Rated 4 out of 5 by very smooth reel we used these reels last weekend??love the smoothness of the mechanics of the reel??and it's very quiet?..maybe that's why we caught 14" trout?..!! Deb from Maine June 17, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by always a great choice smooth and reliable. not alot of bells and whistles to break. June 10, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by The 1000 was a bust! Bought the 1000 after having the 500 sienna. I thought it was time to upgrade my ultralight setup. First time out it was stiff, grinding, and didnt work right. Took it back and tried a few more in the store, same thing. Maybe a bad batch? Bought the abu garcia cardinal sx instead and couldnt be happier, and it cheaper! May 29, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Shimano Sedona FD Spinning Reel Bail Sticks I just purchased two new Shimano Sedona 1000 FD Spinning Reels and had new line put on at the store--one to replace an old reel and the other for a new rod. After I had purchased the reels a salesperson at a different store mentioned this Shimano Reel had a problem with the bail sticking. When I got to the lake to fish, the bail was sticking so bad on one of the new Shimano reels that I needed both hands to close it. The second new real was a little better but still would also stick. I was borrowing an older Shimano Sedona 100 FD Spinning Reel and rod from a friend and I was really surprised the drag was grainy and not smooth. The old reel I was going to replace performed better than both the new Shimano Sedona reels. I was initially tempted to get an other brand with more bearings and good reviews but chose this brand because of its popularity. I am very disappointed and would definitely not recommend this product. If you decide to buy it before your trip test it out first and possibly bring some lubricant. Its very frustrating when the fish are bighting like crazy and your bail won't close--especially with a brand new reel that isn't cheap. May 23, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Not as good as the first one i bought I bought one 5 years ago and it works great. Not as good as the first one i bought making another combo and it just spin as good as old one. feels cheaply made:[ May 21, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Nice reel at good price point Excellent reel. Good long casts and very smooth retrieve. Gave it quite a work out. Have used it wading and it even performed after getting dunked a few times. May 21, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best bang for the money! Absolutely love it! Teamed it with a Berkley Shock 6'6", great combo May 20, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Defective Unit Very disappointed, as I had hoped this reel would be smooth as glass. Instead, it grinds as line winds towards the bottom of the spool. Did this out of the box. In addition, I found a lock washer loose in the packaging that belonged inside the handle assembly. When I discovered it while paying for the purchase, I went back to the fishing department and the salesperson, using the display model for reference, put the lock washer back in the assembly. But I was skeptical of the entire assembly after that, and definitely should have asked for a different unit. Now I'll take this back and perhaps not even get another Shimano. I was however, impressed with the casting and with the way in which the line always fell right into the line roller after flipping the bail back after casting. Never any birdnesting. So that's a good thing, but maybe all non-budget reels have this ability. Who knows? May 14, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Shimano Sedona Excellent reel for freshwater! Highly recommended. May 6, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by OK. Lightweight gear. The screw that is used to keep the handle in place has a plastic outer shell which gives this reel a cheap feel. The screw also loosened several times while I placed line on the reel. I'm pretty sure it will work great, but I am skeptical of the longevity and overall wish I spent a couple $$ more to get a solid piece. March 26, 2014
