Rated 2 out of 5 by Hippie66 Decent, but not enough to keep toes warm
I bought a pair to wear with my waders for winter kayak fishing and wade fishing for trout. They are OK, but not enough to keep my toes warm when temps are below freezing or wading in the Lower Illinois River. They might be ok along with silk liners and foot warmers.

My husband loves SmartWool socks. He often works outdoors in freezing temperatures and goes hunting in the winter and these really keep his feet warm and comfortable. They are a little pricey but worth it.

A nice thick, warm, comfortable sock. Definitely recommend for the cold winter.

They feel super thick, but they stretch a little thinner when worn. This is a great sock for stand hunting and stalking on those cold days. It is the only over the calf hunting sock that smartwool has. If you want a thinner over the calf sock, don't be afraid to search their skiing or snowboarding line. All of my smartwool socks outlast my tee shirts and jeans, and keep me warm even when wet. The price tags are a little scary, but worth it... Especially if you can grab them on sale.

5 Stars across the board except for price. Hard to find so buy extras when you fiind them.

Quite possibly the best cold-weather hunting sock ever - and a great value: 3 seasons ago I purchased my first pair of these because I was disappointed with how other name-brand hunting socks I'd tried over the years retained their shape/fit. To-date that first pair fits (and looks) almost as good as the day they came out of the box whereas most of those other brands became shapeless rags after only a handful of wearings and washings. I would recommend these to the all-day stand sitter or the the all-day tracker and they're an especially great wader sock on cold duck hunting mornings.

Fits very well. The sock is very warm without being overly bulky like your traditional 100% wool sock. Keeps it form around you calf and does not slink around your ankle as the day goes on. I have read some reviews stating it is very tight in the calf but that has not happened to me. I am 6 feet tall and 200 lbs and active so I would say I have average circumference calfs. I wear size 12 in all my dress shoes and boots and I went with the sock in size Large, men's 9-11.5; the XL heel pad was up on my achilles and fit a little loose. I bought 2 pair for this upcoming Minnesota and Wisconsin deer gun season. Buy them when you can because they are hard to find in stores! The only negative is that they pilled up a little while wearing some duck boots where the top of the boot rubbed the sock.

I got these for my cowboy boots because the top of my boots where rubbing my leg and causing it to turn red. These socks not only prevent that but also fill up any empty space in my boots and makes them more comfortable. These socks are awesome.
