IT BROKE before I could get it out of the STORE!!!
So I sold my two piece kayak on craigslist in hopes of getting a nice down payment on a rotomolded kayak.
I have one kayak already; however, it is a 13 footer made by perception. I wanted a smaller, sit-in kayak for fishing.
The kayak at the store was ok at best on first impression, but I'm a functionality>appearance guy.
The sale guy took it down, and I sat in it. I adjusted the foot pegs to my liking. I am 6'1 and weigh 165. I'm not a huge guy.
The seat on the kayak has a plastic back to it, about the size of a college text book and is very thin. After I leaned back once, I heard a crack. I thought the adjustments maybe snapped out of place, so I readjusted the pull straps. Still nothing. After about 60 seconds in the kayak, I exited. When I looked at it again, I saw that the back piece had snapped.
Ok, maybe it was sat in a lot? Nope, went to another kayak hanging up and it was just as flimsy.
If you buy this kayak, great. I hope you never adjust yourself for comfort measures.
I still went with a perception kayak. Just one with better seating!

great kayak
My wife and I purchased 2 kayaks in store and went straight to the water. The swifty was amazing. She appeared to not be getting the idea of how to kayak until she tried the swifty and I was amazed how fast she began smiling and enjoying herself. The kayak we bought for her will be exchanged in the morning for another swifty. As several reviews state about the paddle holder hitting your hand. I can verify this due to me smashing my finger into it with enough force to cut myself. This is the only downfall I had the whole 3.5 hours we were out.

Fantastic For First-Timers
My husband and I bought a pair of these a little over a year ago. We settled on this particular kayak at the suggestion of my sister, who also owns one, and could not be more pleased with the quality or the value. We are not "extreme" in our outdoor adventures, but we have had smooth paddling on nearby lakes, and numerous sections of the Savannah River. They are fairly lightweight (I can tote one myself for a short stretch) and are easy to load. They feel VERY stable due to the length/width ratio, and there is plenty of room to store essentials for day trips. The adjustable foot pedals are beneficial in that anyone who borrows one can use it comfortably, and they can be used by our kids in a few years. Needless to say, I am very pleased with our investment and would recommend this handy little boat to anyone looking to get a start with kayaking.

Great kayak for lakes, sounds, bays and some rivers!
We have owned 2 swifty kayaks for approximately 5 years and love them. We have used them on lakes, in the sound on beach trips, and paddling on rivers. The cockpit is large and the kayak is roomie. Because of our good experience with the Swifty's, 8 of our friends have purchased one also, with number 9 and 10 to happen this summer. We think Dick's and Perception owe us a commission! They are a great size for women and light enough to put into an SUV to transport on your own to meet up with friends.
My husband is 6 foot tall and fits in easily. I would suggest that a taller man sit in 1 to make sure it feels big enough. We did a lot of research before buying our Swifty's and you can't find a better quality kayak in the same price range that tracks well.
Also, we have Yakama Big Sticks which have allowed us to transport 3 kayaks on our roof rack. A 4th is probably possible with an extra strap. We definitely recommend them.

Love it
Purchased the swiftly last spring and I love it. I am a female in my fifties and wanted something I can manage on my own. The swifty is lightweight. I am able to pick it up and carry it myself. I also chose it because of the short length. I am able to put it into my mini van with the passenger front seat down. It fits perfectly with the door closed. No need for ropes or a rack. Because I can throw it in the van myself I find that I use it frequently after work as well as on the weekends.

Yak Preforms Beyond Expectations
I bought this kayak after reading all the reviews. I've used several different brands and lengths in the past. This is the most Stable kayak I've been in, Tracking is excellent too... Turns easy, it is Easy, easy, easy to paddle. it is not a fast boat, but Swifty is a good name, because you can get it going. I average 4.3-mph on a relaxed steady paddle, and it doesn't wear me out. (mph- determined by my hand held Magellan Explorist 710 GPS)
I paddle on the Indian river, Halifax river, and lagoons. The yak handles boat wake just fine. The third wave usually gets you a little wet, if the bow drops in the wave trough. A spray Skirt (Lavika - Size M) works perfectly. It also helps on windy days, when there are waves in the main waterways, before getting back into the mangroves.
I am a photographer, and I've taken many photo's while floating. I've had no issues with stability. I was photographing an Osprey eagle and I ended up stretched out laying all the way back, on my back, snapping photos. The yak barely rocked around, and I was literally laying almost flat on the stern with my legs bent, but up in the air. I'm 5'10" and weigh 160lbs. I was surprised the yak is as stable as it is.
There is plenty of room behind the seat and in the bow to store things. Inside on either side of the seat, I can fit my tripod, and a folding chair, plus cameras, and other dry-bags...
I took her out to try and tip her over. No joy... this yak rocked back and forth, but is difficult to tip over. . yes the nose weaves 3-4 inches left to right as you paddle, but it's not a problem or annoying in any way. I picked a landmark on the other side of the bay and started paddling. I ended up right where I set off to get to. Other kayaks tend to either go to the right or left, and it's a pain to get yourself going forward again, never had that happen with this kayak.
I was downstream during low tide, I paddled back up threw some strong currents without a problem. The whirlpools were a bit of a pain, as I would take a stroke and not get enough push, because of the direction the pool was swirling - double stroke on the same side resolved the issue. There were little whirlpools everywhere, about 4' across. I thought, I would end up going back downstream with the current and spinning in a circle from one of the whirl pools, Nope... It reminded me of driving on ice. I drifted back and forth on top of the water a little, but the tracking was good. I've dealt with whirls pools on rivers before, and it was a surprise that the yak handled the turbulent water so well.
For the price, you can't go wrong... great kayak for just about anything. I fish, and photograph out of mine... as well as pleasure paddling just to be on the water. Also, it handles wind good too. I've been in 15-20 mph winds off the coast, and no problems so far... I'm in salt water. The kayak does fine. Just remember to rinse your yak off.
BTW... to help keep your yak from getting stained. Use car wax on it before you go out. The wax might improve your speed by a fraction, but it will save you from scrubbing, and scrubbing. The material it is made from stains easily...
I've got over 30 years of paddling behind me. You can't go wrong for the price on this kayak...

I LOVE MINE!!!!
This is my 1st yak, I LOVE IT! I yak in the rivers and lakes around. I've even gotten friends hooked when they hop in to try it out. GET ONE, you'll love it!!

Crusin Buzzards Bay
Took my Swifty with me crusin' the Buzzards Bay, Martha's Vineyard area. It performed excellently in the back bays and harbors, easy to control, a pure joy to explore in. For the price it can't be beat. I'm going to make a rod holder to slip onto the front of the cockpit and go fishing next year, same area. Thinking of putting a bottle holder in the design. Only problem I had was getting in and out from a swim platform, but this is a common problem with all kayaks.

I Found the Kayak for Me!
I am a retired female and I was looking for a kayak that I could easily pick up and put in my SUV alone. But, I wanted one that was sturdy and safe and handles well. The Swifty 9.5 did the trick! I love it! It far exceeds my expectations!
