Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Kit Well worth it. If you're going to buy an expensive glove don't ruin it by not breaking it in the right way. Rawlings has been in business for a long time and this product didn't disappoint. I also recommend getting a wooden ball mallet to simulate playing catch and targeting the pocket. My son loves his glove and this kit broke it in perfectly. I applied the oil 4 times. Each time I did it I worked the oil into the glove with the sponge, pounded the pocket with the mallet for about 10 minutes, placed the ball in it, then stretched the band around it. The band is thick and better than the shoe strings or thin rubber bands I've used in the past. I let the glove sit for a day then repeated the process. Take your time to break in a glove - DO NOT think you're going to buy a glove one day and use it in a game the next day. Also DO NOT put your glove in the oven or microwave in hopes of making it softer/break it in. I've seen posts out there recommending this and I've heard from friends it will ruin the glove by making the leather flimsy in time. June 26, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Better than back in the day... Back in the day, we used to break in baseball mitts by sticking a shot-put in the pocket, wrapping it tight, and submerging it in water overnight. After letting it dry out, we'd untie it and oil it with shaving cream. Toss a baseball into the newly formed pocket a few hundred times and, presto, you had a new mitt with a great pocket. Modern times call for better methods. Rawlings has a kit that forgoes the water (bad for the leather anyway) and gives you all the tools to create that great pocket. The kit is worth it for the band that goes around the glove all by itself. Add in the right-sized (plastic) ball and "break-in" oil and you have the modern day version of the old school method. We just used this on my son's Wilson (sorry Rawlings) mitt and it worked great. He will continue to put the ball in the pocket and the band on the glove whenever he packs it so it stays perfectly formed. Well worth the money. Highly recommend it.... March 26, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Overall Good Product I play woman's college softball and had lost my Rawlings glove that I had for 7 years. The new glove I bought was a Nokona (known for its difficulty in breaking in the leather). I've used this product twice now for breaking in gloves and it breaks in the glove decently well. Although, you may need to repeat the treatment 2-3 times and play catch with it afterward. It also darkens the leather by about two shades. Overall, this product defiantly speeds up the process of breaking in a new glove. Does its job and would buy this product for a third time if needed. August 21, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Made glove usable after 1 application! My 10 yo son could not catch and hold the ball in his new glove. After one application and an overnight with the ball shaper and strap on my sone could catch again! May 28, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by This product restored my gloves pocket My review of this product is that it does what it is meant to do. I have used this on three gloves so far and I am happy with the results. December 3, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by This product perform as designed! Rawlings means Sports. Buying Rawlings for years. Strongly recommend it and should be kept handy in every sports equipment bag November 7, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good stuff Easy to apply and worked really well. Glove softened up nicely but think another application would make it perfect. November 4, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Works as Advertised Applied this to my new Rawlings leather glove and played catch with it twice since. I can already feel the difference. It does seem to darken the leather slightly but it's even all over the glove so it doesn't bother me at all. Bottom line. Product works as described. You will need to play with the glove to break it in fully. September 9, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great tools This is a good tool to break in your childs glove. August 13, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Over Priced Under Preforms I would have been better off with a can of shaving cream with lanalon at a lot less money for the same results. May 7, 2014
