Rated 5 out of 5 by DT Great for backpacking!
Purchased for backpacking. Battery life is great and is very lite. It's also much brighter then I thought on the bright setting. If you are looking for a durable bright back packing lantern this is the one!

Rated 4 out of 5 by camp more bright little lantern
Used it for a week, lantern was bright enough to see around camp and cook. the dim light mode was perfect in tent, with a handy hanger that hung well from my storage net at the top of my tent. Small didn't take up much space in my pack and added little weight.

I have a ton of flashlights from large to small and headlights to lanterns/area lights. This lantern is one of my favorites. When you combine light output, size, battery life, and features, this little lantern is hard to beat. 123 lumens is good for a lantern of this size. Remember, the lumens are spread around a wide area, so it's not like a 123-lumen flashlight. In other words, don't expect to light up an object 20' away. To me, where this latern really shines #pun intended# is on LOW mode. It is just enough light to ellimunate a tent, a picnic table, or a high traffic area of the house during a power outage, and with a rated 91 hr battery life in low mode, it would last you a week if it had to. By the way, when you remove the reflector and hang it upsidedown from the top of the tent #via the clip on the bottom of the lantern#, it makes a GREAT tent light. Just enough light without making your tent glow like a UFO. The only thing I would change about the lantern is the SOS feature. IMHO it's pretty much useless. Personally, I'd much rather a "MED" setting. Truth is, HI is too bright to put in the center of a table if you're sitting and talking. It will "spot" your vision pretty badly. LOW works, but I think a 40-lumen setting would work great.
--Bottom line: If you are willing to spend $25 on a flashlight, buy one of these lantens. You'll be glad you did.

I bought this lantern thinking it would be good for the kids as it seems real durable. We turned it on in the house after dark and it seemed pretty bright, however when we went outside it just seemed to disipate. For a $30 lantern I expected it to be much brighter. I will return it due to the high price and little light. Maybe if it would have cost $10 for the amount of light I would keep it, but for that much money I expected it to be a bit brighter.
