The North Face Men's Mchaven Down Jacket 4 5 2 2
Great warm coat...could use a few tweaks Great winter coat for the city commuter. Chose this coat over the NF Mcmurdo and the Canada Goose Expedition. It beat out the $100 cheaper Mcmurdo because of (1) the solid black option, (2) the fleece lined cuffs so wind doesn't shoot up the arm, and (3) the wire brim to keep the hood from flopping around when its up. the Canada goose outdoes this parka in every category except price. i couldn't justify $800 for a coat that is just too hot above 25 F. That said, the CG has 625 fill (vs 550), real fur which does have a purpose (not just looks), is made in Canada (vs china). The downsides to this coat are: -the fur flaps in your face a bit (not sized or fastened to the hood correctly) -the material, while water and wind proof, is a magnet for dust and hair so it always looks kinda dirty even when brand new -no drawstring at the waist like the cheaper mcmurdo and all other parkas have (this is only missed when it is brutal cold out but that is the purpose of a jacket like this anyway. -wish it had buttons instead of velco on the zipper flap like the mcmurdo. -kind of constricting when sitting ( would be great if it had a two way zipper so the bottom could loosen for car rides overall, it serves its purpose as a commuter jacket in sub zero weather that occasionally hits Chicago. i wore this on a ~1 mile walk in -10 F (-30 F with windchill) and my core stayed warm. If i lived in MN, WI, ND, SD or northern Canada, i'd invest in a Canada Goose. This is perfect for Chicago, Detroit, NYC, etc. January 16, 2015
