Great for Beginners
But watch the crotch! My 4 year old little girl complained no matter how lose I tethered the crotch piece. When you use the vest without attaching the crotch piece, the vest rides up and bunches at the shoulders.

great vest
I got this vest last summer for my daughter - she was 2 1/2 at the time. We have a neighborhood pool and it was perfect for playing at the pool! It is not too bulky, like boating vests. The neoprene did not chafe at all - she loved wearing it. It is not as buoyant as the boating vests, but it was plenty of floatation to help her learn to kick and use her arms to direct herself, and I didn't feel like I had to be right next to her all the time. A little freedom. I plan to buy another one this year, so she can jump in the pool and play even though she is not a strong swimmer yet.
