Rated 5 out of 5 by Jackie67 Great, stable kayak Purchased May 2013 on sale for a great price after 1st trip with a friend's tandem. Love this boat! Fits in my Hyundai Sonata sedan with 1 seat down, does hang out but red flag takes care of that. Able to load and unload myself but of course, easier with a partner on each end. Limited storage, don't take anything with me except cell phone, license & credit card which do fit in a double zip lock sandwich bag in the rear well. Use a rope with a closed D ring onto the web carry handle to secure paddle. Quite stable and not too bad getting in and out for a non-athletic grandma. February 2, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by PedalPaddle Update from a year ago, going from 4 stars to 5 This boat just keeps getting better and better. I've had it in bay water, coastal waters, lakes and rivers and it just keeps delivering excellent functionality and fun no matter what I do with it. I'm 5'9" and weigh 190, it's very comfortable. Good back support and feet placement options. It is very stable when getting in and out of it and in the water. It is plenty quick and tracks very straight and smooth. The length and hull design means it is not super nimble in faster water but it is not intended to be used as a whitewater kayak. It has done fine on wider rivers up to a class 3 if you just focus on "shooting through". I have added a bungee system at the rear to attach a small back pack that has a hydration bladder and storage room for food, dry box for cell phone etc., the front bungees are great for a small cooler on longer trips. I only use the dry well for spare rope, fish stringers or basically stuff that can get wet. There are plenty of places to mount fishing poles and other tools (machete', flashlight or go pro camera on the bow tip) with a little creativity. At this price for a recreational floater / fisher needing a sink proof yak I don't think it gets much better. June 24, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by MikeS Beyond expectations First of all, I am not someone who ever writes reviews for my purchases. However, this time I am making an exception as I also found the reviews of this product dead on. I have taken this kayak to the beach and in creeks in the area and could not be more excited. It truly tracks very well, it is very stable (I'm 6' 3", 200 Lbs) and the price is well worth it for the satisfaction. There is a reason that so many people give it such high ratings. It is a great product. July 16, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Softmill Great value! Wasn't sure if kayaking was for us till we tried out this kayak that was owned by a family member. First time out my wife and I took turns trying it and ended up having hours of fun. I have back issues and the molded back rest is great. We have, (since our intro), purchased one each. We are now enthusiasts who try and get out each weekend. We've had the kayaks out in Tampa Bay, the Weeki Wachee river, canals, and tributaries off the bay. Its so relaxing to paddle out a ways then just stop paddling and listen to the quiet. We've seen dolphins arching in the bay, mullets jumping in canals, and manatees swimming past us. Rated 5 out of 5 by mamamia great for beginners I am a 46 year old over-weight woman. My teenaged sons bought me this kayak for my birthday and I love it! Easy to use, fun to use, only problem is: we just have one to share! I definitely am a beginner. (We HAD rented once or twice first to try it.) But owning it is better because we can go where and when we want. I have NOT put it on car by myself yet, but two of us can get it up on top fairly easily and they say it would fit in the back of SUV if I ever went alone. I just love to meander down the river and relax! October 16, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Asapp Perfect I bought this kayak for my 12 year old son to use on the local river and on lakes we visit. He is a big kid, weighing around 160lbs. This kayak was perfect for him. He was able to manuver it well, even on still water. He is a novice kayaker and he immediately was able to keep a straight line paddling, and turn with ease. It's light weight enough for him to load and unload on his own. I also used it on a trip with some friends, letting one of my friends use my 12' sit-on-top kayak that cost $600. I weigh 250 lbs, and was far more comortable in this smaller kayak. The curved seat area is just right to lean back against, which I've found an issue in other sit on top kayaks. Overall, if you are just a hobby kayaker, and not trying to travel white water, and on a budget, this kayak is perfect December 6, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by KayakFreshwater Excellent rough water kayak for fishing Purchased at Dick's, installed fish rod holders, two hatches (one to replace the black rubber one aft) and added life lines to include a paddle holder. The narrow beam, although giving the amateur a feeling of instability, provides excellent secondary stability in rough water conditions. The boat tracks perfectly, is self righting when beam to waves, and is extremely easy to paddle. When hot I swim off of it and this is such a joy. To get back into the boat approach it from the side. Grab the other side of the boat. Do a breaststroke kick and simultaneously pull yourself up across the middle of the boat. Balance for a second and rotate your body lengthwise to be in line with the kayak while twisting from your stomach to your back. Done. Easy once you practice! I can out fish really any motor boat as the motor spooks the fish whereas the kayak is ghostly quiet. September 29, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Rokitlady Excellent beginner sit-on Kayak Happened to purchase two of these beauties just before 4th of July. It was a paddling week in the harbor. We didn't want them for open ocean.. just in the harbor and channels around Dana Point. They are great. They track really well. The storage compartment is a joke, but we never stray far from the boat. I recommend using the scupper plugs...they keep the boat a lot dryer. Just make sure the store furnishes them. One boat came with the 4 scupper plugs taped into the drink holder recess. The other didn't. Now I'm chasing around trying to get four more for the 2nd boat. By the way, the drink holder is an awesome feature. One little problem: the side carry handles often scrape your hands as you are paddling. I'm considering removing them and just use the fore and aft carry handles. July 6, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by McGee No Regrets! Just Do It! Absolutely worth it. Just took out both Future Beach Spirit 120 SOT kayaks. Whether you're a beginner or have some experience with kayaks, these are awesome. We have been kayaking several times, but I wouldn't say we are experienced as we not well versed in the intricacies of kayaking. Went with the general concensus of reviews and purched two. I am a big athletic girl (5'8" 195lbs) and it provided a smooth comfortable ride on a less than calm Lake Erie. It is surprisingly quick for being so big and heavy (and having this "big boned" girl in it too. I didn't use the backrest that came with the kayak. I preferred the molded back of the kayak itself and was able to extend my legs completely straight if I wanted. No leaks anywhere so far. The dry storage stayed dry, but I bagged cell and car keys just in case. I am not the most graceful girl, but was able to get in and out without any problems. I would recommend paddling close to shore and practicing before taking them totally out in the water. This gives you a chance to get use to your weight distribution on the kayak and to check for leakage. Packed these puppies up in the back of my small SUV (put the back seats down and left the tailgate up) using ratchet ties to secure them to seat lock brackets. The tips of the kayaks rested slightly between the front seats on the console. They traveled like this driving home from the store on the highway for a 2 1/2hrs at 65mph. These are very well made solid kayaks that seem as though they can survive a beating. I will write an update later in the fall after the season is over. July 14, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Jan Love It I have this kayak & the Future Beach 10 sit in. I love them both! All but impossible to turn over - I'm new @ kayaking, so believe me when I say this. I've had my little Corgi out with me, jumping around after scary things in the water, & never felt unsteady. We've had them on lakes, rivers and even out in the ocean. The dry storage is tiny, so we use dry bags. Other than that....I wouldn't change a thing about these boats. June 2, 2013
