Rated 4 out of 5 by Coach The design of this whistle helps when you have to coach and ref at the same time.
I coach/ref a lot of novice 3rd - 6th graders and this whistle allows me to make a quick whistles opposed to finding the whistle hanging around my neck or keeping in my mouth which makes it hard to communicate to the kids.
With the hanging whistle I found myself not calling as much, thus not correcting as often which made the game much sloppier. This way we can stop play and correct the mistake and in most circumstances still allow the offense to keep the ball on the first offense within that possesion. Great teaching tool.
I am a fan of the ball whistle and it takes a little practice to get a good whistle sound without the ball.

I thought it didn't work at first, but I was being shy - the pealess whistles just need a quick, sharp breath to sound off and you can't miss it! These beauties helped us to direct participants in the 2013 Ross Hollywood Chapel Veterans Day Parade, and the 1,700 marchers definitely respected the whistle!

Rated 5 out of 5 by RJ18 Fox 40 Two Finger Referee Whistle makes an A grade for Soccer games
The Fox 40 Two Finger Referee Whistle is an excellent all-purpose whistle for outdoor or indoor. It is perfect for High School games and all USSF soccer games.. I have been using this finger grip whistle for 5 years now in OHSAA and USSF soccer games and tournaments. I always have 2 of these with me at all times when refereeing games. I carry a backup in my bag.
The sound output is excellent. It is easy to increase pitch and loudness for the more excessive and flagrant fouls. The two finger grip is addictive. After I tried this whistle 5 years ago in a tournament USSF outdoor soccer game, I never wanted to go back or look for a different whistle. I highly recommend it to all Soccer Referees!

This whistle is used to referee games. Few if any players can hear it regardless of how well it is used.

I am a roller derby referee, and I LOVE this whistle! Mine has been dropped, skated over and still works fine. Tone is clear and REALLY loud- loud enough to be heard all over the track even with a shouting crowd. I highly recommend this!

I recently purchased 2 of these cause I had to have it and didnt have time to wait on 1 to ship from another company which is abt 5.00 cheaper for the same exact whistle. I suggest to look around if u have time to wait.

Seems like good quality....but not for on the ice...not a ice hockey sound.

We bought this whistle for our son's hockey ref school, but it sounds like a toy whistle from a cereal box. It is totally made of plastic and doesn't live up to the Fox 40 reputation. You should carry the metal version for those serious about their referee duties.

Just about every soccer referee in the state of Minnesota has a Fox 40 whistle. They work well, and have a good sound that can be heard across the field. I like the two finger design because it keeps the whistle better on hand than a lanyard, in my opinion.
