Rated 4 out of 5 by Works Great!! This product is easy to use and works great on knives with small blades(less than 4 in.). Puts a very good edge on pocket knives and other small hunting knives. With larger knives it is difficult to get the knife to stay in the guide without moving. Larger knives tend slip and sometimes fall out of the clamp. The aluminum clamp can tend to scratch the blade on some knives, rubber covered clamps would probably have been better. Ovrall, a much easier and faster way to sharpen small knives. Would have been a 5-star with a better clamp. June 26, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by A failproof sharpening system Overall a good precision system, I would like to have seen more degree of angle options, possibly a 15 degree adjustment for straight razor honing. The system works very well and is of good construction. I'm happy that I purchased it. October 31, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Sets the Edge I bought this to work on an abused high quality knife. It set the edge I had been having trouble with in short time and I was able to finish it to shaving perfection with my usual sharpening tools quickly. Highly recommended!!! The pocket diamond sharpener is an added bonus and works great on serrated edges. October 30, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Smith's Diamond Field Precision Knife Sharpening System Very Easy to use, if you are not some expert knife sharpener this is perfect you cant mess up sharpening your knife with this kit, and very sharp edge! November 26, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Solid kit. Does a good job. Ironically I find myself using the travel diamond sharpening tool significantly more than the system, but that is a matter of my own laziness and not a fault of the system. If you have dull kitchen knives expect to spend a while working on each one, it's not magical and requires a large number of strokes to grind away a bad edge. Again not the fault of the system just a warning that you will have to put a lot of effort into returning cheap dull edges to good form. October 16, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Smith's Diamond Field Precision Knife Sharpening System I think this is an awesome system and am very pleased with it. February 20, 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 by product needs to be refined Each rod will "seat" at a different angle in each honing block, thus not providing a consistent angle to the blade. I modified the threaded ends to remove the "cupping" that occurs when the threads are rolled. I thought by flattening the threaded end it would make the guide rod seat parallel to the honing pad. Nope, it didn't matter. It?s not worth sending it back. January 17, 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 by Too expensive for the quality. It's a decent knife sharpening kit compared to the regular one stage kitchen knife sharpeners that cost around $5. However the price and the quality of the kit doesn't even match up. The extenders that screw into the sharpening stones go in crooked most of the time and they don't fit snug so it throws off the angle a bit. The plastic on the sharpening stones sometimes catch the edge of the blade. I wouldn't recommend buying this for $50. It's my guess that it is truly worth around $20 to $30 range. November 4, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Spend a little extra, get the better one... Smith's Diamond Field Precision Knife Sharpening System is one of the better systems to get your hands dirty sharpening knives with. If you're new to knife sharpening or just can not very steadily hold the right angle to your stone, this is not a bad buy. However, the angle guide pieces are not even on this one, as they are made of plastic and I'm sure some amount of warping has occurred. I'm not a big fan of anything made with plastic, especially something that advertises itself as "Precise"... The clamp on this piece will also scratch any coating off your blade if you're not careful and don't wrap the thing in tape. What they fail to tell you also is that if you're trying to sharpen a larger knife, or something with a little thickness to it, the clamp is pretty well useless. I'm not against Smith's sharpening systems by any means, I think this is a great piece for, say... a pocket knife, or something a little smaller than what I bought for (an ESEE 5). I do wish I had spent the extra money and got the higher end version of this product. If you've got 50 bucks to spend on a sharpening system, you obviously care about keeping your knives in good order. Spend the extra 20 or so dollars and get the better model of Smith's Sharpening System. September 24, 2014
