Spalding NBA 54" Glass Portable Basketball Hoop 3.3 5 12 12
Assembly could be easier! Santa has been getting ready for Christmas and glad he started early. This is not a late Christmas Eve assembly. This thing is a bear to assemble! The post assemblely should not be this difficult. This is 2014 not 1970. Instructions are a 6 on a scale of 10. I think product will be good in the long run but getting there could be a lot easier. Great hoop Exactly what I was looking for in a hoop for my children. Able to lower and raise hoop as needed. We love the backboard and rim. You definitely need two capable individuals and patience to get through the instructions and set up. There are a few steps where you have "figure out" and backboard is heavy. Overall, extremely happy with the quality of the basketball hoop. August 21, 2014
Backboard shattered! I purchased this system and had it delivered and installed. My sons were very excited when it was done. But, after the fourth or fifth shot they took, the backboard shattered. I have contacted Spalding and they are going to send out another. Not sure how that will go but, I see many others with the same problem. Not sure how it can be avoided so, purchase with caution...or patience! July 24, 2014
Awesome basketball hoop just have to be carefull with the glass backboard. July 20, 2014
Cheaply made, expensive cost I ordered this product online, first of all it was extremely difficult to assemble and while assembling this horribly made product the glass smashed to pieces because of the pressure of tightening the bolts, as advised in the instructions. You would think being NBA Spaulding brand, you would get a really good product, but unfortunately that was not that case. Over priced and cheaply made. Another disappointment from the NBA. Nightmare!! This product was a nightmare. It was terrible to put together. It took me forever and my husband had to help me at the end. When I finally got to the backboard step when I was screwing it on it shattered! There is supposed to have a foam piece that mine did not have. I called spalding they were out of stock and didn't know when they would be getting more!! I had to submit an email and it took them over two weeks to respond. Thankfully I called Dicks and they shipped me one right away. I was so excited to finally put the backboard on and got the hoop up and went to fill it with water and water came rushing out. Huge crack in the base! For $700 I was not pleased!! Thankfully they sent us the whole hoop so I took the new base out. It was a pain getting the old off and new on. We would definitely pay someone to put it together next time. Spalding customer service was terrible!! June 18, 2014
Great System We have had the hoop for two week and it has been a big hit with our two children (age 7 and 11) as well as the neighborhood children who prefer this hoop over lesser quality systems. They love how easy it is to raise and lower the hoop for dunk contests and different levels of competitive games. I compared to Lifetime alternatives and the quality of the Spalding is noticeably better. The unit is solid and the glass backboard provides a realistic experience. It does not shake when a ball hits the backboard. It looks great in the driveway and the 54" backboard is large enough to be useful but small enough to keep the system light enough to move around as necessary. I purchased the installation option to have the unit built which was well worth the money. The installer who puts several units together weekly endorsed this unit over other brands as one that is significantly better quality. He built it in less than 45 minutes a task I am sure would have taken me several hours at least. We look forward to using this for many years. April 30, 2014
Remember the bolts This is a great basketball hoop, but please REMEMBER TO KEEP THE BOLTS ON THE BLACK FOAM PIECE. The bolts that screw the backboard into the arm are supposed to stay on a black pad type thing. If you forget this step, the backboard WILL break. Guaranteed. It happened to me without even shooting one shot. Please remember this and you will have a great time. April 19, 2014
Very Sensitive Backboard I was assembling the back board and barley tightened the bolts and it cracked all over. Then spalding sent me a replacement. Then I put it back together and a few days lader I dunked on it and it cracked all over a SECOND time. They sent me a second replacement waiting for it to get here January 10, 2014
Not as hard as I thought I'd read some nightmare stories online about assembling these things and not being particularly handy I was worried. It turns out my fears were unfounded. The Spalding 54" wasn't too difficult. My advice to anyone considering buying/assembling one of these: you'll need a second person at some points. The thing is too heavy/unwieldy and simply can't be done solo. My other piece of advice is to take your time. I worked on it a few hours a day over the course of three days. I had a few missteps that had to be corrected but if I had set myself the goal of doing it in 4 or 5 hours, it would have been much more stressful. December 31, 2013
