Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 80 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great reel This is my 4th Sabalos spinning reel, and own both the 3000 & 3500 models. I use them for Surf, boat, and Kayak fishing and they have held up well against the elements. The drag is smooth and well sealed. January 21, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Was impressed at first - but don't believe the dunkable claim Initially thought reel was great. After fishing for a couple of seasons - boat, kayak and surf fishing - the reel isn't holding up as well as hoped. Have experienced bubbling of paint/finish on two reels. Always fresh water rinse, wipe down and reel magic or pledge after each use. Two reels suffered short dunks in the salt water. Rinsed thoroughly with fresh water, reel oil and corrosion block - still beginning to lock up. I would say for the price, they are good reels, but the claims of handling the worse saltwater fishing conditions do not hold true. May 2, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Not Bad For The Price I've been using these reels on the Flats Blue rods for a couple years & really have no major complaints. I'm pretty rough on the gear & they've held up pretty well, just need to be cleaned well after use in saltwater, especially if they get wet. If left with saltwater on them they tend to show signs of rust around the plastic plate on the back of the reel. I have used the 3000 & 3500 series of this reel from small trout on the flats to huge snook under the bridges with no problems. March 27, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by sabalos about to buy this reel for a friends birthday to match the inshore wright and mcgill flats blue rod, and ive heard its a pretty decent reel thus far. Let me just tell you guys a little bit about caring for your reels after salt water use. DO NOT soak them in fresh water. Even if you dip them in on accident. Do you soak your guns with fresh water after shooting them? Then dont do it with a spinning reel, even if u do drop it in water. All you need to do is get a bottle of windex, with only an inch and a half full of windex, then fill the rest with water. Spray all your reels down with this, on mist of course, and you will be fine. Also oil them every few times u use them and they will hold up fine. The reason for the windex is the ammonia attacks the corrosion, the water helps flush it out a bit, and the alcohol makes it all evaporate with soaking the inner components inside the reel. Rated 1 out of 5 by Watch out! Initially I thought these were great reels. Great price, smooth drag and very pretty. Well after owning not one but SIX sabalos reels(3000,3500, 4000 & 7000) over the past year I can tell you they are absolutely junk. Give them four months tops and your reel won't be smooth anymore, it just won't work at all. I could take pictures and show you how little these things can stand up to salt water. I've exchanged them multiple times with the warranty but it's the same deal every time. A few months down the road after spraying them off after every use and they seize up. I've never even dunked them! At this point I don't want to exchange them anymore(especially since dicks always seems to be out of stock of them). My advice? Wise up and buy a brand name you know you can trust. Shimano spheros has yet to let me down and I own five of them (4000 & 8500's)and they're like an extra $20 over these(the smaller ones anyhow). I've had my one 8500 for a year and it's still as smooth and functional as the day that I bought it, plus the waterproof drag is actually water proof. Not only that but at least you can buy spare parts for the shimano. W&M want you to pay a shipping fee and $35 to get a new reel if anything goes wrong with the one you have. Don't waste $100's of dollars like I did on these junk reels! September 2, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Sabalos AL 4000 Reel Casting and reeling in were smooth. The reel feels good on my 7'6" Wright and McGill rod and the combination of the 2 felt excellent. I will definitely be purchasing another Sabalos reel in the future. March 13, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Not manufactured where the web site states I have not had time to use this reel but it seems to be a nice reel. One of the reasons I bought this reel was because the web site states that the country of origin was the United States. I was disappointed when I took the reel out of the box and saw the sticker that has made in China. I am sure that the reel will work just fine but I was disappointed that the it was actually made in China. January 25, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great castability Love this reel. Fish out of a boat, kayak or shore. The distance I get with these reels are awesome. From a sitting position can cast with ease great distances without spooking any fish. These are all I buy now for casting. January 13, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by awsome reel Great for inshore and ofshore snapper and yellowtailing fishing.also bought the 5000 series one awsome reels January 13, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by best rod and reel combo that don't break the bank I bought this reel. When dicks had its sale going on with the free wright and mcgill flats blue rod. I was skeptical at first reading the reviews but took a chance anyways. Its def my favorite setup for catching everything from redfish to cobia. Its always the first rod/reel i grab when im fishing. I fish 3-4 days a week easily all being saltwater. I can say this reel has out performed anything i have had which includes penn's for casting and bringing in the fish. The drag on it is very smooth. It has never let me down def will buy another one when they go back on sale. ALSO on the maintenance part I hose off my reels after every trip and spray them down with the reel spray you get at Walmart and every now and then i open the back and drop a few things of oil that's it and its going on over 2 years and still as smooth as the day i bought it. ALL the pics where brought in by the the reel and rod combos of are fishing team December 9, 2014
