A couple of years in and I have had to replace all the bolts and the plastic caps to remove the rack without tools have all failed. Not an awful rack but I will replace with something that will last a bit longer. I use my kayak all year so I never take the rack off and it is outside most of the time. I am sure that this is a large part of the problem but I have an older rack on the other side that is still in better condition than the swiss cargo rack. I will not say I don't recommend but I would think it would work better if you parked inside or removed during the off season.

Good quality product. Was much cheaper than other brands, but still seems like a solid product. I especially like that it can fold down flat. I originally bought some j-cradles, but quickly realized i couldnt park in my garage with those installed. Glad Dicks let me return those and get this product.

This product worked great. Had to buy better ratchet straps to hold it on.I hauled two kayaks 1 1/2 hours both ways, and didn't know they were on my roof.I used it on a 99 Chev. suburban.I used OEM roof rack.Other reviews said hold down bolts were to long, so I trimmed about a 1/4 inch off bolts.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Minnie OK, but
The rack itself is not bad. If you use a recreational kayak that's not as sleek or shallow as other kayaks you might find the kayak doesn't fit as neatly as it should. On our first trip the load straps kept coming loose and ultimately we had a kayak fall off the vehicle. Suggest you invest in good straps.

Rated 5 out of 5 by WrightatHome Great Product!
My boyfriend and I bought this carrier to carry two kayaks from Northern Virginia to the Outer Banks, NC and back. We decided to follow other reviewers suggestions and bought our own ratchet straps for $20, just in case. It worked perfectly! The kayaks did not fall off on 95 and we were able to get them down and back. We used the ratchet straps as well as the black straps that came with the carrier. Next time I think we will just use the ratchet straps since the black straps made a lot of noise when the car was traveling 70+mph. I wish the screws for the carrier did not face down, they left an indent in the top of our car. Keep an eye out for that, might want to put a small piece of foam between the carrier and the top of the car to prevent that. At the end of the week we got back home and were removing the straps and a little gust of wind pushed one of the kayaks off the car. The kayak bounced off the ground and was fine, but it did take off the car's mirror.... So be careful! Do not leave the kayak unattended on top of the car if it is not attached!

Rated 5 out of 5 by KaKaKayak If only it locked to my roof rack
....then it would be perfect.
I use the carrier with 2 ratchet straps securing my kayak to the roof rack. My kayak does not sit the in the most aerodynamic position. My gas mileage was definitely affected.
