Pretty good
I got this as a christmas present one year as my first and so far, only fly rod. It has been submerged entierly underwater on many occasions and yet still manages to land good fish every time i use it. However, i have one gripe, and that is the flies included. I know most fly fishers go for trout, but couldnt they at least have a popper or bass bug in there? But, besides that, its pretty good.

Awesome Starter Kit!!!
Ths was my flirst fly fishing set up ever. I live next to the chattahoochia in Georgia and have seen LOTS of fly fishiers but always stuck with my spinner. I took notice to the amount of trout and size this one gentlemen had when wading in one day and was astonished. Im IMMEDIATELY had to learn to do this. Mind you I am on a FRUGAL budget. Sp I checked out this and a few others at Dicks, and loved that it came with EVERYTHING you need, well besides the waders and fly's that are hacting particular area. So I got some extra leaders and fly's. once I learned to cast ( friends w/ video camra n internet resources) I went fishing a few times but didnt know too much about reading a river and where trout hide. So nothing. Yesterday my friend and I went out on a canoe and found those spots where the trout are waiting for food, and I caught one with this setup!! The rod and weel weight being (5-6) is a very versatile size. The only thing I wasn't so thrillred about it was the Fly Line, not being a Weight Forward to help newbies like myself cast.... I replaced that and am LOVING iT. The only thing I would say is to get some different fly line and some looped knotless leaders. I would also look at some flies that are very popular for the area and fish you are fishing. Also, [@] had this same set for [$].

problem out of the box
The rubber grommet or tensioner that makes each rod section secure when assembled was cracked out of the box and the rod tip will fly off if you try to cast. Dick's was great in giving a refund; but, I was very surprised that Pflueger does not even carry repair parts and requires a payment before you can send an item for repair....for postage and packaging, I suspect; but, it CAME defective. Anyway, good idea gone bad; I'm buying another rod entirely.

Great Beginner Fly Combo
My 12 year old son needed his own fly fishing gear to get his fly fishing merit badge. I wanted to get him something that was not junk. I did not think I would be able to get a combo this good for this price, but I read some good reviews. When the combo arrived, I was impressed with the rod and reel quality. The reel is all metal and feels great. It comes with backing, fly line, tapered leader and some flies. I bought some more leaders for extras, he will probably go through a few. I want to try this rod out when he is back from camp.

Good for beginners
The best part was the instructions on the back of the package tohelp get the rod/reel ready for use.

Decent starter combo
Bought two of these to to get the grandsons started fly fishing. These are simple, no frills sets. We did have on pole snap but Dick's replaced it with no issues. The line is of the "level" type which does limit casting performance but then again, a good tapered line costs more than this whole set. The reel is all metal and looks like it will give years of good service. All in a good value.

Great casting Fly combo
I use the fly combo everyday i am fishing the rod is with me. I talked to a fellow fly fisherman who fly fishes for bass were i live and he sead" it is a wonful prefect casting fly rod" for me, also he sead" it is a good fly reel to play with"he is a person who i look up to for addvice.I never like to say bad things about anything i biy. Even if someone sead "that looks like [*] gear youu got"... and i am here to say it is good for "experementing with" it is good for 3-5Lb Bass but i don't like to brag but i have landed a 4-4 and 1/2 Lb bass with the 5/6 wight rod without geting tied. In all the fly combo works for 100% out of !00% a 10/10. It is good also for peple who just don't care if they only sead $20-$40 for a fly rod for a fly rod it is all about Fun and enjoying what you love.
