These are a great cheaper alternative to most dumbbell sets. The weights are exact weight amount listed. The bar plus spinner is exactly 3.6 pounds for each dumbbell. You get a total of 37.2 pounds per set. The spinners hold the weights just fine for me. The threads are very large, so I don't see how they can just come loose. Max weight if you buy two sets is 43.6 pounds for 1 dumbbell. The spinners hold 8 of the 5 pound weights with no problem.

These dumbbells are exactly what I was looking for. It allows you to get a great workout in your own home with very little space.

Changing weights between sets is simple and I can see it being quick quick and mindless once you get in a routine.

Take a look at 15lb dumbbells. A pair of those alone will cost what this set does! This set is great for finding what weight you really want to use. Then you can go buy some regular weights if you really want.

And a note about a couple other commenters. The handles are 5lb each, so it is a total of 40lbs in the box. And I will agree with the loose spinner...or whatever you call the thing that holds the weights on. One of mine seems to have a habit of becoming slightly loose. NOT AT ALL falling off, just enough to let the weight slip a bit and make a sound. I just tighten it and move on.

These are ok dumbbells but make sure you check the spinners that hold the weight on. One of mine acts like it is stripped and will not hold the weight on one side, and I almost lost a toe when they all came falling down. Just be sure to check them, the plastic box they come in is tie strapped so make the employee open it for you.

(4) 5 lb plates = 20 lbs
(4) 3 lb plates = 12 lbs
and each bar with collars weighs in at a pound each, so 2 lbs.

34 lbs total. . . how and why is it being touted as a 40 lb weight set?

It will serve my purposes just fine. . .but come on people, doesn't the good Ol' US of A have enough of an image problem without everybody from the White House to the gym looking like nothing but a bunch of DUMBELLS! ?

This set is great. Perfect for that quick workout at home. I have a bench that I picked up for under $50 and use that with them. They are very durable and it's easy to change the weight. If you knock them together too many times then the cap will start to loosen, but it's not anything you have to worry about, you just tighten it right back.

This product is okay but they dont come with enough weight and when you add the desired weight, they feel heavier than the other dumbells with the same desired wieght. Also the thread caps keep on unscrewing themselves whenever i workout with the dumbells.

I am so pleased with the 40-lb dumbbell set that it makes me happy every time I see it. I'd bought a Champion dumbbell set at another store and it had very poor plastic collars that I didn't trust a bit. I returned that and bought this CAP 40-pound set for it's spin-on collars and absolutely love it. The quality is very good and the collars have a rubber ring around the inside to grip the weight plates and provide some extra grip/friction so the collar won't loosen. Everything fits nice and tight so the plates don't rattle or wobble when you lift. I love this set!

This portable dumbbell set is well made and very convenient. The plastic case is pretty flimsy, but all the pieces fit nicely inside and are made of heavy duty cast iron (plates) and chrome (bars and clamps). Screw-on clamps keep plates on tightly. Good for use at home, and very convenient if you want to stay on your workout routine while traveling. Price certainly beats buying individual dumbbells, switching plates during a workout is very easy.
