Perfect for it's target group. This is a great little combo. The best deal I found yet for kids looking to step up from those very cheesy and annoying Barbie poles. I have been out with the kids several times now and not one complaint. I gave it a try myself and found it easy to use and predictable. August 1, 2014
Stay Away Bought this for my 5 year old for a fishing derby - the reel broke within the first hour of using it! (I see that it happened to someone else as well.) I would have expected more from the Shakespeare brand, very disappointed. I have nephews who have Mickey Mouse combos that have lasted years without any problem. Too late to return as well. Great Rod not so great reel Bought this for my 6 YO daughter, the Rod is great. The reel lasted about 3 hours at most. Replaced the reel with a Zebco 22 Ladies.... And Cajun line, since no one makes pink line red would have to do. Very impressed with this setup. Easy to cast, maintain and maybe more importantly hard to break. She has caught a lot of sunfish, panfish and the likes with this combo. September 29, 2013
Good for kids! This is perfect for my eight year old daughter. It is easy for kids to use. September 17, 2013
great for a beginner great for a beginner, my 4 yr old daughter had a blast with it bought this for her first fishing pole September 3, 2013
Fun Rod Fun rod for my little girl to use. Easy to cast and reel September 2, 2013
Great Rod for the Kids! This rod is great for kids. It is very durable and takes a beating. It is also the perfect size for them to use for several years and it lasts. The only downfall is the reels. The reels that come with this combo are completely useless. They do not cast well, do not retrieve well and all three combos I bought the reels broke during the first use. For the price, it was worth it to buy this combo and then just replace the reels. May 28, 2013
Great for a beginner I bought the Shakespeare Ugly Stik Junior for my daughter who is six years old. I had previously bought her a smaller one with only two eyes and it did not work as well. I let her practice in the yard before I took her fishing to get use to how to cast it. We went fishing and it worked well. We could cast it a long ways and she had fun reeling in those 7 fish she caught on her first outing. May 28, 2013
great rod, not so good reel I was looking for an ugly stick that was small enough for my 3 year daughter daughter to graduate from those cheap cartoon character rods. I like the size and quality of the rod for a young child. I bought this with the intention of switching the reel since the reel that comes with it is really cheap. I would only recommend this if you don't mind spending $15 to replace the reel. May 26, 2013
Not worth the money Bought this fishing pole for my daughter. Got it home tried showing her how to use it and it just fell apart. I buy alot of Shakespeare fishing poles and this was the only one I had a problem with. Took it back and got a different Shakespeare set up for my daughter and it works great. April 30, 2013
