Rated 5 out of 5 by KayakFreshwater Excellent rough water kayak for fishing Purchased at Dick's, installed fish rod holders, two hatches (one to replace the black rubber one aft) and added life lines to include a paddle holder. The narrow beam, although giving the amateur a feeling of instability, provides excellent secondary stability in rough water conditions. The boat tracks perfectly, is self righting when beam to waves, and is extremely easy to paddle. When hot I swim off of it and this is such a joy. To get back into the boat approach it from the side. Grab the other side of the boat. Do a breaststroke kick and simultaneously pull yourself up across the middle of the boat. Balance for a second and rotate your body lengthwise to be in line with the kayak while twisting from your stomach to your back. Done. Easy once you practice! I can out fish really any motor boat as the motor spooks the fish whereas the kayak is ghostly quiet. September 29, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Sabiar Green Kayak Dick's in Colonial Heights did a great job assuring I had the kayak of choice. Although I ordered an orange Spirit 120 online, through a stocking anomaly, there was a Green Spirit 120 also available. The store staff took action to credit the online purchase so I could obtain the prefered color kayak. Everything was done smoothly and rapidly. The kayak handles well as expected. Good product, great service. September 14, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Deb Comfy but awkward! We have used these a few times, I find it is comfy once your on it. I am only 5'2" and I have to get on in shallow water. I have not gotten off in deep water then had to get back on it. Dotty63 have you tried the roll on method ? Bring your body along the length of it and roll on then pull yourself into the seat? I learned that from sailing school. Now I have 2 brothers who used them one got comfortable and steady quickly while the other felt awkward and unstable, 50 lb difference between them. I like the openness of it and the drain holes. (always splash water on myself to keep cool) Winter time I use my enclosed one! We got them on sale for $200. so I am not disappointed. Rated 5 out of 5 by Holdemsob First time kayaker I'm 63, 6 feet, 240 and just bought this kayak. All I have to say is this kayak is a lot of fun and I wish they had these sit on top kayaks 40 years ago. IBeen on some lakes and down the Chattahoochee, Johns Creek to Roswell. Wife has the 8 ft Pelican and I can't keep her off the water. August 16, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Carys12 Great Steady Kayak This is my first kayak purchase and I am so glad I went w/this one instead of a cheaper model. Went out on a lake today and it was great. Moved through the water smoothly and balance is good. Did not feel like I would tip over any minute like some cheaper models. Very comfortable. Like the center water bottle/cup holder. OK dry hatch but not very big or convenient to reach behind you. Nothing wet but I bagged my cell just in case. The recommended paddle based on height was too short. I tried a longer paddle and it worked much better. Lots less splash inside the kayak and on me. Definitely go w/curved paddle. Would have liked a pink kayak but the green I bought is good. Can't wait to go back! Good exercise and lots of fun. August 3, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by dotty63 So-So I am truly a recreational kayaker. I bought this kayak because I sometimes get a bit claustrophobic in my regular kayak, and I was hoping I would be able to slide off this thing into the water, or flip it, and then climb back on. One thing I dislike about kayaking is that I always want to be IN the water, not in the kayak :) I'm 51 yrs old, 5 ft and about 148 pounds. The foot rests fit me fine, which is often difficult for someone so short. I enjoy having my legs free to catch some rays,, and it's cooler than regular kayaks. I have only used it on non motorized lakes, and it's fine for that, not sure how it would handle in choppy water. I've tried a number of ways to pull myself on to this thing, and so far I've not found a way to do it, but have become very bruised trying :) I'm sure someone with more upper body strength would have no trouble, and I may soon figure out a way to do it. I've got the same cons as most others have mentioned, the handles are not in the right place, the drywell, in addition to being too small for any purpose, does not stay dry at all, but all I keep in there is some rope. If you really want your phone or camera, have a waterproof case. I find the seat comfortable enough, but I have no back issues to speak of. I do find that I greatly enjoy just paddling out to the middle of some non motorized lake, and just hanging out in this thing, brought a book with me one and a glass of wine. All in all, because I got it on sale, I'm ok with this purchase. August 2, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by BC Great Kayak for a beginner This is my first kayak and I love it! I haven't had problems with tracking or anything but I am still learning so we will see. The price was great. One thing I would want different is a larger dry storage area. Other than that, LOVE it!!! July 24, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by McGee No Regrets! Just Do It! Absolutely worth it. Just took out both Future Beach Spirit 120 SOT kayaks. Whether you're a beginner or have some experience with kayaks, these are awesome. We have been kayaking several times, but I wouldn't say we are experienced as we not well versed in the intricacies of kayaking. Went with the general concensus of reviews and purched two. I am a big athletic girl (5'8" 195lbs) and it provided a smooth comfortable ride on a less than calm Lake Erie. It is surprisingly quick for being so big and heavy (and having this "big boned" girl in it too. I didn't use the backrest that came with the kayak. I preferred the molded back of the kayak itself and was able to extend my legs completely straight if I wanted. No leaks anywhere so far. The dry storage stayed dry, but I bagged cell and car keys just in case. I am not the most graceful girl, but was able to get in and out without any problems. I would recommend paddling close to shore and practicing before taking them totally out in the water. This gives you a chance to get use to your weight distribution on the kayak and to check for leakage. Packed these puppies up in the back of my small SUV (put the back seats down and left the tailgate up) using ratchet ties to secure them to seat lock brackets. The tips of the kayaks rested slightly between the front seats on the console. They traveled like this driving home from the store on the highway for a 2 1/2hrs at 65mph. These are very well made solid kayaks that seem as though they can survive a beating. I will write an update later in the fall after the season is over. July 14, 2014

Rated 5 out of 5 by mjv1008 Perfect for Amateur Kayakers Couldn't be happier with this kayak! Took it into the Gulf of Mexico over the holiday and it handled great! I'm a 5'7 female and I was also able to lift it by myself. Helps when you're stuck loading alone! July 8, 2014
