Garmin Approach S2 Golf GPS Watch 4.2 5 13 13
Great for the cuurse Has all the courses I need preloaded. Very easy to use. The only problem is that I need to charge it after each use. Longer battery life is needed. December 6, 2014
Excellent functionality and coverage, flawed recharging connection. Very good coverage and unctionality on the course. However, the plastic connection needed to recharge the device is prone to breaking. If Garmin resolves this problem, my review would be 5 stars! August 15, 2014
Good functionality, but prone to problems As advertised, wide variety of courses and good yardages. Two major problems. First, the plastic device that connects the charger to the watch may break. Another friend with the same S2 experienced the same problem. Moreover, the recharger will not connect properly to the watch, thus making it difficult to recharge. I tried using a rubber band to secure the connection, to no avail. August 1, 2014
Great product, except The watch works great and is easy to use. The only complaint that I have is that the watch does not give the yardage to the front of the green once you are close to the green. It gives only the center and back of the green yardages. I like to know the front yardage for chipping. July 17, 2014
No problems Was the hit of a recent scramble. The course being played had GPS on the carts but received a lot of rain and it was "cart paths only" which made the GPS worthless. Glad I had the S2 on my wrist when we were clear across the fairway from the carts. Distances seem to be "right on". June 11, 2014
Garmin S2 The Garmin S2 is great. It works well and is very helpful on the golf course. The only complaint I have is NOT about the product's the lack of instructions as to how to operate the different functions that are on the watch... The owners manual does not list all the functions nor does it tell you how to access them. Garmin should get input for their owner's manual from people who are not techies...and are not familiar with the product. They need a "human factors" person in their employ...... The unit itself.... I would recommend it for all who golf. The owner's manual said to "charge the battery fully befor the first use". The owners manual does not tell you how long it takes the battery to fully charge or if there is any indication that the battery is fully charged... The first time I was going to use it on the course I pluged the unit in to charge it. After a couple of hours the time appeared on the dial... I assumed it was fully charged but aparently it wasn't since it gave erroneous distance readings after about 12 holes while on the golf course the next day I brouight it back to the store and told the manager. He pushed some buttons and an icon of the battery came up and it said the battery was low. He suggested I try it again on the golf course. I recharged the battery again and this time the icon of the battery came up on the dial when it was chasrging and showed when it was fully charged. The next time I used it it worked perfectly....and has ever since. Like I said... the owner's manual needs to be rewritten to better explain to first time users who are not familiar with golf watches and how they work.. November 25, 2013
Could Be Better If it came with a wall charger and displayed hazards it would be a better buy. $249 is too much to pay for its limited utility. Would be useless without a computer (USB port) to charge it. Garmin later provided a free wall charger, but I had to call and complain to get it. Wish I had bought the S3. September 24, 2013
Luv it! not a techi so I was looking for a watch that did not take a rocket scientist to use. I found it! Luv it! would recommend it highly. July 11, 2013
Garmin GS2 useful golf device The Garmin GS2 is a great device for knowing distances to the pins placement, keeping score, knowing lay-up and dog leg shots is a useful addition from the GS1. I prefer the white font on the outside of the GS1 device over the red font on the outside of the GS2 device but that is only a cosmetic detail that doesn't impact my decision to purchase the device. I like the new ease of the up and down selection arrows and menu options once the course is selected. After I selected a course and then turned the device off to save the battery for a few minutes and later turned the device back on I was please to see it brought up the course I had selected rather than having me start over with the start round menu; great feature. Easy to figure out. Love the fact that it is worn on the wrist and not one that is carried in pocket or hand which make it less likely to loose on the golf course. June 23, 2013
Quick and easy yardages to the green Not as accurate as my SkyCaddie, but more convenient. I got tired of subscribing and downloading, so I bought the S2 with its pre-loaded courses. Based on the USGA sprinkler head yardages, distances on the S2 (front, middle, back) are off by 2 to 5 yards. Lay-up distances seemed suspect. Distances from the tee to significant hazards were missing. It was helpful to have the unit on my wrist on cart-path-only holes because I didn't have to worry with a hand-held unit as well as my clubs. And, with the S2, I am not likely to leave it in the cart. The S2 battery lasted a full 18 holes and then some. The SkyCaddie definitely has more accurate and useful information and is good for an unfamiliar course---if you have the opportunity to get on a computer and download. S2 can't be beat for ease of use. June 22, 2013
