Rated 4 out of 5 by jlg23us Great First Yak! The yak glides nicely through the water, and stays on track. I am 37 yr, 230lbs Sporty type body frame. The product has al of the tie downs I require, but the rear dock has the ability to take on water. So, make sure you buy containers to keep your personal goods. I do not like the way the foam padding for you knees is adhere'ed. It tends to rub a knuckle,, but could be to my style of rowing.. All in all, it a great first Kayak, and I hope to have many more years with it. Before making the review I paddled around Pike Lake WI, Milwaukee River in Grafton, and Random Lake. I can't wait to attach my fishing pole !!! September 4, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Redneck kayaker Large person welcome I am new to kayaking and have been out around a total of 10 times this summer. This kayak has some great features- Pros- fairly light weight, I could carry and load this myself if need be -Very stable on water - Plenty of room for a larger person -->I'm around 5'10 and right at 295lbs and this kayak carries me great. -Open/Net cargo area (I personally do not trust the water tight hatch-- I wont risk putting anything in there that may be ruined by water) -Fairly comfortable seat Cons- Rear open hatch will get some water due to boat wakes or leaning to far to the side. - While the opening is good sized ( I have no trouble getting in or out--- or tossing my legs on the top of the kayak while in the water) I would prefer a longer opening. I would highly recommend this kayak! I have been using mine on small rivers and lakes. September 1, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Bob Perfect recreational kayak I purchased this kayak earlier in the summer, along with a Future Beach Fusion 10 for my wife. We are both pleased with our respective kayaks, but I certianly prefer my Maverick. I bought it with regular, recreational use as well as angler use in mind, and it serves both purposes perfectly. I'm 6'-4" 205lbs and it handles me with ease. Pros: - very light, about 10lbs lighter than the Fusion 10 which makes a big difference when wrangling them on and off the car. - The seat is fantastic, and the adjustable seat back works great. Superior padding to anything in this price range. - Very stable, even when fishing and reaching around for tackle. Also, easy to enter and exit due to the stability. - Knee pads are a plus. - Rear storage compartment is perfect for fishing gear, water-tight hatch is indeed water tight. Cons: - Nalgene bottle holder between the legs is great, but I would have preferred a proper cup holder. Fusion 10 wins in that category. - Drain plug is an absolute pain to remove. It's a compression style plug, vs the screw in style found on various others. Screw in style is much easier to deal with. - Thinner plastic material slightly deforms when strapped to the roof of the car, but it seems to always come back to shape. Despite thinner material, no concerns of durability for me. - White hull shows every mark and scrape, gets dirty quickly. Occasional wash takes care of that. Long and the short of it is that I'm beyond pleased with this as my recreational kayak, excels in every category! August 28, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Green Hornet This product is stable This kayak is perfect for my needs. It's light enough to carry. The open seating area allows air and sun to reach my legs. The seat is very comfortable and supports my back well when adjusted. Best of all it is easy to paddle and control. My previous kayak was a white water rapids type which I used on flat water. It was too easy to over paddle and needed constant correction to stay on course. When I stop paddling, this one continues to coast forward. It is so much more stable too making getting in and out easy. I no longer feel like I'm going to tip over if I move around too much. August 26, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by tcstix My first kayak and I love it! This is my first kayak, so I don't have others to compare it to, but I like this one. It's easy to steer and transport. It's comfortable, too. I'm glad I went with one that has the side pads. When I paddle I think I get water in the back area from the paddles, so I wish the water-sealed compartment was a little higher up so that I don't have water coming in when I open it. I might drill a hole in there with a plug or something to help with that. It's constructed well and fun to use. A good buy. August 12, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Savannah Leigh Perfect for beginners I bought one of these kayaks during the Memorial Day Sale after my boyfriend bought one from Bass Pro, and I have to say, this one is definitely the better of the two. It's lightweight, so I can load it and unload it by myself (I'm only 5'3"), and it's fast. I live on the Chesapeake Bay and this thing can easily take the waves. I love it so much I went out and bought a second one a month later, and am seriously considering getting two more so the whole family can go out. If you've never kayaked before, this is definitely the one you want to start off with. August 12, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by DanS Great kayak I bought the Maverick 100x a couple of weeks ago and have used it several times. I really love it, and expect it will be the only kayak I will ever need! My daughter bought a Future Beach Fusion 10 at the same time, and hers might be just a little bit faster, but they both are great kayaks. I bought the Maverick due to having the open storage deck on the back - it will do double duty for recreation and fishing. I added two flush mount rod holders behind the seat, and they worked out great. The Maverick has nice seat padding, as well as the extra padding on the rails so your knees won't rub. The phone holder works for GPS, and also works for a phone if you put it in a waterproof case and tether it to the boat - it should hold a phone without tethering it, but why would anyone take that risk? My only complaint (minor) is that when I lean to the sides, a little water tends to flow down the cockpit channel into the rear storage area. The rear water resistant hatch seems to keep every bit of the water out, but I wouldn't completely trust it with anything valuable. I bought it site to store for $320 after a $30 off promo on the site. I called ahead to the store, and they pulled it for me while I drove to the store - in and out in 5 minutes. August 5, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Randy336 Good yak for the money My wife and I are new to yaking but not water sports or fishing. Bought two yaks July 9th and have used them about six times (3 hours each trip on a moderate river with deep water and shallow areas of less than 6" with rocks dragging, before writing this. One was the Pelican Maverick 100X and the other an Old Town Trip 10. Dick's associates were great in their knowledge and helping to load. The Pelican is a great yak for the money. It is not really equipped for fishing but with a little effort and about $75.00 you can turn it into a fishing yak. Very stable and so far a durable hull. This boat is much better than the Old Town Trip 10 which cost $200.00 more and had quality control issues. I recommend the Pelican for beginners ,which we are. I don't think you will disappointed. I wish I had bought two Pelicans instead of the Old Town. July 30, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Justojah Good starter Good starter kayak, being this is my first kayak. I am a heavier rider and this moves just as nice as my thinner buddy in his kayak. Great tracking and stability, very easy entry and re entry. July 27, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Mark A great Kayak for the money. This is my second kayak and it is amazing how much better this tracks than my first kayak. Also, it has a hatch to keep my billfold and iPhone dry. The seat is comfortable and easily adjustable. Currently I am using it in a large lake area and considering purchasing another one for my wife. Highly recommend this kayak for anyone considering the price, features and quality. Lastly, I bought the kayak at the Evansville In store and received great advice and service from everyone I encountered. July 24, 2014
