BBCOR stands for Bat-Ball Coefficient of Restitution. Players at the NFHS or NCAA level require a BBCOR-certified bat for play. In short, BBCOR measures the trampoline effect of a baseball bat.
In the past, when a pitched baseball made contact with an alloy or composite bat, the barrel would flex on impact, allowing the ball to retain some of its energy. This resulted in extra distance on hits.
Traditional wood bats, on the other hand, do not flex on impact, causing the ball to lose much of its energy. The BBCOR standard ensures that non-wood bats perform more similarly to wood bats.
All BBCOR bats feature a -3 drop. A baseball bat’s drop is defined as the difference of the bat’s weight, minus its length.
For most players, finding the right baseball bat depends on two basic factors: strength and hitting style. Certified BBCOR bats are constructed in a variety of innovative materials, each designed to offer maximum playability.
Aluminum alloy, or performance alloy, results in stronger yet thinner bat walls that deliver more “pop” off the barrel. These bats are constructed with a double layer for extra durability and power.
Wood composite baseball bats deliver an authentic feel at the plate. Wood bats are ideal for the cage and training and promote correct batting form. Wood bats can be more easily customized to match your swing mechanics.
Composite alloy baseball bats are built with lightweight material in the handle and a durable aluminum alloy in the barrel. These bats are ideal for reducing vibration without sacrificing “pop” in the barrel.
Composite baseball bats< provide balance and a large sweet spot. This lightweight, durable materials is designed to quicken swing speed and cut down on impact vibration.
