Absolutely killer jacket. Bought it to use for teaching a backpacking class in the late fall in high mountains of Idaho where it can get pretty cold pretty quick. Used it in- 10f weather with a baselayer underneath and shell on top and stayed toasty the whole time. Provides an honestly impressive amount of wind resistance even on the seams. A lot of people claim durability issues but I 've used it climbing, backpacking, and bikepacking for about two years now and it's done amazingly. Well done Mountain Hardwear!

[ This Mountain Hardware Ghost Whisperer UL down jacket is crazy lightweight, warm, and a pleasure to wear! I chose the Dark Zinc color because I think the other colors show the down fill, and do not look as good to me. This jacket has 1000 fill power down, which makes the jacket warm for its weight. Pricey? Yes! Worth it? Definitely! The only real can I can find is the fit. The cuffs need to be much tighter. So n cold gets in.

Love this jacket, incredibly light and packable, breathes great, but still provides some nice light protection against wind or a light drizzle.

OR Employee (Charlie, Product Team)
I am an OR employee and have used prototype versions of this jacket over the past couple years. The fabric works very well at giving both wind and light weather protection AND breathability and stretch. For running, mountain biking and as an `` up- hill jacket '' for backcountry ski touring it is amazing because it adds warmth in cool and cold temps, but breathes enough to prevent overheating so much better than traditional windshells. And it is ultralight and highly packable. Best of all worlds.( It does not replace a rain jacket though. It is water resistant, but far from waterproof.)
5
PNWhiker28
I bought this to try out in spring/summer in Washington and it is fantastic. It's super light weight but does a great job at blocking the wind and light rain. The fit is trim but not overly loose( I got a large with a 41 '' chest, 6', 188 lbs). It has quickly become my go to windbreaker and has replaced my Arc'teryx Squamish hoody. Definitely worth the buy!
5
Intermittent Grouch
This jacket is extremely comfortable. I 'm 5' 6 '' with broad shoulders and a more or less triangular shape( not a body builder by any stretch, though). The medium fits me perfectly with room to layer. I expect it's long enough for taller people, too. It breaths well, provides good wind protection, and a small amount of protection from precipitation. The first time I tried running in this jacket, the hood flopped annoyingly into my field of view. I have since discovered that you can just fold the brim back once or twice to tighten up the fit. This may look a little wonky, but it works beautifully, and it's the only option, since there's no drawstring adjustment on the hood. It's very nice to have hand- warmer pockets, which many wind shells omit.

This jacket is a light, packable, and comfortable. Perfect for warm weather adventures that just need a little extra layer to block the wind. It packs down into a small pouch that can be tossed in your pack or beach bag for that `` ace in the hole '' when needed. Unlike many competing brands, this jacket is made of a very soft material and does not have the crinkle feeling like you are putting on a trash bag. Also unique to this jacket compared to it's competitor's is that it has front handwarmer pockets as well as a chest pocket( most packable options do not). The pockets in my opinion bring it from just being a quick grab backup plan to an intentionally worn and functional jacket. The chest pocket is a great spot to quickly store your cell phone and the front hand pockets give you that sensation like you just put on your favorite hoodie sweatshirt. I have worn it while hiking mountains during the summer in Maine to hanging out on the beach in Costa Rica on a windy day.

I 'm so happy with this windbreaker! It's super lightweight but really does cut down on the wind. The fit is very flattering. And more importantly, it has hand pockets! That may not seem like a big deal, but I 've been disappointed with numerous other lightweight windbreakers on the market that do n't have hand pockets. The pockets are zippered too. This will be a versatile jacket to throw in my bag for spring, summer, and fall. I can see myself using it for hiking, biking, and around town.

As always OR makes the best gear. The fit is awesome and looks great. Be aware it is a very light jacket, lighter than I was expecting. But a perfect running jacket, or for a thin layer on a hike
5
ItsJ253
This ultra light weight jacket does it all! I use it for early morning summer/fall commutes, runs, field work, and sun protection even in hot weather. Surprisingly warm and wind resistant for the super thin fabric, almost paper weight, yet breathable. The easiest layer to throw in a purse or bag. I had doubts when I received it but it ’s exceeded any expectations. Two thumbs up!

Was looking for a high- visibility running jacket similar to the Patagonia Houdini Air( wind resistance+ breathability). I have both the regular Houdini( size L) and Houdini Air( M). Keeping this in M. FIT: I 'm 5' 1, 150 lbs, 34DD, round belly. With a Smartwool 250 baselayer or a thin long- sleeved cotton t, fit is close to the body, but not tight( Houdinis run much slimmer); pretty forgiving of my belly:) Perfect length for me, falling around mid- hip; Houdinis are longer, falling below my butt. FEEL/FUNCTION: I 've worn this for multiple runs( incl. light rain, strong wind). This feels somewhere in- between the Houdinis in terms of wind- blocking and breathability. V. light rain beaded on the surface of the jacket, but left a mark when smushed into the fabric. Material is a matte, slightly stretchy, more fabric- y( vs. plastic- y) material- like a slightly thicker/heavier Air. Hood fits over thick pony- tail securely when fully zipped, and stays in strong wind. Doubles as a running and casual jacket better than the Houdinis due to a more forgiving fit around the mid- section( for looser- fitting street clothes), shorter length( more flattering for my short stature), and zippered side pockets. Packs down small enough for an upcoming 2. 5 week trip to Europe( 24L bag). COLOR: Azalea appears neon coral in the pictures, which is what originally attracted me. Unfortunately, it actually is not neon at all, and is more like a salmon pink that leans more pink than orange. It is slightly see- through. LOVE the green( Grove) colorway- something about the color+ matte fabric texture+ matching zippers makes it look SO smooth and rich and clean. Did not intend to get this color, but decided to try( and keep!) it based on the( accurate) pictures.

[ I 've been a fan of Showers Pass rain gear for a long time, and this jacket is just my most recent edition. Very thoughtfully designed with MTB in mind. The vents keep you cool when working hard. The detachable hood is a great option, once you figure out where to stash it so it does n't get lost. The sleeves cinch up just right so you can regulate air flow or totally lock it out. The reinforced shoulders are great for those long days out on the mountain. I 'd read in one review that it is n't packable, but I 've been able to fit my medium into a fanny pack no problem. Last, the attached microfiber cloth for lens cleaning is super useful. My chest size suggested a small would work, and it did fit my chest, but my arm length needed the medium. The jacket fits trim and is not too baggy.

[ Employee of mountainhardwear] I have been using multiple Kor products for a while and added this one to my closet recently. It has many uses but what I use it for is early morning hikes and rides. It adds just enough warmth over a base layer to reduce the bite of morning chill. The fabric is crazy stretchy and soft, and while I have n't been rough on this one, my insulated Kor Strata is a ski layer I have hammered all season with no issue. This thing is crazy packable too so it makes it easy to shove into a pocket or my lumbar pack.

Perfect ascent shell to dump heat while breaking wind. I wear this over a 250gram smartwool baselayer while ascending mountains in 25- 45 degree weather.

There's a reason you see so many really favorable reviews of this jacket. It checks all the boxes. Packable, super light, blocks the wind, repels mist or light rain and looks great. Pull it out of your kit at a windy summit or the top of a pitch. If you are slim and athletic, it fits true to your usual size. I have a paunchy `` dad bod '', so I had to go up one size for midriff room. You wo n't have to, though. I also have the lined hoody version of this garment, and like it equally for belaying or just spectating at the base of the crag.

The good is that this is the lightest shell I 've ever put on- it's as light as a feather. But, I still do n't understand why MHW wo n't put in cinch waist cords anymore? It's not so great to have air come up thru the bottom with no way to tighten up. Additionally, the no wrist cuff is bizarre. Fernglow is a nice electric yellow color and the sizing is just right this time.

The Hood stow works well when you plan to use it, but I did find myself just tucking the hood inside if I was in a rush and could n't be bothered to roll it

OR Employee Sam - Customer Service
I 've been using this for a couple months now and really like it! I 've found it cuts ~75- 80% of felt wind and even as a softshell shrugs occasional rain pretty well. Mine wet out after about 25 minutes in light/medium rain and when soaked was n't transferring much water to my baselayer. Perfect when you really should 've brought a Helium Rain but you did n't. While not quite breathable enough for me when running unless its real cold( I 'm a warm person) it's great for everything less aerobic than that for me. The cuffs are elastic on the inside of your wrist which works well with a watch. The single hood cinch works well to keep your hood on while minimizing adjustments. Pocket linings double as vents, are big enough for a smartphone or light gloves, and are not sewn down at the top allowing you to stash your map or mail in a pinch. The Hood stow works well when you plan to use it, but I did find myself just tucking the hood inside if I was in a rush and could n't be bothered to roll it up. The hem cinch is located on the right side and is easy to adjust one handed and has low profile hardware which is fine under a backpack belt. I 'm 5'11/ 210#/ 43 '' chest and wear a Men's Large size tshirt and find the size large fits me perfectly with a trim fit. Key for me with fit is that in my other OR jackets like the Foray and Superstrand I 've needed to size up to XL to have the hem fit over my butt. Not so with the Ferrosi- the stretchiness of the fabric and cut works perfectly for me. I normally wear an echo or vigor top underneath mine and layer any insulation over. If I wanted to put insulation under the Ferrosi I would need to size up once. The jacket is lighter, and more flattering than my other windshell from another company. Combined with the comfiness of the stretch I 've found myself grabbing it when just going out running errands and it's almost always at the top of my pack heading out into the woods now.

Perfect softshell! I have been using it for daily commute, rock climbing and everything in between. It breaths nicely and cuts the wind just enough to protect you from the element. I really enjoy this material and the stretch it gives. Tons of uses: gym, walkabout town, Florida in November, shell over down, New Mexico summer nights or August winds, and early morning range days. [ Being a busy parent chasing a one year old. It is hard to find time to exercise during the day. I can rarely find time to go for a run until night time and the temperature has been dropping significantly at night time. That is where this jacket has come in. It has been a perfect run jacket for the night time temperatures. It has kept me from being too hot or too cold. It also has great reflective material for nighttime runs. Which helps me feel safe when running. Aside from running we have a vacation planned next month and I plan on bringing this jacket as the ability to convert from a jacket during the cold mornings to a vest as it warms up will be helpful for packing light.

[ What an absolute gem of a running jacket! I live in northern New England where the weather can quickly change from hot to cold, rain to snow, and everything in between. Dressing for my run can be challenging and it changes every day. Lucky, this Run Visible Convertible Jacket is always in the mix. The quality is what I love the most. It ’s very thin and breathable yet the fabric is very strong. It won ’ t tear easily and it ’s sewn tightly in all the right places. The zipper is durable and doesn ’ t snag the fabric when zipping. This jacket can take some wear and tear from both me and Mother Nature and still hold up perfectly. The reflective material in the arms, wrist and other appropriate places gives me peace of mind. I tend to run in the evening when it starts to get dark. I feel comfortable that I ’ m visible to others without having to wear extra clothing or reflective bands. You also have the option to convert it to a jacket, vest, t- shirt, and tank top style. This comes in handy when running in variety of conditions like I do. Converting it to the different styles is a bit challenging at first but after you get the hang of it, you can do it quickly. You also have the option of the hood if need be. I ’ ve run in misty, windy, hot, and cool weather. I can honestly say that this handles any condition. It repels rain, blocks wind and works well in warm or cool conditions. Having only this jacket to tackle all these conditions is very nice. Overall, this is a well designed runners jacket. It ’s well made and engineered with the runner in mind. I ’ ve very happy with it and have also received many compliments on it. I ’ d highly recommend to others looking for a versatile jacket that will last a while.

[ This jacket does run slightly small in my opinion. I personally like my running clothes snug so I felt a medium, which is my usual size, was a good fit for me. If you prefer your clothes on the loose end I would size up. While I haven ’ t needed to convert this jacket to a vest yet, it is super easy to do and am looking forward to using this feature. So far I ’ ve only ran a few early mornings as the sun is rising in this jacket but I am truly amazed with the reflected material that spans across it. It gives me peace of mind in terms of my safety while running. It ’s perfect for early mornings or evenings because the jacket is extremely lightweight but keeps the breeze and rain away. I was most impressed with how breathable this jacket is. I am a big fan of the way this jacket looks. Clean lines, nice color blocked style, very chic with minimal effort. Just because you are running or training doesn ’ t mean you have to look frumpy!

[ My biggest issue running is finding something that works, is lightweight enough, and isn ’ t smacking my body while running or walking. This jacket is perfect for breezy days, slightly cooler runs, and night time exercise. It fits true to size and doesn ’ t agitate my skin or flap against me. When I work up a sweat and need to shed a layer I don ’ t have to awkwardly hold it or tie it around me, I just flip it inside out and pack it into the pocket and* boom* a vest. It is very easy to concert to a vest and back& even when it is in vest form it isn ’ t heavy or flopping around on my back. Could easily put a water vest over it or under it as well if needed. It kept my skin from getting wind burned and helped me maintain some warmth on cooler runs. No chafing either- the fabric is phenomenal! I often walk with my kids in the evening and with it getting darker earlier I love the reflective aspect of this jacket for this every day use as well. Highly recommend for day time, night time, short, and long runs.
5
Holly
[ This convertible jacket is so cool! It only took me less than a minute to figure how to convert it to a vest and back, which was the only thing I was worried about. This could easily be done while jogging or at a short break, then back to a jacket in a snap. The visibility on this jacket is top notch. Highly reflective and easily seen is one of my major concerns while the fall is here and daylight runs out quickly. Living in the Midwest, we ’ ve got a moments notice before the wind comes( and leaves) and it was handy to be able to have this jacket on me. So light on my back, then keeps me warm as a jacket.

I am so happy I got this coat for the torrential rains that are happening in California right now. I usually wear a medium... sized up to a large and I am glad I did. The sleeves are long enough to hide my cold hands and I 'm able to wear layers underneath for warmth. It still looks good. My L covers my butt( 5' 6 '', 34DD, short arms, 145 lbs.) Love the visor to shield my glasses. This will be comfy to wear in summer storms, too... the pit zips are handy, 2 outside large zippered pockets. The coat is not heavy but it is substantial.

I purchased this jacket specifically to use as a top- layer wet weather shell. I ordered an XXL so it would fit over many warmer layers of clothing. It works perfectly! This jacket handled the pouring rain, snow, and heavy cold winds like a champ on the North Platte in Wyoming. It's tough enough to push through the willows and brush along the river without any problems. It has two very large front pockets that hold my streamer boxes and has two hand pockets as well. The drawstrings are great for sealing up the jacket. I have used my G3 guide jacket for years. The Freestone jacket does n't have the advanced features of the G3. However, the Freestone is fantastic as an over shell and will keep you dry and stops the wind. I use this jacket off the water as well. I wish there was a way to store the hood.

I love this jacket. I looks great and has more room than the typical OR jacket. I am 6 ft and ordered the large and I have room for some layers under the coat which was not typical of my other OR jackets.

Great jacket and hoodie. Inside pockets are good for gloves. Hoodie has room for a beanie, but does n't snug down. I live and work in Front Range Colorado, this fits the bill from Nov- Apr

It is quite warm does a great job; I generally wear a L but went for the Medium here based on the recommendation that this would be slightly bigger than a regular sized one and I did n't plan on having multiple layers under it. If layering under it, then go for the regular size. It is heavier than my L Arcteryx Cerium LT, which will be my go to for packing and traveling. But overall, very pleased with what this does.

I have only had this coat for a few weeks but I have used it in sub zero temperatures, snow and rain. It kept me warm and dry. This jacket is much roomier than your typical hoody jacket from other brands. I can easily wear sweatshirts and other layers underneath if needed. We shall see how it holds up but so far it has been great.

The interior fabric is amazingly soft, and the hood, when down and zipped to the chin, feels sooo good around the neck! ... Very warm by itself and great for

I used this jacket for everything. Its great on its own or under a shell. The synthetic insulation is great for fishing and skiing the the Pacific North West. While the pockets do n't have zippers i 'm really digging the relaxed fit.

[ I dig this jacket. I chose it over similar ones from Patagonia and Arcteryx because it does n't scream ALPINE, BRO! quite like those designs. The shell has a matte finish and the blue color I got is a classic dark navy. It's cut somewhat slim and a size large is a good fit for my 6' 3 '', broad shoulder self. It just got foggy, rainy, and cool here in coastal New England and this is a perfect jacket for the weather.

The jacket arrived today. It's extremely soft and lightweight. Construction looks nice and it's sharp looking. I 'm pretty thin and this jacket is not bulky or loose fitting so I 'm pretty happy. 5'11 and 170 lbs and I got Medium. Fits really well. I usually wear a large, so thanks to the other reviewers for helping to guide me to a medium.

[ Great find. Fits perfect and can still layer and not feel stuffy. Dual zipper is a great touch. Only thing it needs is zippers On the front pockets.

[ I 'm 5' 7 '' and about 170lbs. I bought a large to put multiple layers under for alpine use and the size was just about right. A little snug down around the hip area, but okay. I liked the jacket so much that I decided to buy a medium for `` around the town '' use, but the medium was so tight at the hips that it would n't drop all the way down. Had to return it. Fits much tighter than the Interstellar. Otherwise, great shell.

[ Fantastic durability, great jacket. Used for tower climbers in the worst of weather. Seriously bomber and something anyone would be stoked to wear in the worst conditions.

[ Unlike most of the rain jackets I tried on this cycle, OR has the cut right on this, I am 6' 185, so I really should n't be swimming in a L, but most I did, not OR.. Perfect. Thickness suggests it will last.

[ Fit is superb. Comfort and breathability is awesome. Never a drop of water incursion. However: on the coldest of days, the gustiest winds sneak through. Fabric has seen some ski tumbles with no hint of damage. I think of this as my soft hardshell. So I wouldn ’ t describe it as “ bombproof ”, but it ’s a go- to for anything short of truly severe weather.

[ Warm and kept the water off of me during those wet and rainy days. ... It ’s super cute but a bit oversized. ... Bought for a lightweight rain jacket and it lives up to

[ This jacket is really comfortable. It's a great jacket when it's a little cool outside. My only con is that the sleeves are short on me and also the elastic is tight around the wrist. If I want to put my sleeves up it makes a mark on my arms and it's too tight, but I do love the Jacket. I got the printed one in Beta Blue which is not on this website yet, but I love the color.* The jacket seems to run big. I felt like I was in- between sizes. I did end up going down a size because my regular size had too much extra material/jacket in the front.
