Customer Reviews:

Rated 3.2 out of 5 by 17 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great reel This reel may be small - but is powerful - just to let you know i have this reel spooled with super pro 10lb braid teamed with a B n M 10 crappie jig rod - was fishing in 20 foot of water for crappie and caught a 14lb Blue cat took about 15 min to finally land the cat but this reel handled it with ease. I will be replacing my other reel with Contender 20 spinning reels February 15, 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by Junk Got the reel opened it getting ready to put line on it wouldn't reel right and then I pulled on the line the line comes right out I looked at it and I would say its defective DO NOT BY THIS REEL!!!!!Spend a few more bucks and buy a better one I'm very dissaponted. Rated 4 out of 5 by Little reel does the job This is the second Shakespeare Contender I have purchased. It is smooth-operatiung, durable and inexpensive - more than adequate for casting for creek bass and jigging for crappie (sac-au-lait as we call them in South Louisiana). November 20, 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by Poor quality Maybe had 50 casts with this reel and it broke while I was on vacation in Minnesota. Very didisappointed. August 23, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by work fair for its price reel was a replacement for a lesser quality reel that had broken but the ulgy stick pole it was on was in good condition and needed a fair reel for my kids May 29, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Reasonable price and works well! I bought this as a replacement. It was a very good price and it seems to be of reasonable quality, I've already caught some fish on it... No fish tale here.. December 3, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by Not good I have broken 2 handles on these reels. These are cheap and all plastic. Buy a quality reel like Penn. November 25, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Smooth It was a smooth reel for the price I would recommend it to a friend September 24, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by This product did not meet expectations This is the third Shakespeare reel I have bought?the other two performed well. This one, however, runs noisy and rough on the retrieve. Some problem in the skirted spool, I guess. In addition there is something about the joint on the bail that grabs the line and causes drag. Oh well, it was inexpensive and I'll replace it with something else. September 23, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Needs to last longer i had the reel for about 3 months and now you can clearly see it is bent out of shape. yea sure i dropped the rod a couple times but a reel should be stronger than this. other than that its a good reel July 13, 2014
