Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 38 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Value This is the 6th Pelican Kayak we have added to our paddle club. These are a great value, very durable, light weight, easy paddling & tracks straight. Love the sit-in style. Comfortable seat. Dicks Sporting Goods maintains a great selection of Kayaks and Paddle Boards and Paddles. September 22, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Excellent value For the price, this is a really good valued kayak. As other reviewers stated, it does not track well in a straight line, but it's really not too bad. Being short and light, it is exceptionally agile and maneuverable. While on a winding small river in Florida, my adult son was struggling with the bends and current with a longer, 12' kayak that tracked nicely in a straight line. Meanwhile, I had no problems navigating the river in this kayak. So, I think it comes down to whether you want maneuverability (get this), or want something that does a better job going in a straight line, but is harder to turn. September 11, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Fun Boat Great boat for the sale price of $199 - I chose this model because of the light weight. It's very easy to get in and out of. My 20lb. dog fits perfectly in the flat stern area - I purchased a pilates mat and cut it down so he wouldn't slip. Did not have a problem loading it onto my car by myself. Does well in quiet water. Backrest is comfortable. July 9, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Pretty good for the price I bought this for my husband, who is a beginner, for Fathers Day. He loves the comfort but it's not as stable as my kayak that has a flat bottom. Also, he wishes the dry well was a bit bigger. It's only big enough to store some keys and maybe a phone....not much else. Overall pretty good for the price. July 5, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great little boat I purchased two of these and they've been great. The little dry bag is in the perfect place for your keys, cellphone (yes, your big phone will fit in it) and watch. What I don't like are: They scratch really easily. If you're kayaking in an area with a concrete launch, lots of oyster beds - anything that could do damage, damage WILL be done. The tide went out while out on our first trip and we grounded out a little several times coming back. Every little impact left its mark. There are few add-ons for this model. Want a skeg? Well you can't have one and it's a shame because with such a fast but flat belly, you spend more time than most would like fighting the shimmies. But for the money? It's probably among the best you can get. June 28, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Sturdy boat, but I question the weight limit... I bought two of these yesterday and put one in the pool to try out how it floats. It was very stable and sturdy for me, but water came through the bailing holes in the bottom into the cargo, foot and seat area. I weigh 201, 49 pounds user the limit, and it still sat very low in the water. The good part is that it was nimble, stable and responded very well to the paddle. If I were 20-30# lighter I probably would have kept them but I decided to return it and seek a boat with a higher weight limit...or one the published weight limit felt accurate. June 21, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by No regrets love it Im no expert... I bought this after kayaking 1 time and being hooked! I choose the sit on top of due to important factors such as wanting a tan and bringing my Yorkie with me. I have been out on several trips now and love it! I've not had any issues going straight or it tipping, even in rough water from passing ski boats, I learned about good water selection that day. Coco considers the hammock in the back her personal domain and enjoys riding there. My only issue is I need to build a little canopy for the dog to give her shade. June 19, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great for Beginners! This is a great kayak for the price. I felt like I sacrificed a very slight amount of stability for a lighter weight, easier to maneuver kayak. With that said, it's a great kayak for a beginner and still very stable. Very comfortable too. I got it on sale and it is a great buy for lakes or rivers with a gentle current. June 13, 2016
Rated 1 out of 5 by Extremely Tippy Purchased the Pelican Stinger 100X kayak for my wife to join me on kayak day-trips to the various lakes and reservoirs in No. California. I chose the sit-on-top version for ease of enter/exit and as a second yak should I want to take a buddy fishing. On the first trip out I immediately noticed her having difficulty in paddling the Stinger 100X, specifically it tracked back and forth with each paddle stroke. I figured this would improve with experience. Her goal was to paddle around and just float while I fished. Even while just floating the Stinger seemed to easily tip from side to side with each little movement. At 130 lbs, I guessed the tippiness might be due to her light weight. We swapped and at 195 lbs it was extremely tippy for me as well. The Stinger 100X has a round bottom which I didn't notice at purchase. Took it back to Dick's and bought the Future Beach Discovery 124F. It has a flat dihedral hull that is very stable, faster and way more comfortable than the Pelican Stinger 100X too. The Discovery is 10 lbs heavier due to thicker plastic on the bottom hull. That's not a bad thing since we tend to cruise it into the shore when we want to get out. The thicker plastic should help it last and keep it from distorting so much on hot days as the Stinger did in the short time it was in the sun. Thank you Dick's for your customer service and standing behind the products you sell. June 12, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great beginners kayak We bought two of them, had to go to two different stores to get them as they are so popular. Very light so easy for one person to handle.Discovered that one had a slow leak and Dick's exchanged it for a new one no questions asked. They are a blast! June 12, 2016
