Rated 4 out of 5áby emanoh Good Mid volume bag I haven't cycled through dozens of bags in my hiking career, so I can't compare this one to others, but this bag is my go to overnight bag, day hiking bag and gear bag for multi-day car adventures. I own the aspen in all black. I also own other Marmont products and have always found them to be of high quality. The name brand price and over all construction first drew me to this bag. Some of the other posters have given this bag negative reviews based on not having this or that or that the size is small. It's only a 35L bag and meant for short trips and not for multi-week hiking. If you're a serious minimalist you could squeeze a week out of this bag. Yes, it would be nice to have a couple of external mesh pockets. The 35L is pretty much all one big cavity and a creative and experienced backpacker can squeeze a lot out of this bag. The small useless pockets on the lower sides I think are supposed to allow you to carry skis? I've only been able to tuck my tent poles into them and then secure them. I also wish you they were large enough to tuck the end of a sleeping mat while securing them down the side. Yes, there are no hip belt pockets like the website suggests. I do like the upper gear stash and found the compartments to be well laid out, useful and swallow gear. I like the one buckle cinch system for the top lid. The shoulder straps and waist belt hit me in the right places and I'm 6'2". One of the other posters mentioned how the bag cinches close to your body and I concur. It's low profile and you feel secure while on the trail. While the biggest hang up is that it doesn't have external pockets there are plenty of places to hook a carabineer. Personally I don't like a bunch of stuff jostling around outside my pack, but you can engineer some additional storage. October 19, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5áby Jeremy the Bowhunter Great Pack The marmot aspen mountain 35 is a great pack, I'm very happy with my purchase. I had it out today hiking, scouting and gathering wild apples for bait. I had a medium load in it and a full hydration pack, and I had no absolutely no shoulder fatigue. The woods was thick and dense and the pack did not get hung up on things or hinder my movement. I was up and down a lot, even crawling on my knees and I quite often forgot the pack was even there. There is lots of places to hook things on and I really like how the top piece has a few pockets in it. I have most of my survival kit stuffed up into the top piece where it is easily accessible yet not in the way of my other gear. I think this pack would do fine for extended hikes and heavy loads, but I haven't yet tested that so I can't in good conscience comment on that. September 15, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5áby Cedric Holds up FANTASTICALLY! I've had this pack for about 8 years now. I use it every week to carry my laundry. I've also used it on countless weekend camping trips, overnights to stay with friends and family, and at least 2-3 hikes every summer. After all of this the pack still looks like new, with the only sign of wear showing up around the draw string at the top. I wish it had outside pockets sometimes, but I also love how it fits so close to my body when I'm carrying it and I know from other packs that outside pockets tend not to fit like that. Overall I highly recommend this pack. It's very durable and seems for me at least to be the perfect size for a short trip. August 24, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5áby jhik34 Misleading description, lacking features, well constructed I purchased the Aspen 35 anticipating that the pack had waist belt pockets as described here on the site and multiple times throughout the product details. The pack DOES NOT have waist belt pockets. Had a new pack shipped to me promptly to resolve the issue and the new pack also DOES NOT have waist belt pockets. The 2 star review is to reflect the difference in the product that was described to me and the actual product that is being sold. The waist belt feature was a key selling point for me in my decision to choose this pack because it lacks any real external pockets (with the exception of the top pocket) or water bottle pockets (hydration compatible). False advertising aside, the pack is very well constructed with a comfortable suspension system to accommodate up to ~30lbs. Would recommend if you are looking for a decent overnight bag without the need for many features that is very well constructed. Tested with 28lbs on a 22 mile overnight hike through the Appalachian foothills. June 4, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5áby SoSloppy Great product for the Price! Bought this as my first real hiking backpack. I like pouch that can hold my CamelPak and the fact that the pack holds close to my body when hiking. I like to climb under rocks and through bushes and trees when possible, so having a pack fit close to my body and without restriction is a necessity. The only thing i can say bad about the pack is the lack of padding in the shoulder straps. I didn't have a problem over the weekend in Yosemite, but I can see some people wanting more. Great price for what you get! April 17, 2013

Rated 4 out of 5áby Scouting Great for Scout Camping I bought this pack for my son during his first Scout Summer camp trip. He was 9 (but very tall for his age) and it was light enough for him to use and he has been using it on monthly camping/hiking trips since. It is in almost mint condition even though he uses it on monthly Boy Scout camping/hiking trips. It worked so well that I bought one for myself and have been using it on our family camping trips and on weekend trips. I attached sleeping bag pads and portable tables to the side and the sleeping bag fits with bungee straps to the bottom. I have put my hiking tent under top flap. All in all, We have loved this bag.
