Big Water Coombo Ugly Stik has been my choice since I first held onto a rod. I have Ugly Stik"s from 4'6"- 10' and the new 7 footer will fit in where the 10 footer would be too much. April 23, 2013
best rod shakepeare ugly stick rods are the best but the reel on this is really bad 2 fish and it broke the rod is perfect i recommend it for a penn reel April 4, 2013
Just what I needed. This combo workers well for me. Have landed fish up to 30 lb. It was a good buy for what I needed. July 24, 2012
Good rod, OK reel This is a pretty decent starter for people getting into saltwater fishing (or back into it, like I am). Of course, the Ugly Stik rod is pretty much indestructible. I've actually used sinkers that are heavier than the max. 3oz that are supposed to be used with this, no problems. The rod casts decent, and I've been able to haul in a few stripers with it, without issues. The reel is a pretty cheap model, and works ok. I haven't had any issues with tangles on it, but it's only 2 bearing, so the retrieve is not as smooth and quiet as it would be with a better reel. It's one of those types of reels that you expect to use for a season or two and replace anyway. I'd give it 5 stars if the reel was better. August 17, 2011
