Rated 1 out of 5 by Sports&Scouts Illegal for use in NFHS and can be tossed by umpires at any level Chrome batting (and catching) helmets are banned by NFHS (National Federation of High School Sports) and can be removed at any level (Little League, Babe Ruth, MVP, Travel, Showcase, etc.) if umpires, like myself, feel they present a potential distraction and possibly safety risk. I have tossed this thing several times this year after nearly being blinded by the sun's rays bouncing off this and into my eyes. It was nearly blinding and I had sunglasses on at the time. Although the helmet itself meets NOCSAE standards umpires in NFHS governed events are called to remove it. It should be pulled from the shelf. I have enclosed the 2014 baseball rules interpretation by NFHS that covers this. (BTW, Situation 21 deals with chrome catchers helmets.# Baseball Rules Interpretations - 2014 SITUATION 22: R1 leads off the inning wearing a highly polished reflective batting helmet. The opposing coach inquires as to the legality of R1 wearing such a helmet as it would be distracting to his pitcher and the infielders. R1 and his coach explain that, a) the helmet meets the current NOCSAE performance standard for batting helmets; b) there is no rule prohibiting such product for use; and c) the player has a right to own and use the helmet when there is no rule preventing such use. RULING: The umpire explains that the use of such helmet presents a risk minimization issue for the team playing defense. The bright reflection of the sun off the helmet poses a dangerous situation for the defense. In a) and b), the fact that the helmet meets the NOCSAE performance standard for batting helmets is admirable and is compliant to NOCSAE standards; unfortunately, it is judged by the umpire to be unreasonably dangerous and is illegal for use. There are several rules references prohibiting the use of such equipment. #1-5-9,10) Regarding c), the player does have the right to own and use the helmet, just not for high school baseball competition. COMMENT: If the offensive team would like to use the batting helmet, it could make it less reflective by adding dull/matte black tape over the helmet in order to meet the intent of the rule. Rated 1 out of 5 by larryhunts Chrome paint comes off! My son loved the helmet at first, but the chrome paint started peeling pretty quickly. Now he hates how it looks and wants a new one. $60 helmet that didn't make it through one season doesn't rate well with me. July 15, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Baseball Mom Looks great My boys love this helmet. Helmet says fits all youth sizes and it fits both my 6 and 12 year old. I purchased this same helmet at the beginning of their baseball season but it did not even make it thru the season the chrome started to wear off and the padding in the inside was starting to pull away from the helmets inside. Dicks was great about returning the item with no questions. My kiddos love the way it looks and feels that I replaced the old helmet with another one that was just the same. I think it's a little over priced for the value. Just wish it had lasted longer. July 8, 2014

Rated 5 out of 5 by Jackiee proven Aside from shiny silver color, my son got a 65 mph fast ball to his head, and walked off smiling. The padding saved my sons life. No dents either on helmet. June 9, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by nn Illegal to use a refective helmet in my Little League. Helmet was fine but after several games, we were called out by an umpire that reflective helmets were not legal to use in our Little League. Wish I knew before I bought that! May 20, 2014
