Rated 4 out of 5 by Steve Good Bang-for-the-Buck Eureka always makes a "good value" tent. Some of their tents are outstanding, expedition quality, some are good for backyard camp outs, but most all are a good bang-for-the-buck. This Solitaire is no exception. It is NOT an expedition quality, ultra light shelter but, once again, it is worth the money, ESPECIALLY with the discount that Dick's had going on at the time, (and maybe still does). You will instantly want to discard the "steel sevens" tent stakes in favor of some lightweight aluminum or titanium stakes. That will shave off a pound or more. I have read that some people send off for aluminum poles as well, which will shave off another few ounces. It is pretty easy to make this a sub-3 lb. tent, even with the addition of a lightweight ground cloth. It will be quite warm in the summer if you have to deploy the rainfly, but pretty cool if you don't, plus great stargazing. The close fitting fly will actually be a bonus in cold weather. I am a 6' guy, and have plenty of room inside, but your pack, etc, will have to go outside the tent. Not quite as lightweight as some of the higher end tents out there, but FAR less money, even at full retail. Sorry to keep repeating myself, but overall this tent is not perfect, but a great bang-for-the-buck. I would buy it again in a heartbeat! August 8, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great man A very nice tent but... I liked every thing about the tent. It kept me warm on a cold night and is very light and easy to pack and carry. However the second time it was put up, ihere was a crack. The front pole cracked or better described as split. It can be fixed and it held for the night but it could have caused big problems. Probably because its so light.so be careful!! January 27, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Old Scouter Biggest Bang for your Bucks If you need a lightweight tent for backpacking this is the best value out there. Minimal venting does lead to some condensation issues, but the value and ease of use (in my opinion) outweigh that drawback. I have used this tent backpacking in the Grayson Highlands of Southwest VA and various sections of the AT - in Spring, Summer and Autumn. Does the job with light pack weight, small pack size, easy set up. My sleep pad is larger and heavier in the pack than this tent! Also use this tent for quick scout troop overnighters. Save the big tents for long-term camping! This tent is roomier than it looks. I am 6'4" - large frame. I can sleep comfortably in this tent with my backpack inside as well. All seams are factory-taped but make sure to apply your own sealant as well just to be safe. Highly recommend a "footprint" groundcloth to help keep tent clean and avoid any seep-through from really wet ground. November 6, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Bigdaddy Great tent Great tent, super light and functional. Plenty of room for a guy at 6ft 190. October 26, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Jayo The best choice for backpacking Surprisingly roomy for a solo tent! I am 6'3"; 275lbs and fit myself and a 5,000 cubic inch capacity backpack in this tent and slept well without feeling cramped or claustrophobic! Easy set up and take down. Packs small and light. Totally waterproof....in humid weather you will get condensation with the fly fully covering. My Other tent is a Eureka! Tetragon 8 That I can stand fully upright inside. I love the quality and durability of both tents. Each is perfect for thier respective intended uses. July 4, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Jennifer101 Great tent!! It's well made, very lite and was super easy to set up. July 16, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by G-Ray Not a bad little tent I needed a lite weight 1 man tent for a 2 day canoe trip. This tent did not disappoint. It was easy to setup and take down. I?m 6?2? and 225lbs and like to roll over often while I sleep; this tent had plenty of room for me. I kept the rain cover rolled up to enjoy the nice breeze while avoiding the bugs. This tent is NOT free standing so you must stake it down but that was not an issue. This tent will work well on my upcoming backpack trip. June 10, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by JimD Over night Review After purchasing this tent, as with ALL products i set in up in my yard to spent the night. I recommend you do this with this tent. Setting it up for the first time in the dark or fading light could be a chore. Once done it becomes a simple task. There was a light dizzle during the night, but the inside of the tent remained dry and secure. I don't know if that would be the case with a driving rain as the fly at the enterance allows a small gap at the bottom. You may want stronger tent stakes in a high wind. Will set it up under those conditions to see how it fairs. I used a thick cushion 3 1/2" under my sleeping bag which limited the space inside, recommend a maximum of 1". I recommend a quality pad and bag only. Entrance and exit is trickly until you do it several times. Packes nicely and is light wgt. November 15, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by NH Hiker Glad I got it This is my 3rd Eureka! Tent and I currently own 3 Eureka! Sleeping bags. Always good dollar value. Customer service has been satisfying. With that said. This tent is intended for grandkid(s) and my use when I go on solo backpacks. I have only used it once so far, but am very pleased. I am an average size male and was comfortable with a 70 liter pack at the foot of the tent. I like the sewn in fly. It is easy to roll July 23, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by dirtysocks dont believe bad reviews Great backpacking tent. I have had mine for 7 years and refuse to get a newer one. I have used it roughly 30 to 40 times in all conditions. Easier to set up than my friends rei solo and costs half as much. Got wet on 2 occasions when water pooled around my tent but that would happen to any tent. Not roomy but it is just for sleeping and fitting into a back pack. One of my poles finally split but ductape fixed it well enough for my last to trips. Dont believe the negative reviews. It is a high quality tent for what it was designed for. I will likely buy it again when it wears out. July 18, 2011
