Rated 5 out of 5 by Edman Great yak at twice the price Got 2 of these at Dick's & have taken them down level 1 & 2 whitewater on nearby creek and river, and also good on lake. They are short enough to strap vertically on a tow-hitch scooter carrier on the back of my Roadtrek RV van w/o having a trailer. They move fairly easily thru the water & turn on a dime. They are stable enough that you can get thru 2-3 ft high whitewater w/o getting rolled MOST of the time. Even when you get thrown, it's easy to hang on until you get to quiet water again. They are small enough that you can get into little nooks and crannies along the way downstream. We use long (240 cm) paddles because the yaks are 29 inches wide. They are relatively easy to handle, since they are only 32 lbs. You can find us down in the Keys when it gets TOO cold here in Alabama. September 9, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Scubadu Read Before You Buy We bought two of these today and took them out within the Gulf bay in Florida. Between the online discounts we paid $169.00 plus tax per. I've been in quite a few different types of Kayaks so I wanted to give you a heads up on this one. This Kayak is shorter in length than most other kayaks which was a concern of mine. The result is a little squirrely similar to driving a Porsche than a normal car which actually made it allot easier to turn but going straight was a little frustrating at first. We bought the 240cm paddles that were recommended from another review I read here, which helped allot. Stability seemed a little hard at first, however after about an hour it felt more stable. The seats are nice looking but you will want to get a life vest cushions to sit on. I am 5' 7" tall and there was still another notch my foot couldn't reach which was good for someone with longer legs. It weighs only 35 pounds which is nice. The back is interesting as it looks like one could put a small electric motor on it somehow but I am not sure. The sealed compartment is also a nice feature for keys etc. The cup holder came in handy and was in a good place. I would recommend this Kayak for lakes or gentle rivers. Having side handles included would have been nice as once the Kayak is wet and removing from the water was a little annoying. Paddling it was no harder or easier than a normal Kayak. It felt more compact but still was fun. Everyone that saw it loved the look and price. I don't think I would be happy if I paid 250.00 for it though. I give this Kayak a 3.5 but not a 4 star rating. If you get it Remember these prices for accessories you will need: Life jacket 29.95 or more, Paddle 59.95 or more, Whistle 3.00. It is very important to get the lightest paddle possible when Kayaking. All in all this is a good Kayak for a Women or Child and somewhat for a Man. If an electric motor will fit on it I will be jazzed! August 30, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Dwg7123 Great Value in a Small Kayak Bought 2 from Dick's in Daphne, AL for our beach condo in Perdido Key, FL. Online ordering was easy and with the current Dick's online ordering discount they were the best deal around. Dick's staff was very helpful when picking them up. One was a display unit and we found out later that the drain plug was missing. Called Dick's and they put a plug in the mail to us (duct tape worked fine in the mean time). Also bought additional plugs on line for $1.75ea. in case we loose one. I chose an 8? length so they would fit in a storage closet with 9? ceilings. Our condo is on the 14th floor so also have to negotiate getting in and out of the elevator. They are not heavy but awkward to carry (especially with a 7? closet door). I will be getting a couple of carry straps. My wife and I have only used them a couple of times but found them to be stable and easy to paddle (yes, the short length means they turn on every stroke but that?s easy to manage). I have found that a gentle stroke moves you forward at about 70% of the speed you can achieve with your strongest paddling, so no point in tiring yourself out. Be sure to adjust the seat backrest to support you. I paddled when it was rough (relatively speaking for the Gulf of Mexico) and you do need to keep heading into the waves or the roll gets significant and you risk turning over (but isn?t that half the fun with a sit-on-top kayak). You can surf a little coming in with a wave but I?m about 200lbs and the center of gravity is a bit too far forward so the bow goes down. Bungee straps on the stern holds the paddle nicely when not using it. I can definitely recommend these as great value for the money and lots of fun at the beach.. August 19, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Lil Shortie Perfect kayak for not only beginners, but for those with disabilities! I have limited balance for a 5'3" woman with many physical disabilies and limitations. Though I wish it had handles on the sides, it's still a great little kayak. I can get in and out of it fairly easily. It is very stable and easy for my to keep my balance on the water. I can paddle down stream, or up stream in calm waters, with ease. I highly recommend this product to anyone. Whether your a beginner of any age, or someone like me with disabilities who is looking for a great kayak that offers both stability and performance. August 3, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by kathleenL love it! the only reason i didn't give this 5 starts is because there really isn't any where for me to tie my son's kayak to this so i can tow him. but it is very stable and my 8 year old and I can go for a quick kayak ride together on this, and he can stand up and jump off and climb back on without much difficulty. Rated 4 out of 5 by beginnerkayakforfun Easy and fun I bought this a little over a year ago because I loved canoeing with my dad as a kid, but wanted an option for lake boating that I could do solo. I'm not strong enough to lift much over my head so I wanted something that didn't require getting it on top of the car (5'4" woman). This kayak is short enough that I can easily slide it into my Kia Sorento with the back seats folded down. I have used it only in flat lake conditions, I enjoy just paddling around and exploring different parts of the lake. My favorite part is that the boat is stable enough that I've been able to jump out in open water and swim around a little to cool off, and then climb back on it. I won't say I can climb back on it gracefully, but I can do it. I do wish there were handles, but going from the car to to boat slip where I usually put in is not bad. I hoist the thing up on my hip and hold on through the scupper hole. June 27, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by K2296 Impressive little kayak I purchased this kayak as practically an impulse buy to have something fun to do at the beach. I really didn't do any research and I had some tax return money burning a hole in my pocket so I picked this kayak up because it could fit inside my jeep with the front seats folded down. I really never imagined I would get as much use of it or have as much fun with it as I have had. I have taken in through fairly rough bays and strong currents and it has always felt completely stable. I was shocked the first time taking it out at how it almost felt impossible to tip. Steering it, I am guessing because it is so short, is a breeze. It probably isn't as fast or efficient as a longer/narrower kayak, but I have done things in this that more experienced kayakers told me you needed a longer kayak for. The size makes it incredibly maneuverable and that makes it a lot more fun. It just requires a bit stronger of a paddler to push through currents due to the width/short length. You can probably get a little higher quality plastic and superior design in a similar sized Ocean Kayak brand, but you'll pay for it as well. Now that I have more experience, I wish to move onto something like an OK Scrambler 11, but truth be told if it weren't for the price of this kayak, I probably never would have bought one and found how fun ocean kayaking can be. This was probably one of the most fu/most 'worth it' products I have purchased in years. May 20, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Turkeyleg My First Kayak So far, me and my son have taken our Pelican Kayaks out in the water ways and the ocean in rough seas. These kayaks handle really well and are the perfect size for transporting by vehicle and carrying down the beach. Great product and the sales people at Dicks in Myrtle Beach are the best. Rated 5 out of 5 by TexasV70R Great Kayak.... Light Kayack, wide and stable. Comfortable seat, easy to launch. Suggestion: the width of the kayak needs longer paddles. I am 5'2 and got the correct size for my stature but got soaked from the paddles, Get longer paddles with this kayak. April 13, 2014
