Rated 4 out of 5 by rate and review of purchase fishin reels Recieved delivery in good time sooner than expected. disappointed that there was no users guide or operating manual. Only item in shipping box was invoice. It would seem that when you spend almost $300.00 for a fishing reel there should also be provided with a sample of recommended lubricating oil and a wrench suitable for maintenance of the reel. got the feeling based on packaging that this was a previous return ( recycled ). Rated 2 out of 5 by Great Look & Feel, but backlashes w/Power Pro I Bought the 300S-hp about a month ago & matched it with a Shimano 7' TMC-X70MH Teramar Inshore Series Baitcasting rod rated for 15-25 lb line and 1/2-1 1/2 oz lures. I spooled it with 30 lb power-pro and a 25 lb fluorocarbon 8' leader spiced seamlessly to the Power Pro. The combo has a great feel and casts really far, smooth retrieve, really great action. However, I have been successfully fishing with baitcasting reels for 30+ years, & am an expert at setting spool tension, but I haven't been able to set it on this reel, which constantly "birds' nests" on me. I fished 5 different times, and was plagued by backlashes. Tonight I was determined to master this reel and I casted with 1/2, 3/4, and 1oz lures off my intercoastal dock, 35 cast each, 105 total casts, trying to find a way to get the spool tension for each weight lure. Results 8, 10, and 14 bird's nests respectively, 1 on the 1 oz lure which required that I cut off about 30 yards of line. The reel is too finicky for me. I don't know if it is a defective spool tension adjustment, or if all of the 300's are like this. I do love the look and feel of this reel, and I love the power handle, but this is no enough to overcome the backlash problem. I'm keeping the rod, as I really love it, but the reel goes back tomorrow. June 28, 2015
