Great for Scouts!
I bought this for my nephew, the Scoutmaster for a Boy Scout troop. He and his son will be going to Upper Michigan this summer for a camping trip in which they have to hike in to the location. He needed a lightweight stove to carry in because they have to boil their water AND cook on it. He tried it out last weekend, said it works great, and doesn't use much fuel. Definitely a hit!!!

as good as any
used the first time on a 4 day backpacking to the Smoky Mountains in Feb. The temps dipped into the mid 20,s on two nights and the mid teens on one night. The Whisperlite performed flawlessly. It is compact, easy to light, and boils water quikly. And if you tinker enouh with it you can get it to simmer--just takes little practice.

10 years and still running
I've had the same stove for over ten years and it is still going strong. Light weight and reliable make it my choice. My only recommendation is to give it a trial run before each season prior to heading out.

good stove, practice before hand
MSR bottle type cook stoves are not as simple as the screw on the bottle and light. This stove needs to be primed and tended with your full attention for the first minute, after that is great. the weight vs. fuel issue makes this my chose. Much longer burn time with MSR fuel bottle vs screw on, based on weight.
