Rated 5 out of 5 by Nana Fusion 124 I am new to the sport of kayaking, a wheelchair user and bought the wrong boat the first time around. I knew nothing and found a "sit on top" used. Now if I had wanted something for fast water or surf it would have been a great buy, but I want to do more then spin in circles and try to stay upright. I was lucky not to get dunked but my son was not as lucky. Very disappointed. Went home and started doing some research, lots of it. Found a highly rated, budget fishing kayak at Dicks web site, they said they had it in stock so off I go to Dicks. I get there and they are sold out of the model I wanted. Another disappointment. I spoke to the salesman and asked if he had personal experience with the lower priced kayaks and he said that he had used several of the cheaper boats and personally liked the Fusion 124 above all the others, not only that he also told me that one of the guys in the northern store had several and was buying 2 more. Well, I have just returned from a week long camping and paddling trip. I could not be happier with my kayak. I used a stadium cushion for a bit better seat, it tracked well, had a surprisingly long glide despite its width and was so stable I was blown away. The only thing I am not crazy about it the fact that is is a bright yellow, so very visible! Although my husband likes that part. It has been christened "Nana's Banana" Because of my disability there are lots of things I can no longer do, (long distance biking, cross country running, climbing, horse riding) this kayak allows me to recover some of that free feeling I lost when I injured my spine. Its been a long time. July 8, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by kayakguy Bigger guys may have issues in open water I bought this kayak about 3 weeks ago. I have taken it out 2 - 3 times per week for about a total of 10 trips so far. SUPER FUN! I am a short (5'6") fat (250#) man. I find it to be very stable but it does sit low in the water with that much weight in it. I wouldn't recomend if you are much heavier and/or want to bring a lot of camping items as it would get dangerously low. Its fine for going in protected waterways but if you get out in the bays or ocean and are going sideways to the waves you tend to get pretty wet. I'm thinking of investing in the water skirt but am a little worried about the heat factor in S FL. Its only $40 so I may purchase and use only when going offshore. It handles pretty good. Tends to track a little to one side or the other but not as bad as the pricer one (Ascend) I purchased for my son. I bought this to do some camping with and am thinking of adding a hatch on the front so that it is easier to get items in and out. Also thinking of puting a rod holder or two on the back (I liked this vs the more expensive model that already had them installed but result in a loss of storage space). There were many complaints about the seat but I have done up to 3 hours and have been very comfortable. You need to stretch in the cockpit by placing both hands on the gunnals and lifting up your body. Getting it up on the roof and carying in around is pretty easy. It shows scratches pretty easily but this is not a beauty contest. It is a great value and a good entry level unit to buy. Foot pedals are easy to adjust. Hint: a) I bought an kneeling pad (sold in gardening section of hardware store) and use that to rest the balls of my feet on. b) Buy a dry bag and tie a rope to it. Stuff this up front w the rope leading to the cockpit so you can easily retreive it. c) Buy paddle holders when you buy the boat this way you don't have to worry about losing your paddle when getting in out and makes it easier to cary up to the car. Rated 5 out of 5 by bspit24 tough little kayak I would have to say after paddling 3-4 different kayaks that i am very pleased with the performance and ruggedness of this little yak, my brother and i both have one and we abuse them really bad. we drag them over rocks, logs , beaver dams, cypress stumps and anything else in our path with little to no damage except for a couple small scratches. This is also a very stable kayak and is great for beginners or avid users alike.I highly recommend this kayak to anyone!! Rated 5 out of 5 by fishallday31 Owned for 2 years so far... I've had this kayak for 2 years and I use it on average 3-5 times per week year round. I've abused this kayak as much as possible and the only issue i've had is the seat cover over the plastic eventually tore off. If you want a good all around kayak for fishing ponds/rivers/lakes and aren't doing whitewater this is the best value you will find anywhere. I wanted to write this review after i put this kayak through the abuse that i have and confirm this thing will hold up! November 26, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by Ironjehoshaphat Great Kayak, but... For a pre-Father's day activity my dad and I took two of these kayaks down the river for an awesome time. The Kayaks were great. They are sturdy, rugged, and can take a beating. Very simple and easy to clean and transport. One little detail that is the "but" about this review. Why have a "waterproof" lid to a compartment that is not a separate compartment? We placed our backpacks with snacks and water bottles in the aft compartment to only find out that it is not its own space but it is open to the main seat opening. Everything was soaked. Why is the lid labelled "waterproof" when the drain plug is back there? All of the water collects in the rear where this lid is. Just throwing this information out there. June 15, 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by paul Love the boat, hate the company Great entry level boat, stable, easily maneuvered, cheap, durable. I've had it for 4 years and scratched plenty of rocks and it's still going. Although recently a small stress fracture appeared on the bottom where the seat meets the hull. I don't really hold that against the boat, it's been years and I've been hard on it. So I contacted the company to explore options for fixing it..... That leads me to the next part of the review: Future Beach, as a company however gets the 1 star. Over the years I have attempted to contact them regarding accessories and other questions and have never gotten a response. never. You fill out the contact us page on their website and get an automated response saying they will get back to you and simply never do. Call and no matter what department you dial to, an automated message simply says voicemail is full and hangs up on you. During business hours. It's incredible, over years and several attempts (and this is mostly regarding accessories, ie, to spend more money) I have never reached a single person. So, if you buy it, hope you have the luck I did with it holding up, because they are never going to help you. June 24, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by JG49 Fusion Beach 10 This kayak has good width for comfortable leg room where your knees aren't pressed together like on the Perception 9 but I definitely will add the padding also for the sides that touches the sides of your legs. The surprising thing is that the pegs are high where for a person with size 11 shoes you can't place the middle of your foot on the foot pegs or your toes will hit the top of the kayak so you have to have the pegs on the ball of your foot. Surprisingly for my wife the foot pegs can be adjusted back so that a 5' tall person can reach the foot pegs on this longer kayak, where her shorter Perception 9 had the peg rails factory mounted so far forward that the foot pegs can't be moved up far enough to where her your legs could be slightly bent to avoid back problems. I also quickly found out that the rear hatch is open to the whole inside of the kayak. To easily solve the problem I just placed a large plastic bag inside and had the top rubber seal hold the top of the bag in place so you now have a sealed compartment. The boat tracks well for the shorter kayaks that can be placed inside an SUV and not have to use roof racks. Good for casual kayaking in medium size lakes and easy going rivers. A longer more streamline kayak would be faster and better for long distance kayaking but then you loose the stability and have a heavier kayak. Added a floatation cushion to the back support to reduce the back pain from the seat. The Kayak is a good value and priced right at Dick's Sporting Goods Portsmouth NH. August 31, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Heidengm26 Great Boat! I bought this because I was looking for the best kayak for around 300 dollars for my first kayak. This is it!!! I have been using this kayak for three years and have taken it on weekend trips, day trips and full week trips!! It tracks really well and can get some good speed going when long paddles are needed ( I am always far ahead) I have been able to fit a good amount of gear (it would be nice to have one more bungee on the back for longer trips) I have only ever tipped once and that was because some jerk tipped me over, other than that I have done some descent rapids, this is no trick kayak, and taken on a bit of water but it is a boat... you get wet. Also the cup holder may not be essential to some people but to me this was a must! She has been used, abused and has seen some serious fun!! Best thing I have bought for great trips, great people and great floating! I hope this helps you! July 29, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Gina Never let me down yet! I love love love the space and balance of this kayak! The dry box stays Dry unlike some others I have seen. The only kind of bad thing is the weight, this guy is a tad heavy for those log halls. January 19, 2013
