bought this a couple weeks ago and have had it out several times. The cockpit has lots of room to put my tackle bag in front of me and even fits my 65 lb grandson when he wants to go for a ride. It's easy and stable to cast out of and I have already caught a lot of bass out of it. I can easily load and carry it. So far I am having a blast with it. July 11, 2015
