Rated 2 out of 5 by Good idea but... The design is flawed. It's great with all the little features like the tow behind and the pockets, but the overall design is flawed. It sits way too high in the water which makes the back end stick out. That leads it to spin erratically while paddling. If you paddle lightly it'll go straight but as soon as you try to put power behind it, it veirs to the right or left depending on which side you last paddled. It does not do well on the ocean either btw. I was practically at the waves mercy and most of my energy was spent on trying to correct the steering. I read all the reviews on this yak and figured I'd give it a try cuz maybe it was just a one off here and there. Well what they say is true. Don't get me wrong I still like it but for the price I'd like it to at least go straight. Lol so with a heavy heart I have to admit I'm returning it and buying a larger yak like the Perception tribe 115. With all that said, I would recommend this yak to anyone under 5'8, and u will either need a lot of weight in the boat or a rudder. September 1, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Stability comes with use. I've seen a lot of complaints about the stability of this kayak and I understand where they are coming from. My first time out on it, I was shaky and unstable. BUT after 20 minutes I settled in pretty comfortably. And after a couple times out, it would take quite a bit to flip me in this thing. I've taken it out in relatively rough water and had zero issues with stability. This kayak does not track well if you are not paddling. If you stop paddling, it will very likely veer. I've found that this can be minimized by utilizing your weight to shift to either side. If my weight is centered, there will be less veering. The "pontoon-vshaped-round" hybrid hull is likely to blame for this. It does move smoothly through the water and is quicker than other kayaks that may be more stable. The materials used are excellent. It has survived heavy use, including ocean, lakes and rivers. With very minimal wear on any of the parts. It's lightweight considering it's size. I find the seat comfortable and the leg pads are perfectly placed. If you're going out for an extended period, I would definitely recommend shoes or sandals as the foot pads are not that comfortable. I am a bigger guy, 6'1", 220 so I had to find a way to plug the bailing holes to keep me dry. I ended up using nuts, bolts, washers and gaskets to seal them, that way I can remove them if I want. There are scupper plugs you can buy too if you want to try those. My wife and kids don't weigh as much so they don't get wet when they use it. All the storage is awesome, I haven't even been able to use it all yet! All in all, the prices I've seen for this one more than make up for any perceived shortcomings as others in similar lines can be twice as expensive. September 1, 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by avoid this product My husband and I purchased this boat . Dick's personnel loaded the boat into our car and we went straight to the river . As soon as we tried to pull the boat out of the SUV, we realized that one of the carrying handles was missing . I pulled on a strap on the side and it broke . I was in the water aboout 10 minutes when the seat broke . The boat is poorly made . I also saw that several had been returned AFTER we had purchased and returned our boat. What a disappointment !!!! Rated 2 out of 5 by Stability Issues This kayak has alot of stability issues. We have four kayaks and this one is always the one that no one want to take out. I have found that you go in circles alot in it. July 15, 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by Non Steering Kayak If you want a kayak that goes around and around in circles, this is your choice. We purchased two of these kayaks and could not control them. It was so much effort to get them to track that it wore us out. Very disappointed with the design. July 15, 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by This product I wouldn't recommend. We bought 2 so that friends would be able to go with us from time to time. After 15 minutes my daughter was really struggling to control the one she was in, so I swapped with her and was amazed at how aggravating it was to control it was a constant struggle. If you quit paddling it would spin to the left 75% of the time and it was taking on water, the other kayak my wife was now in and she was having as hard a time as I was, same issue spinning to the left as soon as you quit paddling. We were not happy, but Dicks took the kayaks back and we will special order 2 more Pescador kayaks, they are very easy to control and are much better made. Sundolphin is more affordable {cheaper},but you get what you pay for. The 1 good thing I can say about the Sundolphin is that I didn't sink, but I did dump about 2 gallons of water out of it after 1-1/2 hrs. July 12, 2015
Rated 3 out of 5 by good for the money if you catch it on sale Caught it on sale for almost half off. Awesome storage, very comfortable, light weight for moving to top of car. Terrible tracking. Couldn't keep it straight, a stroke with any force behind it caused it to do a 180. Im returning it and getting a field and stream eagle talon solely because of that. June 22, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by very good beginner kayak took it out for the first time it was stable and tracked very well. Great for teenagers and young children because my brother how is 7 years old tried it and it preformed very well all the way up to my 20 year old sister. May 23, 2015
Rated 2 out of 5 by work out Hard to control unless your barely paddling. Power strokes equal circles. Stability wasn't quite there. Wife didn't like it and its being returned. Dicks Sporting Goods worked with us to get a different kayak. May 16, 2015
Rated 2 out of 5 by bali ss I recently purchased the sun dolphin 10 bali ss for a fishing kayak, I have 2 sun dolphin sit in kayaks ( aruba) which I absolutely love. My two SIT IN are very stable but this was my first sit on. this would be a very 'wiggley' kayak for a beginner, or a larger person with no kayak or canoe experience. I will most likely be fishing out of my sit in more than this one. April 19, 2015
