Rated 4 out of 5 by 2 reviewers.
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good for calm water Positives are it paddles very easy and turns on a dime. It goes great in very shallow water clears rocks my other kayaks bottom out on. It really doesn't go any faster then my 10ft kayak as I found out racing my buddy but it does paddle with less effort and fatigue. The dry hatch is very nice much nicer then my perception kayak. If you can keep a straight line it goes awesome in rapids but once you go side ways you will flip although this kayak isn't meant for rapids so can't really expect to go whitewater with it. Negatives are because it's very narrow and the haul design it flips very easy in ruff water if you get sideways, found out the fun way on a class 2 rapid. Just turning around to reach the dry storage lid I almost flipped this kayak. Also I'm 5ft 9in tall 170lbs and the cock pit is a bit tight and difficult to get in or out while in shallow water if you have to port to pull through shallows it's not fun getting in and out of this kayak maybe a smaller guy or female wouldn't have this issue. Rated 4 out of 5 by Nice boat I am a beginner kayaker. Before choosing and purchasing a boat, I did my homework. Despite not being able to find a single review or YouTube video (other than from the manufacturer), I settled on the Chase 120. I did expect some instability due to its v-hull design and narrow profile, but I expected to get some speed and maneuverability in return. And that is precisely what I got. It tracks very well and turns on a dime for a 12 foot boat. The instability truly is minor in comparison to the speed and maneuverability returns. My girlfriend purchased a Perception Sport Swiftwater 12. I expected that that boat would be much more stable. But in comparison to the pelican, it was not. And it doesnt track as well as the pelican either. We're going to take it back and get her a pelican chase 120 as well. The seat is very comfortable and everything is made with quality parts. It looks like a boat that should last for years to come. For those that are curious about the rudder. It does not come with one, but is fully equipped to install a rudder kit ($200).The consThe cockpit is small. I'm 5'10" 190lbs and once you're in, it's pretty comfortable, but it does take a bit more contorting than most yaks. Very low profile in the water. I'd like to see the deck sit a bit higher off the water line for more turbulent conditions, but so far it hasn't been a problem. Other than that it's a great boat for the money, and I would definitely recommend it to others. It looks great and paddles great. Good buy! June 25, 2014
