Rated 1 out of 5 by bad seat The reel handle seat was very disappointing," Broke in front of my eyes". went out on a trip to the lake with my buddies. As soon as i put my casting reel on, the seat busted the fiber glass on the pole and i didn't even put pressure tightening it. I didn't even get to use this rod once.Folks just add 20$ more and get something better and you wont get a headache form this rod. April 26, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by great rod for the price I bought several of these rods back in summer 2014 when dicks was having a super sale (buy 1 abu garcia silver max and get 1 berkeley amp rod for $1) That is by far the best deal i've ever seen. Im currently use both spinning and casting in this rod they work well the sensitivity is really good, very light weight design, and pretty strong, i've caught a lot of 4lbs and a 6lb. But there are some drawbacks 1. the plastic reel seat, if you tighten your reel too much it can crack the plastic. 2. The rod could use more guides but thats me being picky, cant expect too much from a $30 rod. All-in-all the berkeley amp rod is a very good rod for beginners because of the sensitivity and easy hooksets and also a very good rod for such a cheap price. April 1, 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by reel seat is a bad design, handle constantly loosens... very annoying! Great feel in the store for an inexpensive rod, so I bought one. On my first outing, I noticed the handle loosens after just a few casts, so I tighten it up a bit more than I did the first time I mounted the reel. A dozen or so cast later, same deal, handle loosens. After doing this quite a few times, the front reel seat cracked, but the rod was still usable. Turning the rod handle to lock the reel into the front reel seat is a bad design! There are other inexpensive rods out there that expose the blank under the reel, but they have a reel tightening collar in front of the reel and force the reel into the handle. I will NEVER buy another rod in which you turn the rod handle to secure the reel into the seat. Fortunately, I purchased the extended warranty and returning it wasn't an issue even after almost a year of use. I would have returned it sooner, but I misplaced the DICK'S receipt. The blank on this rod is very sensitive, the guides are good too, but the handle is the weak link. Bottom line, you get what you pay for.... do yourself a favor and buy the extended coverage from DICK'S when you buy any rod, It's well worth it. January 23, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by great rod for your buck great rod for 30$ good balance with my pfluger supreme good sensitivity very nice looking rod. (however I ordered two and only got one in the mail) if your looking for a cheap rod this would be a good choice or if you like me and rather pay more for a reel than a rod this would be a good choice seems to be a good rod for 30$ only had it out once so far so good haven't had any problems with it. Rated 1 out of 5 by Don't buy it I got this rod a week ago. Went to a local spot. Usually catch some bass there. Got a hit on a 5" senko set the hook and broke the rod before the first eyelit. DONT BUY IT! You buy cheap you get cheap June 5, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by It broke and I won't be purchasing another one I purchased this rod about 5-6 months ago and paired it with a Quantum Code 860 reel. It felt good in my hands, and was sensitive enough to help me land a few fish that I might not have otherwise caught. I take care of the stuff I purchase, regardless of how much money I spend on it. Today, when casting a custom buzz bait, the rod broke about 1.5FT away from the reel seat. It literally just snapped in half. I have never experienced this with any other rod. Upon further inspection, I also noticed that the reel seat had started to detach from the rod itself. I would not purchase another Berkley Amp rod. May 13, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by can't beat it for a buck Got this rod for one dollar with a Dick's reel purchase online. Love Berkley rods for their workman like quality. They ain't fancy but they are good. A great package deal April 11, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by Great Sensitivity, Bad Construction For a cheaper pole id just go with a Lightning Rod if you have to have Berkley. The reel seat breaks easy on these. Broke in 4 days and read it happened to others. Spend a bit more and get a lightning rod or go to a bass master rod. Shame cause the sensitivity was great. April 7, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by Good price, poor quality & design for the reel attachment, unfortunately you get what you pay for... My son has gone through two of these rods, he really liked the feel and price but after the second one broke I told him that he should spend a little more to get a better quality rod. The reel mounting has broken twice, if Berkley could just fix that one issue they would improve the overall quality. Reading other reviews this appears to be a common occurrence with this rod, people like the feel, love the price but they break easily and quite frankly after very little use. August 16, 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by horrible You get what you pay for, But I at least wanted to get the full $30 use out of it not $10. Attached a Quantum escalade HD baitcaster reel and 3 uses later the housing for the reel fell apart. The plastic detached from the rod. Horrible rod, Didn't even last me 2 weeks July 10, 2013
