Rated 4 out of 5 by Samson Perfect Fit I'm 6'1, 275lb so weight limit was THE most important aspect as I plan on pontoons, battery & trolling motor. Today was it's virgin launch and I am 110% satisfied. First thing first, I tightened all screws as I read yaks in transit always get bounced around and jiggled about. Bought a bail sponge and secured to middle hatch cover and pleased to say at end of trip the sponge was dead dry. I hit the back bays and fished the jetties in Murrells Inlet, SC, Parsonage Creek. The yak handled extremely well even when boats passed. The 2nd jump seat is going to be used way more once the stability of pontoons are added. There was no single event, and I had a couple of jerks and off balanced type scenarios that really made me nervous. Very well balanced. It is NOT fast but very steady and even without the Skag it tracks ok. I am no expert. I've paddled a yak as a young man very few times and now at 45 I couldn't stand not being able to fish those back bay weeds! 8) Buy in confidence. Anyone lighter then 210lb could easily stand in this yak without the pontoons. Another great thing I'll add is the stock seat is comfortable. The seat has many straps giving you many positions throughout the day and getting to those adjustments were made on the fly easily. I left around 9am, hit a nice stack around 11ish and felt so steady I took a nap for 20 minutes in the yak. May 4, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Gi-Anglin-Jim Best bang for your buck First let me start off by saying you will never find a kayak for this price that offers 3 different methods of paddling. The seat is pretty good it is the DLX version the 4 rod holders in the back are ok trim down a pool noodle and your rods will sit snug as for the hatches there decent I bought the set of 3 dry bags for 9.99 I do wish perception would have at least put a dry bag where the center hatch is but again best bang for the buck. This isn't the fastest kayak but if you get a decent paddle anything over $100 you'll be good I paddled a good 7 miles yesterday in this in salt water it can handle some monster wakes. This is a short review but I'll give it a 5/5 stability I tried flipping it didn't work lol tracking 4/5 get yourself a rudder and tracking would be a 5/5 speed 4/5 you gotta remember this is a kayak not a speed boat. Rated 4 out of 5 by Striker 11.5 This kayak is a beast. Great shipping My striker came with minimal damage. Just a couple of haul loops busted off but I could tell this thing wasn't dragged or tossed around. It came with no scratches or cracks My guess is they hit the side of the truck or wall misjudging the length of this massive kayak. I called perception and they are sending me the loops for free. I got free shipping too which was cool. no big deal.( they are cheap parts anyways) Perception really made a great kayak for 500 bucks. If your looking to fish off a kayak, perception has a great line up. The pescador was my second runner up but decided to get the striker for the fact I'm not going out more than 2-3 miles, the striker is Not meant for long distances, this thing is 33" wide. I'm using it for inland lakes, rivers, and possibly Lake Erie if it's calm enough. This kayak is nuts. It's brand new for 2014. Well why are you still reading? Get out and hook a big one hahaha. Oh yea this kayak came with more goodies than the ones off the actual perception site. It came with a 3 1/2pound anchor, harmony seat and Scotty rod holder. So do some homework but dicks has the best deal. April 8, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by FishChaser Striker 11.5 Good 1st kayak I have taken out this kayak twice and have been very pleased with it. It tracks decently, but not great. That is due to the fact that it is a wider type kayak. As a beginner I would gladly sacrifice stability over speed. It is very stable. Only when I had a heavy head wind was it hard to paddle and go forward at at fast speed. Great kayak for the flats. Performs well on approaching boat wakes. Barely even felt them. Kayak can hold some weight. I had at least an additional 75 pounds of gear and it was at the same level to the water. Hull stayed nice and dry after 5 hours even after one overboard turn over while practicing stand up stability. (I forced it to flip over just to test the range of extension to each side). I can stand up easily to stretch which comes very handy. Other kayak anglers within site were jealous of my ability to stand up and stretch. Casting from the stand up position will take some practice but very doable despite the fact that I am 6'2" 250 lbs. The seat is very comfortable when adjusted properly. The front dry storage is easy to get to if you really need to get to it. The turning mechanism in the front dry storage hatch could use a redesign but a bit of oil or grease will pay off. Just don't get sand on it. The middle hatch is handy as well but you really need to add a 6 inch bag. The anchor is great and hold up just fine. The rear rod holders do the job. I rigged up my cooler 13x 20 in the back storage with a longer bungee. The stock one us just too tight and not long enough to slip a cooler underneath. Plenty of space back there to tie stuff up. This has been a great first kayak and I caught a nice 18" spotted sea trout on my first trip to go with it. I will enjoy this kayak for 2 years before the big upgrade. Don't hesitate to buy. You will be glad you did. July 15, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Speardawg Worth Every Penny Tracking is tolerable..buy a decent paddle. Both hatches work fine for me. Stable...very stable. I am 275 and have stood in it and fished standing, takes a few minutes to get use to. High seat works well but I like to store anchor there for quick access. Even in the low seat I sit higher up in the water than most kayaks for easy casting, flipping and sight fishing. It handles boat wakes really well. Rod holders could be tighter...I use pipe insulation to make for a snug fit. Kayak came with seat, anchor, Scotty mount, and preinstalled pad eyes. Highly recommend. Excellent price for performance. Definitely customizable for adding diy anchor trolley, GPS/fish finder mount, fish crate setup, rocket launcher rod holder, etc. Northborough MA store staff was very helpful, Excellent fishing dept. staff. Rated 5 out of 5 by Xxrhodesxx Good job I purchase this yak with the need to stand and fish !! I looked around for a while and noticed I was going to have to put some money into a kayak that I could stand. I have 4 other kayaks but all are sit In. I fish a lot and the first trip out I was impressed !!! It is very stable and tracks well for a large kayak . I fished all day standing and had no trouble my 4 yearold stood on the front while I stood too !! The front hatch sticks and is hard to open but I'm sure it's from the sand . Only complaint is the rod holder is kinda far to reach when sitting.. The price is half of other kayaks of this type witch make it a great buy for the bargain shopper .. I would def recommend April 18, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by msstatefan91 Perfect for Fishing and Exploring This kayak is the perfect and most ideal kayak for fishing. The price is reasonable and the boat is very sturdy. I weight 230 pounds and get in and out of this very easily. When getting out you can easily stand up in the kayak and step out with ease, unlike those sit in kayaks that flip easily. More than plenty of storage space for fishing poles, tackle boxes, coolers, etc. The only downfall that I've discovered is the rod holder on the front right of the kayak is a bit hard to ready and seems almost pointless at times, but it has to be that far up in the kayak not to cause any problems with paddling. Overall this is a definite 5 start rating, mainly because of the superior stability that this kayak has and you can easily fish out of it. I would highly recommend this kayak. July 6, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by RoosterTail Great Kayak Amazing Kayak. If you are looking for a very universal kayak this is the one. Great buy but do note that tracking is not the best and the dry storage can be tough to open. Fishing is great with this boat and stability is a 10. I highly recommend this buy. June 10, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by JBaker everything I was looking for I bought this kayak looking for an upgrade from the small sit in I bought last year. 50% of the time im fishing and 50% of the time im floating the rivers here in Arkansas just having a good time with friends. This yak fits both bills! Tons of storage and very stable! The captins seat is perfect for fishing when ur tired of standing. The fact u can easily get to front hatch without fear of flipping is awesome. Im 6' 5" 230 lbs so im not a small guy and I move around on this thing with no fear of flipping. Highly recommended.
