Rated 5 out of 5 by Jenn72 Great Kayak for the money
I purchased my kayak about a year and a half ago. I LOVE THIS THING!!! I am very new to kayaking so I'm sure there are much nicer kayaks out there but I really think for the money, I made the best choice. This thing is light enough for me to be able to load and unload on and off the car. I'm not a large woman (only 5 feet) so if I can do it, I'm sure most people could. Ties easily on top. I wouldn't think twice if I had to do it again. I don't think I could have made a better choice. I'm getting my son into kayaking and when I buy him his own, it will be another future beach just like mine.

This kayak has good width for comfortable leg room where your knees aren't pressed together like on the Perception 9 but I definitely will add the padding also for the sides that touches the sides of your legs. The surprising thing is that the pegs are high where for a person with size 11 shoes you can't place the middle of your foot on the foot pegs or your toes will hit the top of the kayak so you have to have the pegs on the ball of your foot. Surprisingly for my wife the foot pegs can be adjusted back so that a 5' tall person can reach the foot pegs on this longer kayak, where her shorter Perception 9 had the peg rails factory mounted so far forward that the foot pegs can't be moved up far enough to where her your legs could be slightly bent to avoid back problems. I also quickly found out that the rear hatch is open to the whole inside of the kayak. To easily solve the problem I just placed a large plastic bag inside and had the top rubber seal hold the top of the bag in place so you now have a sealed compartment. The boat tracks well for the shorter kayaks that can be placed inside an SUV and not have to use roof racks. Good for casual kayaking in medium size lakes and easy going rivers. A longer more streamline kayak would be faster and better for long distance kayaking but then you loose the stability and have a heavier kayak. Added a floatation cushion to the back support to reduce the back pain from the seat. The Kayak is a good value and priced right at Dick's Sporting Goods Portsmouth NH.

So I read almost every review before getting this kayak so i hope this review saves you time. I really like this kayak. It's easy to get in and out of, tracks very well (straight as an arrow and assuming YOU know how to paddle), fast, smooth, storage is perfect for me. I would say I am adding padding to the inner sides so my legs don't press against the side and an elastic band around the mouth to hold my paddles better. The back part of the seat is a little uncomfortable but that is an easy fix as well. Other than that, this kayak is great for all. To go along with this I did get my paddles too long and custom cut it to fit me exactly. Just maybe something to think about. Happy Kayaking!

Rated 2 out of 5 by OutdoorFamily Consider this...
Tired of renting or borrowing kayaks, we bought 4 kayaks during a spring promotion at Dick's. Two are Future Beach Fusion 10s. We have had lots of fun. They are light enough so we can each carry our own for reasonable distances. They are very stable and easy to maneuver. BUT, here is something we did not consider... There is no sealed cargo hold on the fusion. Despite that cargo lid on top, if you put something in the back, it can roll the whole way to the front. With no sealed compartment, water will fill the entire boat, making it more difficult to bail. More important, if the boat tips, the entire boat will fill and become VERY HEAVY. We have had to T-rescue one of our boats twice (teenage boys...) If you have this boat and get in a similar situation, pull the cargo lid off to help it drain. In the future, I will only buy kayaks with a sealed cargo hold for this reason.

Rated 5 out of 5 by for the price a good stable kayak stable, decent price
For the price is a very good stable kayak. I weight 220 and can put it on the van myself, fish in it, etc. We have been on lake erie along the shore with a little wind and it worked very well. I was soar after we went a few hours, but was so worth it. Eventually I may sell it and move to a big boat, but this works well for local river, lakes, etc for now.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Timmy B This is my first Kayak
I found I loved kayaking and was tired of renting them. So I found this kayak at the local Dick's. So far I am very happy with it in the water. When not paddling it tracks pretty strait. The rentals I used seemed to just go what ever way they wanted. When I purchased it, I thought the back comportment was sealed. Well after getting it in the river, I noticed it was not. So just be warned. All in all I am happy with my 1st kayak

Rated 1 out of 5 by rod1005 Good kayak but.........
Good kayak, very stable. Hopefully you will never have to contact the manufacturer. I had a few questions about accessories and storage. To date I have sent 4 emails to which i always receive an automated response saying someone will respond in 48 hours. Never have received a response. So... I tried calling the company. I have called service but could never get anyone to answer. Left a couple messages asking someone to call back. Not a word! Called the sales department, i figured sales would talk to anyone! Guess what. No answer no callback. I hope nothing breaks during the warranty period because there is no way to get a claim filed. Wish i had bought something else.

Rated 4 out of 5 by kayakguy Bigger guys may have issues in open water
I bought this kayak about 3 weeks ago. I have taken it out 2 - 3 times per week for about a total of 10 trips so far. SUPER FUN!
I am a short (5'6") fat (250#) man. I find it to be very stable but it does sit low in the water with that much weight in it. I wouldn't recomend if you are much heavier and/or want to bring a lot of camping items as it would get dangerously low. Its fine for going in protected waterways but if you get out in the bays or ocean and are going sideways to the waves you tend to get pretty wet. I'm thinking of investing in the water skirt but am a little worried about the heat factor in S FL. Its only $40 so I may purchase and use only when going offshore.
It handles pretty good. Tends to track a little to one side or the other but not as bad as the pricer one (Ascend) I purchased for my son.
I bought this to do some camping with and am thinking of adding a hatch on the front so that it is easier to get items in and out. Also thinking of puting a rod holder or two on the back (I liked this vs the more expensive model that already had them installed but result in a loss of storage space).
There were many complaints about the seat but I have done up to 3 hours and have been very comfortable. You need to stretch in the cockpit by placing both hands on the gunnals and lifting up your body.
Getting it up on the roof and carying in around is pretty easy.
It shows scratches pretty easily but this is not a beauty contest.
It is a great value and a good entry level unit to buy.
Foot pedals are easy to adjust.
a) I bought an kneeling pad (sold in gardening section of hardware store) and use that to rest the balls of my feet on.
b) Buy a dry bag and tie a rope to it. Stuff this up front w the rope leading to the cockpit so you can easily retreive it.
c) Buy paddle holders when you buy the boat this way you don't have to worry about losing your paddle when getting in out and makes it easier to cary up to the car.

I finally bought a kayak this past May. My first trip out in it was on a river. It handled easily and after getting the hang of manuevering it, I enjoyed the kayak's tracking and stability. My second trip was several weeks later and again the ease of carrying it and paddling just convinced me whjat a great deal I got on this kayak. It was on sale at Dick's so certainly worth the money.
