Rated 5 out of 5 by Debbia Future Beach Spirit 120 Kayak in Tangerine I love my kayak. I purchased it last year. It is so gorgeous. I've only used it once this year. It was still wrapped up from when it was shipped. It had a few gashes on it, I guess from the shipping and handling process. My husband didn't think they would matter, since they weren't all the way thru the plastic. I had knee surgery last year and really couldn't use it. Anyway, its perfect for my needs. I am a novice at kayaking. But I want to get out there and start paddling around. I think we are going to get a truck for ease of loading and unloading the kayak. It seems a little tippy, but it is somewhat narrow and streamlined. I think with more experience it won't feel tippy. It handled very well on the creek the day we were out. The tangerine color really shows up in the water. I think this kayak will be perfect for me. I just want to go paddling around and explore nature. I don't really want to attempt white water rapids or anything that extreme. I noticed today that shipping and handling for this kayak for online purchase is $120.00. Last year I had to pay $195.00. I wish I could have gotten the lower price last year. It would have been very helpful. I think the kayak price is fair. Other than the shipping cost, I'm very happy with my mega awesome kayak. Rated 5 out of 5 by saywv LOVE this kayak! Have had this for 4 summers.... Still love it. Use it for rivers, so cannot speak for it on a lake. Very stable, glides over the rapids. I have never used the plugs so i always get wet, but no complaints there. Great value but good quality. Way better than walmart sundolphin kayaks, love that it has handles too. Not a lot of dry storage but not a real big deal. May 30, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Cricket Great starter kayak I got this as my first kayak a few years ago. I LOVED it! The only negative I had was it didn't have a lot of storage space. I've since moved into a different kayak but I won't sell this one. I still take it out now and then when I don't need storage. This year my 9 year old started using it and he loves it. Easy to maneuver and great in the rapids! Worth every penny! May 26, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by SusieQ7 Love them! I am just preparing to by my 3rd Future Beach Spirit 120 Kayak. Looking for the best deal possible at the moment. We already have 2 and use them whenever the York River is calm enough and the water is not too cold Lots of wind here, so there are times it's best to wait it out. Even when it is partially calm, this kayak can handle it if you can. It's very stable and confident in just about any water. Even my chihuahua enjoys sitting on the bow (with a leash connected to her harness.. .just in case ) if we are out for long, she will curl up and sleep. I highly recommend it :) April 23, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by txstars15 Just purchased but haven't used I can only comment on the product itself as we just picked ours up and have not yet had a chance to paddle them. The construction is super solid with no side seams. There is a handy bottle holder and the usual elastic bands to secure the day's cargo. The product description pretty much tells it all. I can say that Justin at the Dallas Dick's store was spectacularly helpful and stayed on top of the entire transaction. Just super to work with. When he pointed out the kayaks had just gone on clearance for almost another $100 off, it was a no-brainer! September 20, 2015
Rated 3 out of 5 by stan Good and so-so Futurebeach Spirit120 is not ideal as any product but very decent compact kayak for short rides. I have it for 2.5 years. Since I own 3 more sit on top kayaks here is my take on it. Positive: 1. Fits inside my minivan, I don't need to deal with roof rack loading pain. 2. Plastic is thick and solid - you can touch logs, rocky shore, gravel with scare to break it. 3. Very maneuverable. 4. Tracks well enough for such maneuverable kayak. 5. Has handles to help loading-unloading. 6. Has tiny storage area, but enough for keys and wallet. 7. Has a back seat. Negative. 1. Not as stable as some single sit on top kayaks. For speed you pay by loosing stability, I understand it. 2. Too small for medium and large frame people, you'll be sitting in water (or buy scupper plugs). 3. Storage area could be bigger. 4. Backseat could be taller. Bottom line - good for short rides, easy to get in and out, unsinkable as all sit on top kayaks. July 6, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Jeanne63 Stable and tracks great Didn't realize how terrific this inexpensive kayak was until I tried several other brands and configurations. This is the best...very stable even in choppy water, a breeze to paddle and has held up well in the three years I have owned it. It is well-made and the features, though few, all work as they are supposed to...no useless gimmicks to break. July 4, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by SkyeDragon Solid Stable Boat This kayak is easy to load, tracks well, and is a very stable platform. So far it has proven capable of keeping up with much larger rudder equipped boats on spring runs and lakes. We did purchase a seat upgrade as the original is a very basic back support. June 6, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Clipper A Terrific Value with Room to Grow I rented this kayak at the Juniper Springs run in Ocala National Forest in Florida. I liked it's stability and maneuverability along the notoriously shallow and twisting course of this beautiful wilderness waterway. I looked up the kayak online and was surprised to see it for sale at Dick's Sporting Goods at $269. When I purchased a floor model, they only charged $200! It's a great recreational kayak that benefits from a little improvement. Like another reviewer, I installed a 5" hatch and "fat" bag (Top Kayaker $30.) underneath the existing hatch cover which means there's now a double hatch which never leaks, solves the storage issue, and gives access to the hull. I replaced the rubber stopper drain with a standard 3/4" screw in drain plug ($4) which fit perfectly into the existing hole. I added bungees to the back deck as well. And the cost of those changes still didn't bring the price of the kayak up to the original pricetag. The kayak tracks well and when you lean into turns, the dihedral hull design takes over and facilitates the turn. The reviews of it being tippy and not tracking well are a function of not understanding the design. This is a kayak that's very responsive to lean. The dihedral profile of the hull in cross section means that when the kayak is tilted, the hull shape in the water essentially changes to a narrow V that carves a turn. With a little practice you'll have a boat that is stable, while both tracking and turning well. Just perfect your technique, and I think you'll be really happy with the boat. As for the complaints about leaking, the new hatch fixes the storage leak problem, but there is another leak point. Underneath the serial number plate on the back of the seat is a small air hole. Maybe it's supposed to be a vent, I don't know, but when I fooled around with the kayak in the pool practicing re-entry, that hole let in a lot of water. I plugged it with Sugru from inside the hull when I installed the hatch. This is an amazing boat for the price. I hope you like it as much as I do. (I've been kayaking since 1986, in both recreational and sea kayaks on all US coasts. ) May 21, 2015
Rated 3 out of 5 by Yuhang Solid but tippy Several reviewers said that this kayak was not stable, now I know what they said was true. If you sit just a little bit off the center line, the kayak will rotate around the long axis so that you can see it is not level. This also means that if you just move a bit, it will respond with rotation. I used it once and hated it. I also have a perception tribe 11.5, which is much more stable and also faster. Another problem is that the handles are not located at the center of weight. The front will drop when you lift it. This makes it more difficult for me to load it on top of my SUV by myself. I can manage to load it, but the tribe with molded in handles is much easier to handle although the tribe is heavier. Of course, the tribe is more expensive, but I think the price difference is justified. Basically, you get what you pay for. I think I'll return this one and get another perception tribe. May 18, 2015
