Rated 5 out of 5 by jrfritz247 Great propane lanteran
These are the best propane lanterns our Boy scout troop has ever used. Parts are easy to get and change when necessary. I recommend coleman products across the board. We have tents that we have been using for 12 years and our twenty year old stoves are just now starting to be replaced. You cannot go wrong with Coleman.

Rated 4 out of 5 by TB It is what it is
First one I purchased would not light with the "instastart" feature. Had to use a lighter. Exchanged it for another which works perfectly!
Some of the plastic parts are cheap. Should have been metal, (in my opinion). I would have paid a few bucks more for a sturdier unit.
Base does NOT fit "Coleman" propane tanks! Opening in base is too big! Not sure what they were thinking. A little paper or "filler" fixes this, but shouldn't have happened in the first place.
I would buy another, unless I found a better unit, even at a slightly higher price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by West Bradford Tim Reliable instant lighting during power outages
Very reliable and was extremely useful for our recent three-day power outage . After this winter I believe everyone should have one in their home . I personally have three and was using them all during our ice storm.

We bought this lantern to replace one that was 15 years old, and suffered an accidental cross threading of the propane tank (user error). When I got it home, I had already read many reviews, and reported problems from the factory. I first repositioned the mantles, so the wires didn't interfere with their operation, then made sure the lighter was giving a reliable spark. Next, I pre-seasoned the mantles by lighting them with a lighter (no propane yet), and letting them burn in. Once the mantles burned out, I then carefully reassembled the lantern, screwed on a tank, and, it lit on the second try. The one thing I am not happy with, is the base. Just like our previous lantern, most of the time when you pick it up, the base falls off. I can't believe as long as Coleman has been making lanterns, they haven't come up with a more reliable base attachment method. But, for the price, you get what you pay for, and, with proper care and use, these lanterns will last many, many years.

Rated 3 out of 5 by CarolT Frustrated with my "good buy"
The other reviews tout the merits of this lantern. Its biggest plus is it is very bright. I have a few cautions. I bought it as an impulse right before a trip because it was pretty cheap, as an add-on to another older lantern so we would have two in case the new fuel pump I put in the old one didn't work right. I should not have worried; the old lantern works perfectly. But I took this one anyway. Here are the cautions: One--Be sure to buy extra mantles beyond what comes with the lantern! Of course you should always have extras, just common sense. But you might not think of it since mantles come with it. The first time I fired it up one of the mantles tore because of how it was positioned by the factory. Tore a hole before its first use. Also, use different mantles than the ones with the metal prongs that are supposed to twist around each other but might not work properly. Use the tie on #21 or the instaclip. One of the ones that came on the lantern came undone, and poked a hole in the other. Two--Figure out something to hold the propane tank in the base so you can move it with one hand. When you pick it up by the handle to move it the bottom just drops off, and if you put it down without the base, it will tip over. I just tried it with a sock and that worked but a few foam pieces or something else more permanent and water resistant would be good. Three--beware. The plastic case will not protect your glass globe in the event of a bump. I have carried my old lantern in a plastic case and in a foam sleeve for a hundred miles of portaging and rough care, and never broke a glass globe. This one broke getting in and out of the car, maybe bumping against someone's knee?. In other words, in its maiden voyage, this lantern had non-functional mantles, and now has a broken globe. So much for my economical impulse purchase.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Bucket Good Lantern for price
Lantern is very bright and easy to transport. This one also comes with a hard plastic cover so the glass globe doesn't get broken while transporting ie. "QuickPack". The Electric "InstaStart" is the only problematic part of this lantern, it is supposed to spark and ignite when you turn the nob all the way, I often need to try 3 or 4 times to get the thing to light. I think the Coleman with the push button light works a lot better if you can find it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Coleman is great Great Product, high price
I always try to get Coleman products since I know them and they have always made a great product or given great customer service when the product broke. This is a great easy to use lantern and brings me back to my Scouting days. I however only went to Dick's because I had a gift card, as usual I found the same product cheaper elsewhere.
