Meeting Current Needs Purchased these when I got a new canoe and couldn't source locally something that could be fixed to my cargo rails. There were other options available, but these had an additional cut that fit perfectly on my rails. Not sure how long they will last due to the material, because, hey it's foam. Happy for now! Very expensive for what it is Four foam blocks and five nylon straps with buckles and S-hooks. One of the blocks tore after one use. The do not really fit on the gunwhales of my Old Town 146. The buckles on the straps also slid while in use leaving slack in the front and back. I have to secure the straps with a knot, in addition to the buckle. In fact, I now use a ratcheting tie-down strap. This should be used only by an automobile with no roof rack. It was not worth having on my Jeep Grand Cherokee. Two $1.99 pool noodles do a better job than the foam blocks. The idea is good. Execution could be better and less expensive. The storage bag is great. The center strap is a great idea, I've not done that before. The blocks being ambidextrous is a good idea, but perhaps contributed to the torn block. After a few uses, the only part of the kit I now use is the bag and center strap. I use pool noodles cut to size and slit down the long-way, and ratcheting tie-down straps for the front and back. I'll probably use the other parts to hang the canoe from my shed rafters, so its not a complete waste. July 29, 2014
Very Helpful product We used this item to move two different boats. We did lose a foam block (our fault) but we will replace it. July 8, 2014
great Everything was great and customer service was 100 percent excellent June 24, 2014
It works ... Does what it's supposed to do. Only going short distance with it, dont know if I would feel comfortable on highway. The foam seems to wear out pretty quick. May 7, 2014
Yakima is awesome This is a review on both this product, the Universal Canoe Roof Rack Foam Blocks, and the company, Yakima. First, the blocks: I have used this product numerous times, including 3 times at 70MPH for about 3 hours each way. I do suggest using ratchet straps when traveling at high speeds for long distances. The fact is, my plastic canoe, which is very large at about 4 feet wide in the middle and 14 feet long, does wabble a bit with cross winds at highway speeds. There have been times I wondered if it would stay, but this inexpensive solution has worked well for years now. Second, the company: There was a time when I needed to replace one of the blocks. I expected to call Yakima and order a single block and pay for it myself. Yakima was wonderful about it. They told me that they don't sell single blocks, and then they sent me an entire new set at no charge. They stand behind their product, and I appreciate companies that do that. February 13, 2014
worked great and much cheaper than crossbars I plan to use this product on the roof of an suv but this time I was taking the popup camper so I just put it up there and a friend sugested using ratchet straps for added security instead of the pull tight spring straps provided. After the 300 mile round trip I left the canoe on the popup camper for a couple days and the foam did take a set so I advise not to do that and get the load off the foam asap or within reason not days. It works! It ok for the first time users. I have a Nissan Altima with NO racks and it works! July 23, 2013
Canoe roof rack Foam blocks work great. The straps on the other hand are useless. Only used the center strap and purchased two ratchet straps for ends. July 10, 2013
broke The product does function to hold a canoe to a car and protect both canoe and car. The store worker helped me place the item on the car. The foam cracked on 2 of 4 blocks with 1st use while inserting canoe edge. The company has a warranty but advises to return item to the store. I have not yet done so. I do not have much confidence that a replacement will be any better. June 4, 2013
