Rated 5 out of 5 by Easy to learn and great fun! I bought the maverick 100X two weeks ago and have been out 4 times in different weather conditions. It's been sunny with no wind to rain and 20+ mph winds with 1.5 foot white caps on the lake! I never once felt like I didn't have total control and this boat builds your confidence in your paddling ability very quickly! I would say the only down side I have found is there isn't quite enough storage vs the amount i would like to bring for a day long trip. The storage well in the stern with the criss cross net doesn't like to stretch over anything more than 10 inches high. Overall this is a great kayak that is very comfortable to sit in for hours at a time and will make you feel like a pro in no time! April 27, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great Yak for Beginner or Intermediate Paddlers! This is my second kayak - I got it last year during the Memorial Day sale. It is definitely a steal of a deal for a great beginner/intermediate kayak. The seat is so comfortable, and it is very stable and handles well in the water. My husband and I frequent the Etowah River in Georgia, and I have found that this kayak tracks very well. My only complaints are that there's no cup holder (I got a clip-on cup holder on the cheap from Dick's Sporting Goods, so I'm good to go!) and that there are no paddle keepers (my husband's Pelican Angler kayak has 2, so I guess I've been a little spoiled by that). Overall, it is an excellent kayak for the price. March 12, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Worth the money Searched a lot of kayaks before buying this one. Stable enough for novice but still easy to maneuver. Light enough to carry short distances. Ample storage. Short enough to easily store on garage wall and carry in truck bed. Consider it comfortable after a 4 hour trip. Also bought a 230cm paddle. Any shorter and I think I would be hitting the sides of kayak too much. $70-80 dollar paddle worth it for the lightness. If in choppy lake and taking on water, I got a $15 hand bildge just in case I am too far from shore to dump out water. Sit in will keep you warmer than a sit on especially in windy conditions. Happy with my purchase. October 14, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Pelican Maverick 100x Kayak very nice and well constructed Kayak, nice and light yet strong, we are pretty sure we are getting another one for my Wife.......kinda wish it had another hach on the front deck October 4, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Wow -the best I had done my homework but the salesman in the Riverhead store was very helpful in answering questions and assisting in placing the online order since this wasn't in stock. It's exactly what I wanted! The freight delivery guy was rather rude - not Dick's fault - but I am thrilled with my purchase. October 2, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by stable, light weight, tracks true, super fun! I bought this kayak during the June boat sale and have taken it out at least twice weekly since then. A quick rinse with the hose after use has kept it looking brand new. The large cockpit easily accommodates a 50 lb (well behaved) dog! The boat tracks well and is very stable even in 1 foot lake waves! The phone holder works great for a handheld fish finder, and the seat is comfortable enough after 4+ hours fishing. The rear storage platform is shallow and the mesh deck cover doesn't expand much, limiting the height of what can be stored here. In rough water this area will get wet so dry bags are essential. The only alteration I made was to mount a Scotty Paddle Clip, but I plan to add a half spray skirt to extend the paddling season for a new perspective on autumn in New England! September 30, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great First Yak! The yak glides nicely through the water, and stays on track. I am 37 yr, 230lbs Sporty type body frame. The product has al of the tie downs I require, but the rear dock has the ability to take on water. So, make sure you buy containers to keep your personal goods. I do not like the way the foam padding for you knees is adhere'ed. It tends to rub a knuckle,, but could be to my style of rowing.. All in all, it a great first Kayak, and I hope to have many more years with it. Before making the review I paddled around Pike Lake WI, Milwaukee River in Grafton, and Random Lake. I can't wait to attach my fishing pole !!! September 4, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Large person welcome I am new to kayaking and have been out around a total of 10 times this summer. This kayak has some great features- Pros- fairly light weight, I could carry and load this myself if need be -Very stable on water - Plenty of room for a larger person -->I'm around 5'10 and right at 295lbs and this kayak carries me great. -Open/Net cargo area (I personally do not trust the water tight hatch-- I wont risk putting anything in there that may be ruined by water) -Fairly comfortable seat Cons- Rear open hatch will get some water due to boat wakes or leaning to far to the side. - While the opening is good sized ( I have no trouble getting in or out--- or tossing my legs on the top of the kayak while in the water) I would prefer a longer opening. I would highly recommend this kayak! I have been using mine on small rivers and lakes. September 1, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Perfect recreational kayak I purchased this kayak earlier in the summer, along with a Future Beach Fusion 10 for my wife. We are both pleased with our respective kayaks, but I certianly prefer my Maverick. I bought it with regular, recreational use as well as angler use in mind, and it serves both purposes perfectly. I'm 6'-4" 205lbs and it handles me with ease. Pros: - very light, about 10lbs lighter than the Fusion 10 which makes a big difference when wrangling them on and off the car. - The seat is fantastic, and the adjustable seat back works great. Superior padding to anything in this price range. - Very stable, even when fishing and reaching around for tackle. Also, easy to enter and exit due to the stability. - Knee pads are a plus. - Rear storage compartment is perfect for fishing gear, water-tight hatch is indeed water tight. Cons: - Nalgene bottle holder between the legs is great, but I would have preferred a proper cup holder. Fusion 10 wins in that category. - Drain plug is an absolute pain to remove. It's a compression style plug, vs the screw in style found on various others. Screw in style is much easier to deal with. - Thinner plastic material slightly deforms when strapped to the roof of the car, but it seems to always come back to shape. Despite thinner material, no concerns of durability for me. - White hull shows every mark and scrape, gets dirty quickly. Occasional wash takes care of that. Long and the short of it is that I'm beyond pleased with this as my recreational kayak, excels in every category! August 28, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by This product is stable This kayak is perfect for my needs. It's light enough to carry. The open seating area allows air and sun to reach my legs. The seat is very comfortable and supports my back well when adjusted. Best of all it is easy to paddle and control. My previous kayak was a white water rapids type which I used on flat water. It was too easy to over paddle and needed constant correction to stay on course. When I stop paddling, this one continues to coast forward. It is so much more stable too making getting in and out easy. I no longer feel like I'm going to tip over if I move around too much. August 26, 2014
