Spend the money on something better. Really nice looking and feeling combo - almost went back to get a second one before using. I installed 4 lb. test on mine and took it out fishing for crappies and bass. Was casting a small Rapala minnow and on about the 6th cast, the rod snapped in half about 6" above the connecting joint. For the few casts I made it reeled smoothly but overall really didn't cast that well. Dicks took it back for a full refund - no problems. April 30, 2013
Abu Garcia Cherrywood HD I bought this pole to go kayak fishing. At 5'6", it moves easily in my 10' kayak. I haven't had any problems at all out of the pole or the reel. It normally sales for $40, but there is a $10 rebate. For $30, it's a good price. While I haven't caught any big ones, I have gotten hung up quite a bit and the med-light action pole has been very forgiving and flexible when I try to free up the lure. One thing I noticed when crappie fishing with this pole is that you only need a slight wrist flick to set the hook. I would reccomend it to anyone who needs a pole for pole for travel, camping, or kayak fishing. If I were trying to catch huge catfish, I may go with something else. April 19, 2013

Expectations Met I have two young children. Therefore, I wanted a rod/reel that wasn't too expensive in the event of a "toddler's helping hand," but also something I could use for years to come. I happened to have a $10 coupon to Dick's so this purchase ended up being under $40. I absolutely love both the rod and reel. Not only does it cast smoothly, it retrieves just as easily. With some reels, I find you really have to crank down on the handle to get the bail to set, but that's not the case with this reel. There is a not a single noise from the bearings, just smooth & quiet. As for the rod, I chose a 6ft model. It's very sensitive, with just enough give and flex. Overall, I'd recommend this pole to anyone looking for a few good hours on the water over the weekend. It's a great combo for the price. April 3, 2013
