Diamondback Boys' Cobra 20" Mountain Bike 2014 3 5 6 6
good bike for 6-9 yr old This is an greatbeginner gear bike. It does have drawbacks but which can be resolved rather easily( especially the gear shifting issue). Fix for the gear shifting issue, if your diamondback cobra comes with sunrace shifters call the diamondback support line and have them send you a shimano revo shifter.( free of charge). You might have to pay the labour charges for getting the shifter installed at your LBS. Once that's out of the way....its an amazing bike, and your boy will love it. My son can now change gears super easily. Its unfortunate that so many folks who buy the bike don't call the support #! It is heavy though......but you can't get an aluminium alloy frame in this price... September 17, 2014
Disappointment This bike weighs a ton! It is very difficult if not impossible to shift. My friend works at Dick's Sporting Goods assembling bikes. We bought it there and when we had trouble (immediately# we took it back to him #not the store). He was unable to fix it. The local bike shop also said it would need a whole new crank and isn't worth fixing. This was a waste of money. After seeing so many reviews saying the same thing I searched for recall info. They shouldn't be selling this bike. The chain somehow comes off the front gear then gets stuck between the chain guard and gear. I used to have a Diamondback mountain bike I rode all over Phoenix and it was okay, no real problems. Due to my experience with this bike I will never waste money on a Diamondback again. cant shift gears Like others, we cant shift gears either. My 8 yr old never can, and I have to arm wrestle it. Defeats the purpose. Ours was destroyed in a crash on back of car, and Im buying a different bike. He did, however, really enjoy this bike when not needing to change gears. August 7, 2014
Best bang for the buck out there. My 8-year old son outgrew his 16" bike and wanted something with multiple speeds. There are a number of <$200 bikes in this category, but many are very cheaply made, with stamped steel rims, etc. This Diamondback bike isn't a $400 mountain bike made of unobtanium, but it's much better than anything else out there, complete with alloy rims and a Shimano derailleur. You Get What you pay for I could not find the right high end bike at the right time for my son's birthday. I settled on a new diamondback from Dicks. My son is 6 and has been good to the bike. We bought a kick stand immediately and put it on because as with mountain bikes they don't have them. Kids are kids and bikes fall down and or kids crash with them. Somehow the crank shaft ended up bent after four months. Prior to that the pot metal hand brake levers both broke. Here is my two cents...either save $100 and get a really cheap bike at walmart or spend an extra $100 on better build. My son loves his bike but dad gets tired of having to fix it and or find new parts for it. His father was extremely hard on bikes and never had this many repairs. May 7, 2014
excellent value My son is very excited to get this bike outside to try. Unfortunately the weather is not cooperating! He, my wife and I really like the color...and I really like the features. I was missing a nut and washer for one of the front brake pads but i was able to find replacements at Walmart. Aside from that, the brakes and shifter seem to work very well. It appears to be very well made. April 15, 2014
