I recently purchased the new pureflow 3's (women's size 7.5) and was a little disappointed. I can't compare it to the 1st gen, but I've owned several of the 2nd gen and can comment on my experience with how the 3rd gen compares. The fit definitely changed. My biggest complaint is the toe box (or lack thereof). My pinky toe was completely squished, even when I tried a half size larger. The forefoot fit (on my feet) more like the puregrit 2 or cadence 2.
The majority of the changes were positive: The Nav band / mid foot area provides better support. The lacing system works much better than the asymmetric. (Side note on the lacing top hole position- I usually do a loop lock at the top, but the top hole was positioned too far back for it to work right.) Also, I didn't really notice a difference in the updated heel bevel or the the toe split.
Overall, the 3rd gen will be a good update for most, but sadly, the narrow forefoot might be my deal breaker. I loved the pureflow 2's because of their wide toe box. It could be that when they narrowed the mid foot, they subsequently narrowed the forefoot slightly- just a guess.
