Rated 5 out of 5 by magickjohnson Best you can buy for the price I've owned a few jackets made from TNF's Apex material, and they've all been great. This one is their mid-weight insulated jacket, so others writing reviews complaining about the jacket's warmth most likely think it is supposed to have the effect of a heavily-insulated hard shell jacket. It doesn't. If you want to stay warm in temperatures under 15-20 degrees F, you still have to layer with this jacket. A really nice medium-to-heavy weight fleece will perform commendably in this task. Furthermore, this is a soft shell jacket, and not an insulated hard shell, and as such, will block most but not all wind (although, again, most likely will perform well when paired with a good fleece). I wore this jacket out without a mid layer one day in the middle of a snowstorm on a walk to the grocery and the 35 mph gusts were piercing through the weave easily. Anyways, if you're expecting to be warm after an extended period of time in sub-freezing temperatures and low wind chills while simply wearing a t-shirt under this jacket, you'll be disappointed. If you want something like that, you should expect to pay at least twice the price of this jacket. That being said, this jacket's breathability and warmth retention on the slopes is fantastic. It's water resistance (remember that this does not mean waterproof - again, if you want completely windproof and waterproof, you'll have to pay at least twice the price for a goretex jacket), has been on par with many of the soft shells I've bought from other popular outdoor gear manufacturers. This jacket's insulation is great when paired up with a good mid-layer in temperatures under 20 degrees but gets a bit clammy when its over 30 and you're being active. Construction is sturdy although I ripped my last jacket skiing trees (my fault) which is why I decided to buy another. Overall, this is the best product of this type that you can get for the price, but again, don't expect this jacket to circumvent your need for your base- and mid-layers when you're going to be outside all day. Rated 5 out of 5 by DS Great mid-weight jacket. Very satisfied with jacket. Looks good in black. Light-weight but warm. Not for extreme cold, unless layered. November 13, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by cb55 Lightweight & Warm Wore this skiing last weekend in NY State. Teps were -4 with 25mph winds. Stayed warm and dry. Coat also cut the wind. February 18, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by dickies NIce material, not as warm as would have thought. it is very vibrant and sturdy material. I love the look and comfort but it is not as warm and still needs to be layered in Michigan to keep warm. February 25, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by junctionheat Great Coat Never owned a The North Face coat before. Pretty impressed on the quality and craftsmanship. This coat is lightweight, yet very warm. The fit is perfect, not to big and not to small. Highly recommend this coat to everyone. February 1, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Elliott0810 Very happy with purchase! My husband saw this coat in-store and he later purchased it online. Fits true to size. Not too bulky but very warm. It's a great coat and worth the money. We live in a heavy snow area, making this an excellent choice. Would highly recommend this coat. He purchased the all black coat. November 28, 2014

Rated 3 out of 5 by timmytimmaay Nice jacket, zipper too small, not super warm Overall, I'm happy with my purchase. The jacket is nice, good looking, and functional. One issue is that the main zipper is too small, and therefore catches more easily. The other issue, I'm surprised that it doesn't keep me as warm as I would have thought. We've had temps in the teens and 20's recently, and I find myself grabbing my wool jacket as opposed to this one to keep warmer. March 5, 2015
Rated 2 out of 5 by DJ Not a winter jacket This is a good light weight Jacket but it can't make you warm when temp is below 20 degree. February 25, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Marc324 Exceeded expectations This jacket is fantastic! I wanted a nice warm winter jacket, and this exceeds on all levels. It is comfortable, lightweight but very warm, waterproof, and simply feels great inside and out. It fits a little snug in the armpit area, but otherwise is perfection. February 21, 2015
