Take Your Swing: Fastpitch Softball Bats

Pick up a high-quality softball bat designed for your fastpitch game.

Choose an industry-leading fastpitch softball bat from brands like DeMarini®, Louisville Slugger®, Easton® and more. Explore the whole collection:

Aluminum fastpitch softball bats are built from an aluminum or aluminum alloy with either a single or double-walled construction. These bats are exceptionally durable, making them a great option if you're rough on your equipment.

Composite fastpitch bats are made from a variety of innovative materials, like graphite, carbon fiber or an aluminum core with a graphite lining. These bats often include layers of material for greater flex and trampoline effect at impact.

Your fastpitch softball bat should match your strength and hitting style.

Stronger players tend to use a heavier bat that delivers maximum hitting power. Smaller players should consider a lighter bat that will help them increase swing speed while maintaining control.

Most fastpitch bats are between 26 and 34 inches in length, with a 2 and ¼-inch diameter and -8 through -12 drop. The drop figure denotes the bat's length to width ratio. General guidelines for bat length is:

  • 5 to 10-year-olds: 24 to 29 inches in length
  • 10 to 16-year-olds: 28 to 33 inches in length
  • 17-year-olds and older: 34 inches in length

Keep in mind: Aluminum bats are known for their balanced weight and consistent performance. Composite bats tend to be "softer" with better flex when struck by the ball. This trampoline effect can result in better distance. Composite bats also dampen vibration and sting, but do require a break-in period before use in a game setting.

Whether you play in ASA, USSSA, NSA or another softball organization, consult your league requirements before selecting your bat.

Keep in mind these factors when selecting your fastpitch softball bat:

  • If vibration or sting is an issue, look for specialized grips.
  • Lighter bats provide better swing control.
  • Bat taper is the diameter of your bat's handle. Some players seek out a bat with a narrower taper. This decreases a bat's weight and allows wrists to rotate during swing.
  • The longer the barrel, the larger the sweet spot. A smaller barrel, however, results in a lighter weight bat.
