Rated 4 out of 5 by Decent tent for the price My son and I recently purchased and used this tent for a week-long camping trip. The setup was amazing easy and intuitive, and the telescoping poles permanently attached to the tent were a cool feature, and worked out-of-the-box as expected. The size was perfect for 2 people and gear. 3 would be a bit crowded, but that's normal for "3 person tents" I suppose. We covered it over with an awning so I cannot report how waterproof it is. I assume as with most tents you should waterproof the seams. I concur with other reviewers that the zipper constantly catches on the little rain-flaps bordering it. This makes opening and closing the door a 2-handed task, which is REALLY annoying when camping and trying to carry gear. I have considered cutting off the flaps even if that allows a bit of rain to seep in the zipper. I would have liked another vent or window because air circulation was not great. Of course it being 90-degrees every day didn't help. The down-side to the simple setup is this is a very long tent when all folded up because the poles are not detachable and collapsable. It is not overly heavy, but this length problem would make this tent burdensome for backpacking. All in all this is a decent tent, but with flaws... you WILL curse the zipper by the end of your first day camping. I feel it is a fairly good deal for the price though. July 23, 2015
Rated 2 out of 5 by Coleman 3-person Instant Tent My intent was to purchase a small tent for my son and I to camp and not have to carry around a larger tent with poles, etc. Plus, the idea that it assembles quickly was intriguing. We have a larger coleman 6 person tent that has served us well for about 6 years. Unfortunately, we are not happy with the tent. There are two design features that I think are problematic. AND one of our poles did not snap into place (defective). This meant we had one corner of our tent sagging in on us all weekend. We were able to assemble the tent in less than a minute. But with the defective pole, it was a frustrating experience. The two design problems are with the door/zipper mechanism and the rain fly location above the door. The door zipper is surrounded by extra flaps. I assume these are to keep water away from the zipper if raining. I guess in theory it makes sense. However, the flaps constantly get snagged in the zipper and the flaps block the location of the zipper so you have to search for it each time you enter from the outside. Small design features like this matter. Especially when its dark or raining. The other flaw in my opinion is how the built-in rain fly sticks out over the door. It forces an adult to crawl out of door on hands and knees rather than step out and stand up. This is also partly because of the size of the tent. Height is only about 36 inches inside. For these reasons, I cannot recommend this tent. I am a fan of Coleman products in general, but this tent is poorly designed and quality is suspect. I'm returning it. October 20, 2014
